What the doc has done is correct. Swelling is expected and will subside. You need to differentiate between the pain which was initially present usually on the sides of ankle at the time of injury and pain due to stiffness because your ankle was immobilized for 1 month. If I think you are suffering from ankylosing spondylitis. you can try indomethacin if you haven't. Nowadays tnf alpha inhibitors are also given for the same. Exercise is a must in these diseases.

Avoid smoking altogether. It may be causing your hip pain in the first place. Taking indomethacin in smoker has increased chances of gastric bleeding.
