This is for My father of Age 75 ,weight 43 kg and height 177 cm. He is under treatment for dementia related issues as described below. We are consulting with Neurologist and he was taking the tablet Donep of 10 mg for the last one year. Now he added one more medicine since there is no improvement and stills showing more angry and aggressive behavior. The medicine name is QUETIAPINE 25 mg. One tablet night after food When am browsing in internet it is not approved to older people with dementia related issues. It may cause serious issues. Is that correct? Or shall we continue with the medicine? New prescriptions cilacar 10 morning one Telma h 40 morning one Donamem 10 night one quetiapine 25 night one Atorfit cv 10 night one 1) He is having serious memory issue 2) He is not getting words while talking 3) He is able to read, write, Identify all the friends but always angry with everyone most of the time 4) some day he is very silent and normal 5) Most of the time he is getting he want to go from home, no answer where he want go, but someday he used to go to some of his friends home. Some days to temples. May be frequently 6) Some days he will bath/ brush two or three times. If we are reminding this he will get angry and will try to go out of home As per Neurologist it is because of one silent brain attack and dementia He is a retired Mathematics teacher, and this symptoms started some 4 year back. Now some days he is very violent because of the above reason Waiting for your feedback.

Sorry to hear your father, Maths teacher, has dementia.
The behavioral problems are not tolerated by the family members. If you start attending the family members' group, you will understand why your father gets angry and leaves home. If the family understands his present level of memory and accepts it as such, behaviour of your father will change. If you people point out accusingly or treat him as though he does it purposely, it will worsen.

Hi Sir, My dad is suffering from hallucinations, screaming, dementia, so the doctor prescribed ativan and sizodon plus, he recovered from this for upto 8 months but again he has started to get hallucination so doctor again prescribed quel 25 and aricep. So my doubt is can he able to remain as a normal person for ever? Or it will occur again.

Thanks Latest treatment of dementia a fter complete blood check n memory check. Treatment with donepezil n cerebroprotein hydrlysate n piracetam. Has given good results up to the complete recovery in some cases. If required Latest therapy called RTMS therapy can be given - daily sitting - for 30 minutes on dental chair. My dad (52) is experiencing slight memory loss so we saw a neurologist. After checkup he said he thinks it's due to anxiety and doesn't suspect dementia. He prescribed elm 0.25 and donep5. Follow up after 30 days. Elm is for anxiety but donep is for dementia. I don't understand why he has given medicine on dementia when he clearly said that he doesn't suspect dementia.

Donepezil is helpful in mild cognitive impairment (MCI). It is not dementia. So your doctor might have prescribed it.

My 83 years old mother has been diagnosed of Alzheimer's disease and with the first dose of allopathic medicine - DONEP- she ended up being admitted in the hospital in emergency for extreme weakness and nausea. Now she refuses to take that medicine. About a month back I started giving her homeopathic - BARYTA CARB 200 thrice a day 5 balls but do not see any improvement in her. I have heard that Ayurveda has good treatment for alzheimer, request you to please advise. When the memory test was done by the psychiatrist, my mother scored 20/30. She has no other health problems.

Your mother was diagnosed as Alzheimer's. Since her score is 20/30 (probably on MMSE), it must be mild dementia.
It is unfortunate that she is unable to tolerate Donep (Donepezil). i hope it is a 5 mg tablet to start with.
Since she does not have any other health problem, her life expectancy must be - many more years.

Yes. Nausea and vomiting can be side effects of cholinesterase inhibitors and donepezil (donetaz) is one of the cholinesterase inhibitors. It would be advisable to start at a lower dose which is available as Donepezil 5 mg tablet. There are other alternatives too. Please discuss with your doctor who prescribed it or you contact me for further advise.
