Need to discuss more personally. Alcoholism in addiction is a disease stage and need good will power and counselling and motivation to withdraw. Tell me privately your family life and all details and whether he has any disease and whether he is willing to stop. Disulfiram will only make drinking an unpleasant experience and create aversion to drinking, but can cause adverse reactions you consult me privately for a personalised advice.

Dear lybrate-user,
disulfiram can not be given to rajesh unless he is willing to take it. He needs to sign a consent form of psychiatrist who educated him on disulfiram - alcohol reaction that can be fatal at times. Rajesh needs to carry a card with him always about his disulfiram intake. It will save his life in case he takes alcohol.

Dear Pam,
I hope Dixone is Disulfiram tablet. Disulfiram and alcohol interaction gives unpleasant feeling and morbid fear. That is why your uncle is not drinking since he is not getting any good feeling with alcohol.
If you stop Disulfiram, he will start enjoying alcohol and become dependent within few days by increasing the alcohol intake. So DO NOT STOP Disulfiram unless you want him to drink on an occasion.
Disulfiram needs to be stopped 10 days earlier to make him enjoy alcohol.

Hello,
No, Esperal contains Disulfiram. Alcohol disulfiram reaction had caused death even at dose as low as 30 ml of alcohol. Alcohol is not at all safe on disulfiram and should be avoided for at least 2 weeks after disulfiram use. Remember craving for alcohol is hardly for 30 minutes and if you can overcome that 30 minute by drinking water or diverting your mind in some other work you will be able to control craving. Take Care.

If you are having disulfiram and drinking after that, you will suffer from vomiting and tiredness. If you aren't drinking, you might need some other medications for the symptoms.

There are no interactions between the two, you can use them. But consult a psychiatrist before taking prodep as the antidepressants are tailored to the symptoms. All the best.

Dear lybrate-user,

To de addict him there are other treatments like motivational enhancement therapy, anti craving tablets and treatment of withdrawal symptoms. Please consult a doctor nearby, preferably a psychiatrist. She/he will plan an appropriate treatment. Your father may need treatment for other medical and psychiatric illnesses also along w...more

The most common side effect of disulfiram includes drowsiness and fatigue. Many patients experience metallic or garlic-like aftertaste, but most patients develop tolerance to this effect. In addition, disulfiram is also associated with impotence. This is most common in doses of 500 mg daily. Disulfiram can also cause blurred vision, skin discoloration, inflammation of the skin, increased heart rate, and mental changes. During the first three months of therapy, patients should have their liver fu...more
