Dear Amit,
Single episode of depression without any family history of mood disorder is diagnosed differently from multiple episodes with mild elation or over confidence at times with family history of mood disorders. For the first one only nexito and mirtaz will work. For the second one a mood stabiliser like Divaa 500 needs to be given. Your doctor knows to diagnose the different types of depression. She/he knows the effect and the side effects of each drug. Please follow whatever is advi...more

I assume that he has been seen by a Psychiatrist considering the medication he is on. If he did not have anger issues before starting medication then please meet the consultant immediately. However if he had anger issues even before starting these medicines, give some time for the medicines to start their action (usually a week or two).

It seems with the above set of medications your depression is not under control, kindly discuss other options and medications with your psychiatrist. Some newer ones have come. If not possible get a second opinion and follow for 3 months and see of it is any better. Good luck.

Judging by the medicines you mentioned, you might had bipolar disorder. After 2 months of stopping medication, no 'withdrawal' would be there. But, there is risk of recurrence of bipolar disorder, that is - depression, mania, or hypomania.

Hi lybrate-user
I can imagine how distressing and difficult this may be for you and your family. It may be in your best interest to continue the medication prescribed by your doctor. Additionally, you could take him for therapy to a licensed therapist who has substantial experience with adolescents in your city. It may be helpful for him to address his thoughts and feelings in a safe space and learn to challenge dysfunctional thoughts that trigger his symptoms and work on healthier behaviour...more

Permanent cure is dependent on your seeking the help of a counselor too and cooperating with both therapies. This is a serious condition and medication can stabilise the chemical imbalance in the long run. In counseling you will be put on a program that will include exercise, proper diet, good sleep and how to handle emotions, particularly fear and anger. Dear sekhar,
what are your current dosages of psychotropics and the clear indication of each? What are your current active symptoms, though it is understandable that you have bipolar disorder but what type, I don’t know yet.
As being a pharmacist yourself, I am expecting you to have this information about yourself.
You can mail me at email to discuss these issues in detail, as it will be tricky to titrate multiple medications.
Take care.
