Hello, Thanks for the query.
SInce both preparations contain Gliclazide, there is no difference. XL means sustained release, the molecule is released over a few hours, so that consistent amount of drug is available. Thanks.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
The drugs prescribed for yor father Gliclazide and Voglibose are well known and safe drugs. There are hardly any side effects. Persons with diabetes take these drugs for years together. Both are very well tolerated compounds. Therefore, if his diabetes is well controlled, then he should continue the same. In a well controlled diabetes Fasting Glucose should be < 100 mg, Pp 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. Thanks.

Hi,
Diabetes is a disease which can be controlled with medication, diet and exercise and cannot be cured. Therefore, you cannot stop the medication when your blood sugar levels come back to normalcy. Raised Blood sugar level in the body is controlled by the medications. If you stop the medicines, again the blood sugar level rises. Hence a maintainence dose of the medicine has to be taken for life long.

Both above mentioned tablets can be taken together (not at the same time) for controlling blood glucose, if prescribed by the doctor. Thanks.

Once you achieve a stable blood glucose level, you need to keep taking the medications. Discontinuing diabetes medications will increase blood glucose levels and damage kidneys and nerves at a faster pace. No amount of dietary restriction and/or exercise is sufficient to keep blood glucose level at a stable rate without medication.
