My son who is 20 years old and pursuing Engineering, has been under treatment of Tegrital (carbamazepine) from the age of 3. He had simple partial focal seizures which were controlled by Tegrital. However, whenever tapering was advised after event free period of 3 years, seizures recurred. In last 17 years there have only been 3 or 4 instances of recurrence of seizures. Last he had was in early 2015. My son now plans to pursue his masters in USA. Would it be possible to pursue studies in US with the above pre existing conditions. Secondly, what is the probability of discontinuing Tegrital with no recurrence of seizure.

Epilepsy is not a barrier in success. He can do easily whatever you want whenever he wants to study. Considering that there are multiple failures of stopping medicine ; its better to continue this medicine for many years. It is not a major issue to continue such kind of medicine for many years.

Hi there, I am 24 years old, I have headaches similar to cluster and migraines already 8 years, but in the past 3,4 years I have them every single day. From 15 min till 3h and sometimes couple times a day. Last year I had a surgery, nose septum but it didn't help. This year I have done all the tests, blood image is perfect, thyroid is perfect, mri was good except the diagnosis of all 3 sinuses infection and without liquid in them, but it was determined by the neurologist and orl doctor that I have "chronic complicated migraines" after the treatment with carbamazepine and vitamins, the headaches were still there, nothing has changed. So I did couple days ago the angiography and it was determined that everything normal except sinusitis of all 3 sinuses and "hypoplasia left transverse sinus venous" is this hypoplasia dangerous, how can I cure this? Thank you in advance.

Dear lybrate-user, how is it possible to have cluster headache, and migraine in a patient. Hypoplasia left transverse venous sinus is not dangerous.

Hello, when my sister was few days old, she suffered from stroke (probably from aneurysm and i'm not sure if this is considered cerebral palsy). She developed weakness in one side of her body but she was able to live a relatively functional life until the age of 19 years, when she started developing epileptic attacks. The attacks are mostly myoclonic with occasional generalized stiffness in her body and sometimes they precipitate falls. The doctor put her on carbamazepine which has marginally controlled her attacks. My question is: are medications the only available option for this condition? I've heard that epilepsy that results from fixed brain lesions are poorly controlled by medications, will surgical evacuation of the dead brain area help controlling the condition better than medications? And if so, I would also like to know if these types of surgeries are well established or just experimental. Thank you for being interested.

Good evening, I am diagnosed with bipolar mood disorder after a traumatic brain injury in 2008: impairment in frontal lobe/executive dysfunction, t2 wi am using the above for my brain injury, white matter hyperintensity suggestive of a focal area of demyelination, central nervousness system damage -multiple sclerosis (ms), memory/ concentration, depression and agitation, sleep, epilepsy I had subsequently suffered kidney failure in 2017 and was in a coma for 2 weeks. I am currently on the following medication: I am using the meds below for my brain injury: topamax 200 mg x2 odiven 75 mg x3 yelate 60 mg x2 at night zyprexa 10 mg at night diabetic medications: actraphane hm (ge) 24 units in the morning 22 units at night indo metformin (glucophase) 1000 mg x2 in february 2019 I woke up with the most excruciating pain in my jaw, next to my nose, cheek and lower face area. This intense, stabbing, electric shock-like pain will last for several seconds every 2 to 5 minutes. At the hospital the Dr. said I had a stroke but my brain scan showed that the stroke happened a while back. The neuro specialist diagnosed me with trigeminal neuralgia and is treating me with carbamazepine 400g x2 per day. The side effects are killing me. I have lost 21 kg since feb. I am 52 years old, 1.73 tall and weight 65 kg. I have continuous diarrhea. Can't keep any food in and have abdominal pain. Every time I weigh myself I have lost another kg. Am I busy getting anorexia? Is there any way to manage this? I am short of breath, dizzy and fainting. I am exhausted have no energy my body is tired. Which vitamins can I take to boost my system? Is there any medicine or supplement that is on the market that will make me feel better? The psychiatrist said they can't change the medication (carbamazepine) because of the medication that i'm currently using. Could you please advice.

Dear ,
are you still on topamac? Now that you are on carbamazepine (helpful for neuralgia and brain injury), you may not need topamac (for brain injury). Request your doctor whether you can reduce and stop it. Topamac reduces weight. Stopping it may help you to some extent. At this age weight reduction is good for your diabetes and other health conditions. With 65 kg, you are still not underweight.

No need to take any sex pill. Do foreplay for long time and during penetration of penis, keep your feet above bed that in the air to avoid contraction of pelvic muscles which can hinder penetration.

If you are eating well, there isn't actually any need for vitamin supplements.
All you need throughout pregnancy is Folic acid, Iron, Calcium and Protein supplements, nothing more.
Keep urself well hydrated, proper eating, sleeping and bowel bladder habits.
All will be well.

You need to do urine pregnancy test. It should be done 10 days after missing your period. For example if your date was 10th, then do the test on 20th. Before that it can give false negative or false positive test.

Asked for female, 21 years old from Delhi

I am 21 years old female under treatment for nausea ,vomiting, diarrhea from last 2 weeks. The prescribed medicine are metronidazole 400 mg 3 times, ciprofloxacin 500 mg 2 times, ranitidine 150 mg 2 times and Racecadotril (for 3 days 3 times a day), Ondansetron (3 times for 7 days). Now I am better with vomiting and diarrhea but I feel lot of gas inside my stomach unable to pass gas, only burps and sometime hiccups and I feel nausea/vomiting at night. My CBC, LFT ,KFT, Ultrasound test are normal. Ps - I have previous medical history, I am under treatment for my depression from the last 2 years. I am taking carbamazepine 200 mg two times a day and clonazepam 0.25 mg two times a day. Please tell me how much time it will take to recover. I am feeling very low just because of my nausea/ vomiting.

I have been binging on alcohol since the past 30 years. The binges last for a week up to 20 days and used to occur about 4 times a year. I brought this down to once a year. But, since the last year, I have taken up drinking 3 rounds (120 ml) daily before dinner. I have decided to quit. But like in the past, I do not want detox at a hospital or a spell at a rehab, which, I have realized are just money-making treatments that do not treat. I want to gradually taper the alcohol in-take. Next week, and I am going to come down to 90 ml a day. My problem is AWS - Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome - that manifests in the form of seizures. I am on Benzodiazepine and carbamazepine. I feel afraid all the time of the day of a impending seizure. Also, a good diet because right now, there is no appetite. Can you recommend any medication that would help me achieve my goal - a alcohol-free life? I don't want a hospital or rehab. I want to give up this habit on my own by tapering off my intake. Thank you.
