Dear Harshit,
It looks as though Kavita was given tablets for manic episode at present. There is no mood stabilizer in the list you have given.
For 20 years, what are the medicines she was taking that kept her fine for many years. Lithium carbonate, divalproex or carbamazepine? At what dose and what blood level (lithium and divalproex).
Probably the same drug, if it does not cause disturbance in her diabetes treatment, will be prescribed to her after controlling the present manic epi...more

Dear Arti,
At the outset, i will tell you about quality of life years. WHO mentions for this millennium, it is not death rate, but quality of life years that matters as outcome of treatment. Please think about 50 years of life with active interest or 100 years of cursing life daily.
Both depakote and risperidone don't reduce your life span by themselves. They are NOT poisons - not even slow poison like cigarettes or sedentary life. Both of them cause weight gain that in turn causes sug...more

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Typically, treatment entails a combination of at least one mood-stabilizing drug and/or atypical antipsychotic, plus psychotherapy. The most widely used drugs for the treatment of bipolar disorder include lithium carbonate and valproic acid (also known as depakote). I am sure, natural remedies usually do not work. But cognitive behavior therapy, relaxation therapy, life style changes etc do work. Please do not worry. I suggest online cbt and other therapies. ...more

Dear lybrate-user,
if you are suffering from bipolar disorder, you need effective mood stabiliser like lithium carbonate, divalproex or carbamazepine. Eritric dose need to be adjusted according to the effect you need. Probably you may not need oratric. It becomes ineffective in course of time. You may not become angry and violent often, if proper dose of mood stabiliser is taken.

Hi there ~
you are probably suffering from bipolar disorder with frequent manic episodes.
Although some people may have only one episode, bipolar disorder is a lifelong condition that usually involves recurrent episodes. It's usually marked by episodes of mania or hypomania (low-grade highs) -- elevated mood and excessive energy and activity -- and depression, often with long periods of normalcy in between the mood swings.
