Hi,
consumption of sugar depends upon the values of blood sugar a person if having. If your mother has slightly increased blood sugar then she can have little bit of normal sugar intake, but if she is suffering from high blood sugar then need to cut down sugar intake totally.
You can consult a nutritionist for that.

Approximately 4-6 gms of sodium is sufficient for your daily needs. This equals about 2 tsps of common salt. 2-3 tsps of sugar can suffice daily, however this should include any sweets, dessert, and your tea, coffee etc. Try to avoid free sugar intake.... instead have dried fruits & fresh fruits.

Kindly eat your meals on time and in appropriate quantities. Salad and juices also help in enhancing metabolism.
Walk daily, drink lots of water, be stress free.
Fruits have a natural sweetener in them that can be improvised in making dessert....more
