Hello doctor this is goutam, I am 29 years, bp 115/75, I have some anxiety, mania and dizziness problem from childhood, so 4 years ago a neurologist suggest me some blood check up and brain mri, blood report ok but in mri there is some small spot in left basal ganglia, on that time my anxiety and depression level was high. So he suggested me clopitab75 for 3 month, betacap tr 40 (propranolol) and zaptra 12.5 (paroxetine+ clonazepam), after 3 month stopped clopitab 75. But for depression continue betacap and zaptra, after 1 year I felt good, depression goes down, but there was some problem like concentration, confusion, memory problem, palpitations, from last 4 year I am taking those medicine, now I take zaptra in alternative days and betacap tr reduce 40 to 20 for last 3 month, how can I get rid off from those medicine? I don't want to get addicted, and I don't know is there any major side effects effect on brian and heart the main tension is that. Please try to help me doctor. Thank you.

I don't know what are the circumstances under which you are taking medicines, I want to know the whole details about your disorder. But due to certain reasons if you are on antidepressants you have to take some extra care of yourself. You need counseling session f...more

Has there been further mris done? What has your doctor told you? Additionally are you taking up counseling to manage your behaviour, low concentration, confidence etc? Both line of treatment should run in parallel for overall results. Psychiatric meds do have side effects but they should not be stopped without consultation with your Dr. If you are finding improvements and your Dr. can confirm that then gradually the dosage can be reduced and subsequently stopped. Normally the mainstay of anxiety treatment is medication such as SSRI class of drugs which are highly effective for anxiety. Beta blockers such as betacap, or benzodizepines are only given temporarily to control the physical symptoms of anxiety till the SSRI medicine starts to take effect.

Also dose used for anxiety is usually between 20 to 40. 60mg is not used.

This medication is not for the treatment of anxiety it can only help in palpitations by reducing heart rate. Better you discuss your problem in detail with a psychiatrist so that proper root cause can be identified and accordingly treatment can be suggested. All the best.
