From the details given I understand that you are on gluconorm 4 mg (how many times day?), plus metformin 1000 mg is once plus what is that "under 5 mg tablet? Fasting glucose 200 mg is definitely very high.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for your query.
The drugs mentioned Glimepiride and Voglibose are different in their action.
Metformin is supposed to reduce or delay glucose absorption and hence slows down blood glucose rise after taking food. Plus it also reduces insulin resistance hence helps blood glucose control. There are other beneficial effects like helps slight weight reduction.

Lybrate-user, taking metformin while breast feeding the baby, produces no effects on baby's blood glucose level. A number of clinical studies have reported that metformin taken while breast feeding a baby does not affect the baby adversely at all. So you need not worry about it. Thanks for the question.

It is essential to be vigilant and be aware of the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and not just depend on the medicines. It is the combined effect of your habits and the medicines that play a major role in the control of blood sugar. Therefore always go for regular health check up and follow the advise of the doctor. The motto of treatment is to gain maximum benefit from the medicines (the doctor has to select the medicines based on your individual needs and current health condition) w...more

Hello
Your last test was in normal range pls check intermittently for precautions, if it will within normal then no need of medicines. Just do regular exercise, maintain food timing ,good sleep 8hrs in night, avoid excess sugar in food, then no need of any medicine in future.

Hello, thanks for the query.
Tablet gluconorm 500sr is containing only 500 mg of metformin in sustained release form. Where as the gluconorm pg2 contains glimiperide 2 mg and pioglitazone 15 mg. The second tablet must have been prescribed because the blood glucose levels are not in control. Thanks.
