Mr. Lybrate-user, hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht) is an autoimmune disease, with lymphatic infiltration of thyroid gland. It becomes firm or globular. There are anti bodies produced against thyroid peroxidase enzyme (anti tpo ab) which destroy thyroxine secreting cells resulting in hypothyroidism. Treatment is to give thyroxine tablets.
