There is no" maximum dose" for insulin. In fact, it is one of the very few drugs that does not have a maximum dose. In other words, as long as you don't have hypoglycemia or other complications (eg: severe kidney disease) and your blood sugars are controlled round the clock, insulin is safe at any dose.

Hello, Thanks for the query. In diabetes when required control is not achieved with single drug, multiple drugs are used. In T2 diabetes the beta cell mass is already down to 50 % by the time diagnosis is made. Then if severe hyperglycemia is present then there's further damage to remaining beta cells. In such situations Insulin injections are required along with oral anti- diabetic drugs. Thus the reason for using more drugs is to achieve better glucose control. Thanks.

Hello, Thanks for the query.
It is always advisable to take Insulin before meal. That will help in controlling glucose increase after food. But if it is taken after meal, there will be a considerable amount of glucose rise in the blood. So it will take much longer to control it. Thanks.

What is insulin therapy?
