Mr chaitanya, you are aware that diabetes is condition caused by either lack of insulin or resistance to its action due to excess fat and glucose in the body. So the best drug to treat diabetes is insulin itself. But since injections have to taken patient tend to avoid as far as possible. With insulin pens and newer long acting insulin analogues now a days most patients (particularly t2) can be controlled by a single injection. There are hardly any major side effects, but certain problems do occ...more

Mr Satyabrata, Thanks for the query.
I have seen the details given. The glucose levels mentioned are quite well controlled. However, regarding the change of drugs (adding Tenelegliptin instead of Sitagliptin) may be due to cost. There is no worry about the safety of Tenelegliptin at all. It is quite good. In fact it helps in improvement of liver functions. So no need to worry. Thanks.

Novorapid is a short, rapid acting insulin that is typically given in 3 shots/ day (called Bolus insulins shots), with each major meal. It is more convenient to give this insulin in the hospital, when patients are admitted for infection/ surgery/ procedures/ delivery etc. Eglucent Mix 25 is a premixed insulin that contains two components; 25% of short, rapid acting and 75% of intermediate acting insulins. This needs to be taken only twice daily and hence, more convenient for the out patient.

Mr. Lybrate-user, insulin injections are usually taken with the help of special syringe ment for that. It has very thin needle. The injection has to be taken below the skin, in the subcutaneous layer. (in between skin and muscle). Now a day there are specially designed pens which give correct preset doses, with almost painless prick. The sites also are explained to the patient- like on the abdomen, around the umbilicus, on the lateral (outer) aspect of the thigh and on upper arm. It is always ad...more

Hello lybrate-user, in type 1 diabetes, insulin is the only line of management. Some newer drug are approved by FDA but they are add-on to your insulin and efficacy wise these drugs are not effective as single therapy but insulin can't be substituted.

People, who suffer from diabetes type 1, need insulin injections lifelong. The requirement for insulin therapy in people suffering fr...more
