propranolol or other betablockers group of medicines have minimal side effects compared to other medicines you had been taking
continue with medicines even if bp gets normal because these betablockers reduce the risk of getting heart attack or stroke
second fear, safety for diabetics, these medicines do affect blood sugar levels and lipids too but it's so minimal that your dose of Medicine for diabetes will not be affected.

Tenormin and losakind aren't bad but role of tenormin in controlling High BP is dubious. Metosartan is superior product. It contains Metoprolol and Telmasartan. Janumet is better drug as your age. It won't cause hypoglycemia and it is weight neutral medicine. Si current regimen is quite better.

You need to undergo check up for high bp in young individual.
It is basically to look for any curable things which can cure your blood pressure.
One example is renal artery stenosis that is if blood supply to kidneys are low due to blockage high bp can happen, it is completely curable. Once you start bp tablet very difficult to stop through out your life. So better to check everything and them start.
