Asked for male, 55 years old from Solapur

Dear Doctor, I am taking oral medication to control blood sugar levels for past 9.5 years. At present I take morning and night one tablet each having combination of 500 mg metformin with 40mg Gliclazide. In the afternoon it is Vildagliptin 50mg. With this I have kept my HBA1C under 7.0. Do I still have a choice of medicines before turning on finally to Insulin?

Hi if your sugar levels are in control, then there is no need to change medications or add any for the time being. However, person with t2 diabetes at some point of time in the treatment may have go in for insulin injections. Right now for you this stage is not there.

I am diabetic since 2000 these days I am taking 20 units mixtard 30/70 at the time of breakfast & at time of lunch tab glykind M also on dinner same tab After that my fasting sugar is 200 pp is 250 Please advise me Let me know which is better glimepiride or gliclazide.

Both are from same group ie. Sufonylurea and have similar effect. It is better to increase your insulin dose.

My wife was taking gliclazide 80 ,1 tab in morning, 1/2 tab in evening and her sugar was under control. One day her sugar went down to 44, and her medicine was stopped. Now eve without any medicine, her readings are 103/155. Is there any need of medication?

Looking at the details I suggest you should shift to long acting basal analogue insulin like injection basalog, start with 6 units once a day and increase the dose based on daily blood sugar levels. You will have to do self monitoring of sugar levels. One of the oral medications namely metformin with glimepiride to be continued.

My mom is 90 years old, she is on wheelchair as she had stroke in 2005 after that she became semi paralyzed, she is on medication since, she diabetic 2 and she takes diamicron Mr. 60 mg (gliclazide) 1 daily before breakfast and diovan 160 mg for high blood pressure and takes warfarin 3 mg after lunch the question is my mom is suffering from hallucinations since last year, does that have anything to do with the medication she is taking? Thank you.

Hi Doctor, I am a 53 year old male, insulin dependent diabetic and a hypertensive. To add to this I am having BI polar disorder. Sugar control is average or below. BP under control. Now my medicines Lantus 20 units at Bedtime, Novorapid 10 units before lunch Glycigon 80, two times a day, two tablets each time For BP Olmin 40 LN Bloc 20 pantoprazole with Domstal one time a day As far as Bipolar problem is concerned I am cleared by psychiatrist to take all the above with the medicines he prescribed. I consider this a sensitive matter. I am always in stress because of my Job, I am the GM or second in command of a large turnover construction company. My morning sugar is between 95 tp 110, but post breakfast after 2 hours is 225. After taking my lunch I take novorapid 10 units hence for few hours my sugar drops to normal range. Again in the evening it when Novorapid effect is gone it climbs to 250-275. Remains like that perhaps till I sleep after taking Lantus 20 units, again in the morning it is normal. HB1C today's test shows a reading of 7.0. What should I do to take this reading to 6.0.

35 yrs male. Got candidal infection on penis 8 months back. Treatment done. Doc suspected diabetes. Ignored docs advice. 2 months back again candidiasis. Brought glucometer at home. Fbs 450 mg / dl. Ah! confirmed diabetic. On metform in 500 gliclazide 4 mg twice a day. Hyperglycemia controlled. But persistent pain in the heel of my left foot from about 4-5 months. Can you suggest why it happens? I worry that may be I am diabetic from 1 yr or more with no treatment. Had it any bad effect on my body?

There should be some reason for using any supplement. Cod liver oil is rich source of vit. D,it will add to calory intake also. Before giving cod liver oil get her serum vit D test.

If you sleep during day, avoid it.
