Children often suffer form recurrent respiratory infections. Every time an antibiotic is prescribed. Ima warns not to give antibiotics so frequently. As a result, the infection keeps happening and then the child develops cough as the body tries to take out all the mucous of the precious recurrent infections. I strongly recommend not to give any couch syrup as it will just be a temporary suppression. The cough will return again after the suppressive action of the drug is exhausted.

Most often it's viral infection. Fever usually settles down in 3 to 4 days. Cough takes 7 to 10 days. Continue same treatment. Small children get frequent infections because of low immunity.

Ambroxol is a mucolytic which thins and loosens mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out. Guaifenesin is an expectorant which decreases the stickiness of mucus (phlegm) and helps in its removal from the airways. Terbutaline is a bronchodilator. It works by relaxing the muscles in...more

Nop. You can not give it without knowing the cause of breathlessness. We need to know in detail about your child like age, duration of symptom, past history, allergic history, drug history, chest examination finding etc etc. If you can share in detail, then only some opinion can be given. But breathlessness at this age is a medical emergency which you should not keep lightly without knowing the cause!
