I totally understand that is very hard to deal with medical conditions for a long time and be on medications on a daily basis for physical health problems. On top of those, you may be drained of the possibility of being depressed due to chronic medical conditions, the symptoms of which you have laid out in your description of problems. I also believe that you may need to have medications started for your depression and it is usually a short course of 3-4 months with a subsequent 2-month taper. I...more

Black, Tarry Stools. Bleeding in the upper portion of your digestive system can cause black, tarry stools. Ulcers or another form of irritation in your esophagus or stomach known as gastritis can cause bleeding. When the blood mixes with digestive fluids, it takes on the appearance of tar.

I'm 37 year old male on bp meds since the age of 29, i've been on atenolol 50, nifedipine 10, amlodipine 5, currently on metoprolol succinate xl 50 and cilnidipine 10. I learnt from my personal experiences and also from web literature that beta blockers/calcium channel blockers can cause slow heart rate or bradycardia unlike angiotensin receptor blockers (arb' s) like telmisartan or thiazide diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide or chlorthalidone. Can I switch from beta blockers to arb's with docs advice to negate the effects of beta blockers. What about celiprolol, carvedilol and pindolol? My last bp readings were, 130/90, 140/80 and 130/85 monitored every 7-10 days. I have undergone my lipid profile, kidney function, liver function and thyroid tests a month ago and everything seemed normal. I'm not diabetic and it doesn't run in the family as well. I do have allergic rhinitis from so many years for which I have tried levocetirizine, montelukast and fexofenadine meds as and when required. Also take placida plus for anxiety issues. I'm just asking this out of curiosity.

You should know that not any beta blocker can be started as there is scientific evidence behind which one to start in a particular patient and this information sadly your go...more

Calcium channel blocker Clinidepine can cause swelling but better do a liver function ,kidney function and cardiac evaluation as swelling can be due to any of the above 3 causes.
