Dear lybrate-user,
congratulations for continuing your interest in making your life better. Ect is an option - not tried so far. But it is not a one time treatment. It has to be given under anesthesia, may be 6-12 times. Only few psychiatrists will have ect facility. Ketamine and rtms - very very few psychiatrist will have it. Ketamine will work if you are acutely suicidal. The effect lasts for lesser time than ect. Rtms may be given as outpatient since it does not need anesthesia. But the n...more

Hello, Dr. I had been masturbating obsessively, for the last for more than 30 years since my teenage time. I continue doing so even after marriage. I never had the erection problem, and I have two sons. But, during my school days, I used to lose my memory and developed shaky hands while writing. I could not write in a legible and stable manner. Hand used to shake, I used to look lazy, lethargic and fidgetty. But somehow I have managed due to good diet basically non-veg diet. Unfortunately, I suppose the side effects of my masturbation has affected my siblings, who have less concentration in studies and look weak, spite of good diet. One of my siblings developed shaky right hand and started losing focus and concentration and left the answer papers blank in examinations, after 10th Std. Now he has been diagnosed with psychosis (ONS) and is on Aripiprazole 30 mg. His hand shake still continues, along with other side effects of medicine. He started showing aggression and violence. Now, he stopped aggression, but the medicine does not help him in his personal life, like studies, concentration, focus, memory, etc. Still keeps wandering in the house, aimlessly, unable to sit or stand still, etc. What is the remedy Sir?

I am in depression and a lot of exam stress as I am a medical pg aspirant and a doctor, I am using few medications, bupropion 300 mg, lamotrigine 200 mg, venlafaxine 37. 5 mg, aripiprazole 5 mg, pacitane 2 mg, rabeprazole and ondansetron, these r prescribed drugs by a psychiatrist but I myself take. Few medications since 4 years to help with my studies, stimulants (legal ones) to be specific, modafinil 200 mg, selegiline 5 mg, caffeine 220 mg, and the problem now is I never smoked in my life, although I used to drink one year before, only one year I used to drink, was a social occasional drinker and never had cravings and have been alcohol free since a year, but now although I never smoked before, I feel like smoking to relieve my stress despite taking so many drugs, I am still suffering, feel like crying and lack of motivation to study unless I take stimulants, so smoking cravings without even smoking ever before is my problem, I don't know why?, I was maybe a bit influenced by looking at movies and my friends all around me who smoke whenever they r stressed out, which helps with them actually, maybe I thought smoking a bit might relieve stress and make me motivated a bit so I start studying again, can any psychiatrist can help me with this problem? And explain why I am having cravings ?(note: the bupropion I am using is for depression not for smoking cessation), please help me find a solution, I would take a consult as well if somebody who r addiction specialist who can help me with my problem and explain what I am going thru, thank you.

Its probably due to social learning from your intimate environment where you would have seen people taking about/ experiencing stress and smoking simultaneously. Other probable reason is the use of stimulants which usually provokes tolerance with time and as you are taking stimulant at a fixed dose so the brain might have demanding for some stimulant and it knows that nicotine is one of them. I believe you are on a cocktail of medications both self prescribed and self medicated, the latter ones ...more

I'm suffering from. Bipolar disorder, I take oxetol xr 150 mg single dose on alternate days. My situation has improved from past 10 years. I was diagnosed at the age of 12 with acute transient psychosis later I came to know that it's bipolar disorder. I usually had relapse once in 2 year or 1 year. Currently im taking maintenance dose i.e oxetol xr 150 mg. As a kid I have been always bright in my studies and sports. Medicines that have worked for me are encorate ,dicorate ,aripiprazole whenever I had relapse these medicines dosage have been increased and slowly within 2-3 months I have become normal. I personally feel that I should always take the maintenance dose. I'm working more than any average person, currently working as senior data scientist in mnc. I have done good in sports as well ,played state level tournaments. My current concern is my weight ,i want to maintain a healthy weight my height is 5'7 and my weight is 84. I want to maintain a healthy weight. I'm thankful to the suggestion given by my family psychiatry because of his suggestions and remedies only I have achieved everything in my life. Any suggestions and remedies to maintain a healthy weight will be appreciated. My current dosage is single oxetol xr 150 on alternate days. Is it possible to maintain a healthy weight with this dosage or not? Any ways to at least loose 10 kg weight with this medicine. Please help on this. Thanks in advance.

As your mother is diabetic, we can not continue olanzapine for long term.
We need to change olanzapine to safer antipsychotic like aripiprazole or Amisulpride.
Thank you

Aripiprazole is unlikely to cause hairfall, unless if you are on other medications which may have it as a side effect. There are local applications as well as oral tablets, but it is best to see a dermatologist before starting on specific medications.

Dear lybrate-user,
as I have already answered, schizophrenia needs long term maintenance dose of tablets. Relapses are worse to treat. You have not had any relapse since you were continuously on tablets. Your doctor is reducing the tablets, its dose and to less powerful tablets like aripiprazole. Let your doctor decide how long you will be on 15 mg. Since you don't have much side effect with aripiprazole, why don't you take it till the doctor decides the maintenance dose and tablet.
