Amrox-ls syrup is a combination of three medicines: ambroxol, levosalbutamol/levalbuterol and guaifenesin, which relieves cough with mucus. Ambroxol is a mucolytic which thins and loosens mucus (phlegm), making it easier to cough out. Levosalbutamol is a bronchodilator. It works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widens airways. Guaifenesin is an expectorant which decreases the stickiness of mucus (phlegm) and helps in its removal from the airways. Together, they make breathing easier.

Expectorants help thin mucus, making it easier to cough up. The ingredient guaifenesin is the only expectorant in the U.S., so look for it on the label if you need an expectorant. Suppressants help cut the number of times you cough. The active ingredient listed is usually dextromethorphan (DM).

Don't give ascoril for common cold. It contains terbutaline, and will increase herat rate. Use only simple cough remedies like benadryl cough formula, which contains only diphenhydramine and ammoniumchloride.

Cough suppressants, like dextromethorphan, can provide relief for a short time. They work on the part of your brain that controls the process.
Expectorants, like guaifenesin, can break up congestion in your chest by thinning the mucus in your airways. This way, when you do cough, you can get rid of phlegm more easily.
