No it has not found to do such thing. It can happen mostly with impaired kidney functions.
So you may try doing Kidney functions test. As allopathic medicines are excreted out by kidney they have most and first effect on kidneys.

Don't discontinue, go on with same medicine, with the same dose & try to change your diet, take fat free, salt restricted, high fiber diet, check your lipid profile every month, when your cholesterol & triglyceride will come down, then reduce the dose in consultation with a cardiologist.
