Food for healthy liver

The liver is the largest gland of the body. Conventionally speaking, most diseases take a long time to destroy it and it also takes very long to heal. There is always a scope to improve liver health by making food habit correction. Oil and alcohol are two biggest enemies of the liver as both of them make it work harder. And if the liver is already diseased, it might get worse if right diet rules are not followed.

DIETARY RECOMMENDATIONS
An increased intake of carbohydrate, moderate protein, moderate fat in recommended
Carbohydrates - 300 - 400gms / day ie. 35-40 kcal / Kg IBW
Proteins- 1.5 - 2 g / kg IBW. Supplement of high protein beverages are recommended in between meals, but only on doctor's advice.
Fat - ( 40 - 50 g) / day
Vitamin supplementation - B complex, Vitamin C should be given
Minerals- Eat less salt if fluid retention is a symptom. A potassium supplement is necessary and Iron supplement is needed in case of anemia.

FOODS TO BE AVOIDED
1. Whole pulses ( dals) or beans
2. Red meat, high-fat organ meat
3. Egg
4. Fried foods, butter ( restricted)
5. Nuts and oilseeds, dry fruits
6. Condiments and spices
7. Papad, chutney or pickles
8. Strong tea or coffee
9. All aerated drinks and Alcohol beverages

FREELY GIVEN FOODS
1. Cereals- bread or chapatti of wheat, rice, maida, suji, maize, jawar, bajra and ragi
2. Washed dals
3. Breakfast cereals of broken wheat, rice, Oatmeal or maize
4. Milk or milk products
5. Soups
6. Vegetable salads and cooked vegetables
7. Potato, sweet potato or yam
8. Fruits and fruit juices
9. Sugar, jaggery or honey
10. Jam or murabba, jellies
11. Biscuits
12. Dessert like custard or phirni / kheer
13. Beverages , water (liberal) glucose water

Hi, dear for your height your mentioned weight is normal. If you still feel you are heavy you need to follow some healthy eating habits. Try to avoid junk food, if you still want to have junk food go for healthy options. Avoid fatty items. Eat whole fruits. Instead of having soda or aerated drinks, go for sugar free fruit juice. Instead of white bread have brown bread or multi grain bread. Instead of butter go for peanut butter. Like this you have to modify your diet with healthy way. Eat healthy be healthy:)

I want to loose my weight for which I have tried all the things/ Treatment which were suggested by all my relatives but there is no result of all these. I am frustrated, firstly I wil like to make sure I am not very fatty but I want to loose weight and have a fit body. I also want to grow to muscles and have a stronger body which raise my personality and also become me notable. Can you suggest me how can I have this all, may I need to take some kind of pills, and also have to take a balance diet plan. please help me.

Dear lybrate-user, your bmi is normal. You need not to worry about your weight. If you want increase your muscle mass, you need to do lots strenghtnjng exercise along with the balanced diet. You should not go for pills and other stuffs, these are not good for health. Pre workout meal and post workout meal is important. Have a high protein diet and drink good amount of fluid.
