Osteoarthritis - A Detailed Guide for Treating it!

Osteoarthritis is a Non Inflammatory disease that affects many joints, knee joint most common. In normal joint, a firm, rubbery material called cartilage covers the end of each bone. Cartilage provides a smooth, gliding surface for joint motion and acts as a cushion between the bones. In Osteoarthritis, the cartilage breaks down, causing pain, swelling and problems moving the joint. This disease, that mostly affects women, worsens over the time and should be treated as early as possible.

Symptoms Of Osteoarthritis
Symptoms of osteoarthritis vary, depending on which joints are affected and how severely they are affected. However, the most common symptoms are pain and stiffness, particularly first thing in the morning or after resting. Affected joints may get swollen, especially after extended activity. These symptoms tend to build over time rather than show up suddenly. Some of the common symptoms include:

  1. Sore or stiff joints – after inactivity or overuse
  2. Limited range of motion or stiffness that goes away after movement
  3. Clicking or cracking sound when joint bends
  4. Mild swelling around a joint
  5. Pain that is worse after activity or toward the end of the day

Treatment Options For Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a chronic (long-term) disease. There is no cure, but treatments are available to manage symptoms. Long-term management of the disease will include several factors:

  1. Managing symptoms, such as pain, stiffness and swelling
  2. Improving joint mobility and flexibility
  3. Maintaining a healthy weight
  4. Getting enough of exercise

Physical Activity: One of the most beneficial ways to manage OA is to get moving. While it may be hard to think of exercise when the joints hurt, moving is considered an important part of the treatment plan. Simple activities like walking around the neighborhood or taking a fun, easy exercise class can reduce pain and help maintain (or attain) a healthy weight. Strengthening exercises build muscles around OA-affected joints, easing the burden on those joints and reducing pain. Aerobic exercise helps to improve stamina and energy levels and also help to reduce excess weight. Talk to a doctor before starting an exercise program.

Weight Management: Excess weight adds additional stress to weight-bearing joints, such as the hips, knees, feet and back. Losing weight can help people with OA reduce pain and limit further joint damage. The basic rule for losing weight is to eat fewer calories and increase physical activity.

Stretching: Slow, gentle stretching of joints may improve flexibility, lessen stiffness and reduce pain. Exercises such as is great ways to manage stiffness.

Management: Medical:

Success rates and quality of life improvements for knee replacement patients are reliably very high. Nine out of 10 knee replacement patients experience an immediate relief from knee pain, and 95% report they are satisfied with their procedure. Approximately 90% of replacement knee joints last 10 years, while 80% are good for 20+ years, depending on patient health and activity levels. Outcomes vary from patient to patient depend upon level of deformity and grade of Osteoarthritis.

Positive Attitude: Many studies have demonstrated that a positive outlook can boost the immune system and increase a person's ability to handle pain.

Preventive Measures

  1. People with endocrine disorders are prone to osteoarthritis. This includes hypothyroidism. You must immediately begin medications if you are diagnosed with thyroid conditions.
  2. In several cases, osteoporosis is genetic. One may inherit a tendency to develop bone deformities as he/she ages.
  3. X-ray after regular intervals helps the doctors to understand the condition of your bones and joints. This helps to prescribe exercises, medications and diet accordingly.
  4. Yoga helps to maintain joint flexibility and increase bone strength. It also helps to prevent stress and anxiety.
  5. A diet rich in protein and calcium helps to prevent degeneration and brittleness in bones. It is important to go out into the sun once in a while and soak up as much vitamin D as possible. This is a very healthy habit and contributes to the well-being of the entire skeletal systems.

Hi onion is very good vegetable to treat sexual impotence. It increases libido and strengthens reproducing organs. White onions are best for this purpose. Take about 5-10 gm root powder of Ladyfinger in a glass of milk. Add 2 tsp of mishri in this milk and drink it. This will prove helpful in improving sexual vigour. Dear I understand your concern for your mother. I would like to recommend you something that would help her to get heal and strengthen back muscles. I am sure she will get a relief. 1. Rest - take rest, but it doesn't mean a complete bed rest. Do not over exert your body. Work take rest and then work so that you do not feel tired and started paining. Precautions: 1. Avoid forward bending, if required then bend your knees first and then bend forward. 2. Avoid weight lifting. 3. Sit in chairs or car seats with proper back support. 4. Try to sleep in a position that helps you maintain the curve in your back like sidelying. 5. Get enough vit d from sun as vit d keep bones strong including spine, 6. Drink plenty of water to enhance the intervertebral disks 7. Avoid standing in the one position for a long time. 8. Try to sleep in a position that helps you maintain the curve in your back. We have various physio treatments which depends on the pain severity. So as per your question please follow the following treatment at home to reduce her pain and will give some percent of relief. 1. Apply heat directly to the area of low back pain will decrease swelling and inflammation, and ease discomfort. Apply it for 10 to 15 minutes only. 3. Relaxing for 5 minutes after ice or heat treatment. Massage - ask someone to massage your painful area using fingers or thumb. Massage using kneading technique. Slightly press the thumb and start rotating as it helps to induce relaxation, relieve pain, and reduce levels of stress chemicals, such as cortisol and noradrenaline. It will give you pain relief for time being. 3. After massage again relax for 5 min and apply any pain relieving ointment eg - volini or oraflame gel etc. Make sure not to do massage with the gel, it should not penetrate the body. Just a topical application of gel should be done. 4. Again relax your body for 5 minutes and perform some normal back extension and hamstring stretching exercises to get relief from pain. Exercises includes: back strengthening, bridging, slr, prone on elbow, prone hip extension, etc if she get pain while doing exercise please stop doing right away. Good luck. Yes your body structure can be regained you need to take good diet, I am giving you brief idea about daily diet eat a lot of protein rich food, dairy products, starchy food, eg. Beans, pulses, eggs and also potato, almonds, low-fat cheese and yoghurt. Never skip meals morning: breakfast: never skip breakfast, I am giving you few option of food items you can take 2-3 toast with butter + 1 bowl of full milk with cereal or a bowl oats/porridge or stuffed parathas/upma/poha mid morning / snack: 1 fruit + yoghurt, you can make fruit raita + nuts or fruit juice lunch: 2-3 rotis + vegetables, you can add half tsf desi ghee + 1 bowl pulses (dal) +add a bowl of full cream yoghurt or paneer + 1 bowl of rice / paneer sandwich + salad evening snack: vegetable /sandwich can add cheese / or milkshake like banana milk shake night dinner: same as lunch can avoid rice or 2 toast with roast / grilled or baked potatoes or veg sandwich / grilled veg burger (paneer) a glass of milk before going to sleeping consult for further management.

Watery discharge during pregnancy can be due to many different reasons. You will have to know the underlying cause to determine if what's coming out of your vagina is normal or not. 1. Leukorrhea. Leucorrhea, the surge in the levels of estrogen, may increase the blood flow towards your vagina, which may cause vaginal discharge during the early stages of pregnancy. The discharge is usually thin and white in color. 2. Urine. Leaking urine is quite normal during pregnancy, especially when you sneeze, cough or have a good belly laugh. The smell and color will also confirm the discharge is urine. 3. Mucus Plug Your cervix will become thin and dilate during pregnancy, which may lead to the expulsion of the mucus plug. The plug fills the cervical canal and is made of mucus. It prevents any passage of bacteria to your baby. The plug comes off in the later stages of pregnancy, usually when you're ready to give birth. 4. Amniotic Fluid Your discharge may be the amniotic fluid that comprises of dead skin cells, cervical and vaginal secretions, and vaginal bacteria. If you notice sudden gush of fluids after the end of your third trimester, this could be the amniotic fluid discharge. 5. Preterm Labor If you're witnessing a brownish- or red-colored watery discharge before you complete 37 weeks, it could be a sign of preterm labor. Go see your doctor immediately for proper diagnosis. 6. Yeast Infection If you experience symptoms such as vaginal itchiness, swollen vulva, burning sensation and greening-yellow discharge, this may indicate a yeast infection. You have to consult your doctor because it is not easy to control a yeast infection during pregnancy and it could be quite uncomfortable, too. 7. Bacterial Vaginosis You may develop bacterial vaginosis due to an imbalance in the vaginal bacteria. The most common symptoms are yellowish or grayish-white watery discharge with a strong "fishy" smell. It is important to treat it on time or else it may lead to preterm delivery, miscarriage, or post pregnancy uterine infection. 8. Sexually Transmitted Disease If you're experiencing watery discharge that changes color from white to gray, yellow or green, this could be due to a vaginal infection or sexually transmitted disease. DEAR Lybrate USER. This problem is due to irritation and inadequate nutrition of the brain. So follow few basic things …. 1) take solid diet two times in a day and liquid diet two times in a day. 2) drink only 100-150 ml of lukewarm water during meals …. 3) don’t drink water one hour before meals and one hour after meal…4) avoid oily, spicy, salty, junk, fast, fermented and stale foods…. 5) avoid late night sleeping habits …. 6) do anuloma viloma pranayam regularly early in the morning. A) eat 10 gm of ajwain seeds along with 10 gm of jaggery after meals. B) take 60 ml of trifala juice along with 20 ml of honey early in the morning and at night before sleep. C) take 5gm of fine powder of nutmeg along with triplala juice at night before sleep…. Do all these things for 15 days. It gives you good result. Consult to me for further suggestions. THANKS.

Need not to worry. Ask ultrasound center to prepare report on photo/picture shown. Actually, ultrasound technician do the ultrasound and doctor see that and prepare report (normality/abnormality if any).

You are probably under some stress that you are not aware of. If you are distracted by this, you will suffer problems of concentration. If the problem is severe you must meet with a counselor and deal with that. The stress that you feel is not dependent on the stressor i. E. The work. It is entirely dependent on your perception of stress. Life is difficult no doubt, as a general rule, but what we do adds to the stress in our response. We add to the stress of life instead of reducing it or learning to deal with it. Many of us follow a policy of avoidance. We cannot do that all of our lives. So the first thing to do is to change your perception. For example, look at it as a challenge that you would like to meet with a positive outlook. See everything as a gift from God to perform as though you are doing it for Him. God never gives us work to do beyond our capacity. You must also build a good constitution mentally, emotionally and physically to combat stress. Eat healthily, sleep well, and exercise regularly. Talk about your emotions regularly to a good friend every day. Learn stress management techniques. Do Yoga and meditation. Pray every day to God to give you the strength, and offer your work as a prayer to Him – you will give your best and you will feel so satisfied when you do it well. You must also talk to your superior that the workload is getting beyond your means and that you need more personnel to support you. Finally, learn to delegate much or some of your work to subordinates. If you do not trust, you will find it difficult to delegate.

Follow these methods to clear dark circles fastly: • Take 6 to 8 hrs sleep regularly. • Do yogasana specially SINHASANA & Bhramari Pranayam. • Apply piece of cucumber on your both eyes. • Apply almond oil or you can apply capsule of vitamin E mix it in mosturiser or cream you have daily around the eye in night and massage it lightly daily. • Take a piece of potato and make it's juice by crush it apply its juice for 15 min daily. • • Take 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric (haldi) with one teaspoon of besan mix it with water and make paste apply it around eyes for 10 minutes and make it dry remove it. • Eat green leafy vegetables daily and fruits daily. Dear user, check your bed mattress first, it should not be soft. Use hard mattress. Take hot fomentation, spinal extension exercises regularly for 10 days. Avoid prolonged position either sit or standing. Do not lean forward in sitting position. Do it and revert me. Thanks.

Cut the papaya into chunks, then use a blender or food processor to blend the fruit into a smooth paste. Apply the mask to your face and neck. Leave it on for about 30 minutes, then rinse well.
