It’s a self limiting disease unless you have severe pain or fever associated with. Wait for one week and after heretic infection heals your swollen glands below jaw too would disappear. For better advice please visit a dentist.

Please get the RCT done if possible or else you will have to get the tooth removed. Keeping glove or some other measures are very unhygienic. Your mother is known diabetic therefore you have to be over cautious as she is prone to infections. Without further delay get the tooth treatment from your dentist.

Sir. My father had a swelling on his left parotid gland a month ago. The doctor had a doubt that it might be a tumour and preferred a niddle test after his course of medications was over. Upon ultrasound scanning it was found that the gland was slightly enlarged. He took the medicines for 15 days and the disease was cured. Now he complains of having pain in his jaws since last week out of which the LEFT side seems to be more painful. As he had been consuming beetle nuts ,pan masala and alcohol for quite a long time, the doctor said that it is a oral submucous fibrosis and has prescribed him medicines for the same. He now worries that something might be associated with the parotid gland problem. Is their anything to worry.

Sir.
My father had a swelling on his left parotid gland a month ago. The doctor had a doubt that it might be a tumour...
Firstly parotid gland and sub mucus fibrosis are two different diseases. Parotid gland is affected by infection, tumor but not by OSMF. The pain and swelling on swelling on left side could be because of parotid gland infection. If you are still in doubt the next test can be MRI scan. As far as Sub mucus fibrosis, a progressive non painful condition caused by tobacco betel nut chewing with characteristic features of reduced mouth opening, burning sensation with spicy food. It’s a precancerous condition. The patient must lay off his habits, chillies spicy food and the medication has a limited role in curing the fibrous bands already formed. The surgical option is exercised when the disease is too severe. My advise is to rule out parotid gland disease first and stop all habits tobacco, alcohol, spicy fried boiling hot food and take medication for SMF.

My 7 year old daughter had cold and fever last week. She could not breathe from her nose and she was breathing from her mouth. Nasal spray also did not work. Later I took her to ayurvedic doctor. She checked and said that my child has polyps in both her nostrils. She gave some powder and medicine. Later my child cold decreased and she started to breathe through nose. Now she's completely normal but medicines course still there. And she was admitted in hospital because of pneumonia 3 years back. Will polyps go completely in those medicines? Or is there any problem? Please answer.

Even though Ayurveda is an established medical science but I have some reservations for advising you to follow it for your kid. More so because she has a history of pneumonia. Please visit an ENT surgeon or pediatric surgeon for the definitive treatment of nasal polyps. As far as I know the nasal decongestants are not advisable for kids, at the most the Nasoclear is saline based nasal drops you can use for her along with steam inhalation. The nasal polyps are best managed by surgical excision. The medicines for polyps don’t provide permanent relief.

Dear sir! my all teeth are yellow so I want to whiten them please tell me what should I do?
There are two reasons for teeth yellow; the extrinsic stains of food, plaque and calculus or intrinsic like fluorosis. Extrinsic stains would go away with Scaling and polishing and for intrinsic tooth bleach, Veneers or Crowns would be of great help. Visit a specialist dentist and get proper treatment after diagnosis.

Yes, the cavity is the tooth decay by bacteria and can be cured by cleaning and filling them. You may need Root Canal Treatment if the decay is gone deep to the nerve. The dentist would take some radiographs and treat them accordingly.

Have a check up for Caries or abrasion, attrition or erosion to know the exact cause of sensitivity to cold. If all your teeth are found normal, then nothing to worry. The usual recommendation is to avoid excessive hot or cold for the better health of your teeth. Prophylactic Use of sensitivity tooth pastes is not advisable too.

My father-in-law is around 70 years old. He has generalized chronic periodontitis since around last 10 years. He complaints of severe pain in max right 3rd molar after accidental contact with mandibular teeth. Tooth has grade 1 mobility. Adjacent tooth is grossly decayed and has only a portion of cusp remaining. I haven't examined his mouth. He cannot undergo extraction due to his medical condition. He's on anticoagulants after angioplasty since last five years. The pain is sharp shooting in nature and lingers on several hours after onset. Please suggest me what would be best for him at the moment. I am a final year student of dentistry.

If his INR, PTTK, PT is within normal range, he can be taken up for immediate extraction of offending tooth. Otherwise stop anticoagulants in consultation with treating cardiologist, and extract his tooth after 48-72 hours. For immediate pain relief he can use paracetamol tablet, get his tooth out of occlusion. Get his bad teeth extracted as and when his medical condition permits.
