Hi I will prescribe some harmless but effective flower remedy available in homoeopathy shops. Try to buy original medicines. Mix 3 drops of scleranthus + 3 drops of mimulus + 3 drops of star of bethlehem + 2 drops of rock rose. Mix these with 100 ml water and drink it every night. Hi even if you get less marks it is not the end of world. Be positive and score well in your next class.

Recently I take opinion from psychiatrist and he told me that I was suffering from social anxiety and told me for cognitive behaviour therapy as I don't want to retake medicine on daily basis as these medicines are very addictive. And he prescribed me betacap 40 for occasional use to reduce physical symptoms of anxiety (heart palpitations, sweating,ghabrahat, nervousness)but 40 mg not works great so can I take double dose if required?

Hello, Some degree of social anxiety is common in the general population. Such anxiety only becomes social anxiety disorder when the anxiety either prevents you from participating in desired activities or causes marked distress during such activities. No most of the medication prescribed for social anxiety are not addictive. Only benzodiazepines class of drug are addictive if taken on regular basis. Betacap reduces blood pressure as well. Taking more tablet may cause dizziness and fall. Do not increase the dose abruptly. They are used in performance anxiety and usually taken an hour before performance. Consult your psychiatrist for other treatment options. You can consult me for any further help required.

Ending one’s life is terrible. But often, instead of analysing the patient’s mental condition at that time, we tend to judge them. The most common cause for suicides is undoubtedly depression. Adverse social or financial conditions often contribute to the mental condition of patients. However, a recent paper published in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology might change the way we think about suicides. Lena Brundin and her co-workers have come to the conclusion in the paper titled “Role of inflammation in suicide: from mechanism to treatment,” that our immune system can trigger off suicidal thoughts and tendencies. Let us find out how:

  1. There is proof that certain medicines that are used to treat cancer patients can affect the immune responses. This in turn can trigger off suicidal tendencies.
  2. Certain injuries can lead to brain disorders which are related to inflammatory responses that might be responsible for some changes in behaviour often leading to suicidal thoughts.
  3. Just like certain medications trigger of suicidal thoughts, there are some that might diminish them like Lithium. It is used to treat bi-polar disorder. What it does is decrease immune related chemicals. Another drug has proved to be very effective in reducing suicidal thoughts and tendencies – Ketamine. Ketamine, like Lithium, has been found to block certain chemicals that are related to immune response.
  4. Though the whole topic is still under extensive research, it can perhaps be concluded that certain drugs have the ability to lessen suicidal thoughts and depression because they block some chemicals that are related to immunity.

The suicidal mentality is very complex. It requires not just medicines, but counselling, empathy, love and understanding. Often, many patients cannot come out of their depression, resulting in therapy sessions that are fruitless. In those cases, medicines that might reduce the negative thoughts and moods will come handy. It will help the patient initially to deal with the situation and start with a lot of positivity. Every year, almost one million deaths occur due to suicide. Not only does it leave behind survivors who attempt to kill themselves but also broken families that struggle to get over the death. If this research is successful, several people will benefit from it, all over the world.

My wife is suffering from chronic depression/anxiety and is taking psycho medicines. Presently taking mirnite 15 mg 0-0-1, pregabid 50mg 1-2-2, tynept 12.5mg 1-1-0 gabapin 100mg 1-0-1, petril md 0.25mg 0-0-1. But there is no improvement in her condition she has burning sensation throughout the body from top to toe, throughout the day, fear complex. She is 60 years old and taking medicines for hypertension. Despite that she is doing household work etc well. Please send your valuable suggestion to get rid of the problem. Thank you.

Dear lybrate-user, considering your wife's age and symptom of burning sensation, I would advise her to do few blood check ups like fasting sugar, vit b12 and folate level, serum calcium level, d3 and thyroid profile. After seeing the reports appropriate supplements have to be added. Till then let her continue all the tablets as prescribed so that she continues to cook and keep the house.

I am a smoker I want quit it. My weight has decreased since I smoke from last 7 yrs?

Yes, nicotine can suppress appetite. You have to quit cold turkey because the body and mind will torture you endlessly while attempting a reduction in smoking. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged on. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go for a thorough medical check-up to assess the effects of your abuse. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself. The greatest effect is in the lungs because this substance is processed through the respiratory system directly through the lung surface. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact, these conditions can exist all through the day, unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heartbeat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact, it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chew gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. At least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. You could also join twitter2quit program and enjoy its success to give up smoking.
