BDS, MDS
Dentist, Gorakhpur
There are several causes of trismus, you should mention it next time. Treating the cause help you to overcome your problem. Treatment charges would be as low as 200 rupees by consulting on phone. It can go thousands of rupees if trapped by quakes. Meanwhile you can get some temporary relief by taking medicines like divon plus, flexon Mr. etc. Therapy can be mix of jaw exercise, pain killers, in severe cases we use local steroid injections, diazepam, etc. THANK YOU.

Dentist,
Taking a large number of medications often leads to a dry mouth. Increase your fluid intake or ask your dentist about an artifical saliva product or chew sugarless gum after a meal to keep your mouth moist.

Wisdom Tooth

Wisdom tooth eruption most often leads to little pain and discomfort. If you suffer such problem, prefer to go to a dentist to know the position of the tooth. They are mostly tilted or remain inside. They never help in chewing. So we suggest to extract it to prevent any damage to the adjacent tooth due to it.

After eating tongue gets some deposits called as plaque. Which is a very normal phenomenon. Just maintain your oral hygiene by brushing two times a day. Cleaning tongue, avoid lot of coffee and tea. Using warm saline gargles at least 3-4 times a day. This will help you with your throat pain as well.

Chewing a sugarless gum after your meal for around 20 minutes freshens your breath and also make the leftover food particles cling to it.

For cavities you have to go for filling of teeth from dentist. Few advice to stop bleeding gums-- - visit to a dentist for professional cleaning once in a year - use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water to keep the area clean. - avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums.

I am having difficulties swallowing food and water. And the end of my mouth is hurting badly. Please help

BDS, Non-Resident J.R. in Dept. of Orthodontics, Certified oral implantologist, Advanced Aesthetics, Digital Smile Designer

You might be haiving third molar erupting in your mouth called as pericoronitis. The difficulty in swallowing and drinking can be because of this. Symptoms of pericoronitis can include: pain infection swelling in the gum tissue (caused by an accumulation of fluid) a" bad taste" in the mouth (caused by pus leaking from the gums) swelling of the lymph nodes in the neck difficulty opening the mouth if the pericoronitis is limited to the tooth (for example, if the pain and swelling has not spread), treat it by rinsing your mouth with warm salt water. You should also make sure that the gum flap has no food trapped under it. If your tooth, jaw, and cheek are swollen and painful, see your dentist right away. He or she can treat the infection with antibiotics (usually penicillin, unless you are allergic). You can also take pain relievers such as aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen. The dentist may also prescribe a pain medication. If the pain and inflammation are severe, or if the pericoronitis recurs, it may be necessary to have oral surgery to remove the gum flap or wisdom tooth. Your dentist can make the appropriate referral to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. A low-level laser can be used to reduce pain and inflammation associated with pericoronitis.

Hi Doctor, I am 52 years old, my wisdom teeth are loosening, it looks like it might fall off anytime. What do I do to...
Wisdom teeth are generally not useful to the fullest during chewing food. Hence if all other teeth if your mouth are in relatively good health and only wisdom teeth are loosening or giving a problem, you can get them removed. If other teeth in your mouth are also not healthy, then maybe your gums are not healthy and need a gum treatment for restoring their health.

I brush my teeth every morning but my breath smells very bad also I clean my tongue daily. What could be the reason?
Deposits over teeth surface is one of the main reason for fowl smell. The other possible reasons are keeping mouth dry for long. Constipation, any infection in mouth or even lungs could cause this.

Bad breath can be caused by dry mouth (xerostomia), which occurs when the flow of saliva decreases. Saliva is necessary to cleanse the mouth and remove particles that may cause odor. Dry mouth may be caused by various medications, salivary gland problems or continuously breathing through the mouth. If you suffer from dry mouth, your dentist may prescribe or suggest using sugarless candy and increasing your fluid intake.

Family Dentist Discusses Foods That Promote Good Oral Health

BDS, Diploma in Hospital Administration, Diploma in Pharmacy
Dentist, Delhi
According to dental professionals, the more sugary, starchy foods we consume, the more they feed the plaque-causing bacteria that are present in all of our mouths. This plaque can then harden into tartar, which is the leading cause of tooth decay and gum disease. To prevent plaque and tartar buildup, regular brushing, flossing, and gargling (mouthwash) is imperative. Certain foods can also help improve oral health. Here are a few favorites from your family dentist.

Cheese

Naturally low in sugar and high in calcium, cheese helps strengthen our teeth. It also contains a protein called casein, which may help lower the risk of cavities. More than that, there is compelling evidence that cheese preserves the whiteness of teeth by fortifying the enamel that protects the pearly-white dentin behind it.

Sugar-free gum

When we are not brushing, flossing, or gargling, saliva helps keep our mouths clean. It removes food particles, plaque, and other debris. Chewing gum, as long as it doesn't have sugar in it, stimulates saliva production and helps remove potentially harmful deposits. It is no wonder that the average family dentist recommends chewing sugar-free gum in between meals.

Celery

Once again, chewing anything helps increase the saliva in our mouths, but the foods we choose to chew should not contain sugar, and they should take a long time to chew. Celery meets these requirements. It is also quite fibrous, which means it breaks down into strands that naturally clean our teeth as we chew. We should also mention that celery is one of the few foods that has a negative-calorie effect. In other words, you burn more calories chewing and swallowing it than it contains.

Raw onion

Even if you have a clean mouth, it likely contains hundreds of millions of bacteria at any given time. While not all of them are bad, some attack tooth enamel and cause serious oral issues. Numerous studies have confirmed that raw onions have powerful antibacterial properties. Sure, they may give you bad breath. But a few raw onions on a sandwich or in a salad will also help you control marauding oral bacteria, which may mean fewer trips to your family dentist.

Steak

We're sorry vegetarians, but eating meat does have its benefits. As we mentioned, longer chewing times promote salivation that helps clean our teeth. And few things require more mastication than a big, juicy steak. In fact, chewing steak requires so much effort that it can actually strengthen our jaw muscles and our pearly whites. We should also mention that red meat contains phosphorous, which helps protect tooth enamel and bone.

Cashews

Just like raw onions, cashews contain antimicrobial oils that have been shown to reduce the bad bacteria that leads to tooth decay. Testing has also revealed that the same nut oils may fight the bacteria that causes acne breakouts, making them one of the few family dentist and dermatologist-approved foods.
