As for any other medical system, homeopathy has its specific range and limitations. It is true that we cannot deal with all situations. Recognize the limitations of homeopathy. It will only strengthen you.
Homeopathy is not a ‘panacea’. Homeopath is not an ‘all-healer’. Homeopathy is a specialized branch of therapeutics with its specialized area of application. Homeopathy is a ‘method of treating diseases using molecular imprints forms of drugs’. Nothing more, nothing less.
We should be always conscious about our limitations in practicing homeopathy. Mainly, they belong to three classes:
Limitations of homeopathy-
a) Homeopathy cannot cure diseases arising from genetic abnormalities;
b) Homeopathy cannot cure diseases arising from primary nutritional deficiency;
c) Homeopathy cannot cure diseases that require mechanical interventions.
Limitations of individual homeopaths-
a) Limitations of knowledge;
b) Limitations of skills;
c) Limitations of experience in applying homeopathy.
3. Limitations related with our tools-
a) We have no any idea regarding what are the active principles of potentized drugs, or how they actually work;
b) There is no way to know whether medicines we use are genuine regarding its identity, purity or potency- we have to simply believe the labels;
c) We do not have exact knowledge about factors that deactivate or diminish the actions of potentized drugs, and hence we cannot take precautions against them.
Therapeutic range of homeopathy is limited to the treatment of diseases arising from molecular errors caused by exogenous or endogenous pathogenic molecules binding to various biological molecules and producing their inhibitions.
Molecular imprints contained in the potentized homeopathic preparations bind to ligands or biological molecules merely due to their complementary configurations without any charge affinity, whereas natural ligands bind to their biological target molecules in capacity of their appropriate spacial configurations as well as charge affinities. So, the bindings of molecular imprints with biological molecules or their ligands will be very temporary and cannot stay long. Such bindings of molecular imprints cannot replace the natural ligand-target interactions happening as part of vital processes.
Molecular imprints cannot compete with natural ligands in binding to their natural biological targets. Hence it is obvious that potentized homeopathic preparations cannot interfere in biological ‘ligand-target’ processes such as ‘substrate-enzyme’, ‘antigens-antibodies’, ‘signal-receptor’ etc. As such, chances of potentized homeopathic medicines acting as pathological agents are very rare even if used indiscriminately. Molecular imprints can interfere only in interactions between pathogenic molecules and biological molecules, as well as off-target bindings of ligands with biological molecules, where only configurational affinity is involved. Obviously, molecular imprints can act upon only the molecular blocks created by exogenous or endogenous foreign pathological molecules.
Exogenous pathogenic molecules may be coming from environment through food, water, air, drugs, toxins, alien proteins, infectious agents and the like. Endogenous pathogenic molecules may be off-target actions of metabolic byproducts, free radicals, various biological substrates and ligands, endocrine secretions, neuro transmitters, deformed proteins, antibodies (miasms), immune bodies etc etc.
Molecular imprints contained in potentized drugs selected as similimum can bind to these pathogenic molecules in capacity of their complementary conformational affinity and deactivate them, thereby removing the molecular inhibitions they produced.
When modern life supporting facilities are required, homeopath should refer the case to a modern hospital, instead of himself trying to use allopathic drugs. I had had many occasions when I had to consult allopaths for myself as well as my family members, when homeopathy did not help.
Same way, in many chronic cases where allopathy has nothing to do, homeopathy will solve the problem like a magic wand. We should be well aware of the strengths and limitations of homeopathy.
Surgery is another specialization, which should be done by surgeons- not homeopaths. Even in modern medicine, a medical specialist will not do surgery. He will send his patients to surgeons, when surgery is required. A cardiologist will not do surgery, but send his patient to a cardiac surgeon. An interventional cardiologist will not do a bye-pass surgery. Every specialization has its special field, and its limitations.
Potentized homeopathic drugs cannot be produce anaesthesia.
Potentized drugs cannot prevent pregnancy or cause abortion. It is ridiculous to talk about 'homeopathic' contraceptives. CONCEPTION and PREGNANCY are natural PHYSIOLOGICAL processes. Molecular imprints contained in potentized drugs cannot prevent normal interactions between biological molecules and their natural ligands.
Even though potentized drugs can provide short term prophylaxis during epidemics and in acute infectious diseases, but cannot be used for life long immunizations, as molecular imprints get deactivated within our body with in a short period.
Diseases arising from ‘inherited’ genetic abnormalities cannot be cured by homeopathy. Diseases caused by ‘new mutations or changes to the DNA’ could be ‘prevented’, cured, or at least ‘relieved’ by homeopathic treatment. Potentized drugs cannot create epigenetic errors, but can prevent it, and deal with pathologies arising from epigenetic causes.
A ‘genetic disorder’ is an illness caused by abnormalities in genes or chromosomes, especially a condition that is present from before birth. Most genetic disorders are quite rare and affect one person in every several thousands or millions.
A ‘genetic disorder’ may or may not be a heritable disorder. Some genetic disorders are passed down from the parents’ genes, but others are always or almost always caused by new mutations or changes to the DNA. In other cases, the same disease, such as some forms of cancer, may be caused by an inherited genetic condition in some people, by new mutations in other people, and by nongenetic causes in still other people.
At the same time, these molecular imprints can effectively deal with the pathogenic actions of deformed proteins that may result from genetic errors, thereby preventing them from creating cascading of pathological molecular blocks at various targets. As such, homeopathic medicines can play a great role even in the treatment of certain diseases of genetic origin, at least as palliatives.
Moreover, potentized homeopathic medicines can safeguard genetic material from dangerous mutations that may be caused the by inhibitory actions of endogenous or exogenous pathogenicl agents such as toxic drugs, heavy metals, super-oxides etc., on enzymes related with nucleic acid synthesis and genetic expressions.
In any genetic disorder, there would be a cascading of molecular errors, which are caused by the absence or abnormalities of some essential proteins or enzymes. Secondary diseases arising from such cascading actions resulting from genetic disorders could be treated by homeopathy, even though the basic abnormality of genes will remain untouched by such a treatment. We can say, we cannot cure genetic disorders, but can give relief to many complaints associated with such disorders.
Potentized drugs are effective in treating various 'injuries' and their after-effects. A physical INJURY means a DAMAGE to any tissue. It may be burns, scalds, sprains, strains, fractures, cuts, contusions, bruises, abrasions etc etc. BURNS may be caused by chemicals, heat, radiations or many factors.
In any injury, there is DAMAGE to tissues. CELLS are damaged, resulting in release of of various catecholamines, cytokines, histamines and various CHEMICAL MOLECULES that initiate INFLAMMATORY processes, depending upon the nature of injury and the tissue affected. Various normal conversions and transportation of metabolites are obstructed, and they accumulate in various locations where they inhibit other biological molecules. PAIN, BURNING, SWELLING, NUMBNESS- all abnormal sensations are the effects of INHIBITIONS these ENDOGENOUS molecules produce in different biochemical pathways.
NO doubt, INJURIES are associated with MOLECULAR ERRORS. There cannot be an injury without any molecular error.
Regarding MENTAL or EMOTIONAL injury, they are molecular level errors produced by various ENDOGENOUS neurochemicals released in excess into the brain, by the action of various PHYSICAL influences such as auditory, tactile, visual, or olfactory stimuli.
Aetiology- “The assignment of a cause”
Here, a prescription is based primarily on some past trauma, illness or event rather than on the presenting symptoms. The stronger the cause-and-effect relationship between the trauma and the presenting state, the more is the etiological prescription is indicated.
In cases with a direct aetiology, there is a clear and direct relationship between the presenting problem and the trauma which preceded it, no matter how long the problem has persisted. For example, when a patient say ( I have had recurrent headaches ever since a head injury three years ago”) that is a direct etiology. In such a case, a ‘head injury’ remedy first is to be looked for, using the symptoms of the case to differentiate between the remedies in that group. Kent’s repertory contains many etiological rubrics showing those remedies, which from clinical experience have an established reputation in curing ailments following a particular trauma, be it grief, fright, bad news, vaccination, injury, poisoning etc. the appropriate rubric is a good starting place in a case displaying a direct etiology.
Sometimes when the cause and effect relationship is very clear, particularly if there are no outstanding symptoms in the case, the etiology can completely over-rule symptomatology as the basis for the prescription. Thus it is that our ‘trauma’ remedies such as Aconite, Arnica and Hypericum have cured many symptoms and conditions, which never appeared in their respective proving.
In a case having a direct etiology there are three choices for the prescriber: the prescription may be based on the etiology alone, on the symptoms alone or on combination of the two. It is seen that wherever possible the third option is the most reliable one, but the etiology should be used as a starting point provided there are remedies known to have that etiology as a confirmed indication.
SNACKS AND DRINKS
Avoiding high- calorie snacks and drinks by always choosing nutritious alternatives will keep you trim and healthy.
THE WRONG CHOICE
Many mass-produced foods contain large amounts of sugar and saturated fats, and are therefore high in calories. Cutting down on processed food helps reduce your risk of obesity and heart disease. Reducing the amount of sugar in your diet may help prevent the development of tooth decay and diabetes. Read the labels on processed food, checking the amount of sugar and fat.
IMPROVING YOUR HEALTH
How healthy is your diet?
Take the time to think about your snacking habits. This will help you make a healthy choice.
- Do you eat high-fiber alternatives to chips like baked potatoes, brown rice, or pasta?
- Do you make burgers from lean ground beef or buy ready-made ones with added salt, fat, and sugar?
- Do you grill burgers or fry them?
- Do you snack on vegetables or fruit, rather than chips or cookies?
CAFFEINE- ARE YOU DRINKING TOO MUCH EACH DAY?
Caffeine is a stimulant that reduces fatigue and improves concentration. However, just three or four cups of tea a day may be enough to produce adverse effects, including tremors, irritability, restlessness, sleeping difficulties, anxiety, and diarrhea in some people. Reducing your caffeine intake gradually will help minimize withdrawal symptoms.
THE RIGHT CHOICE
Snacks can be healthy and nutritious, as well as tasty and easy to prepare. The quickest, and perhaps healthiest of all, is fruit . plain, lightly- salted air-popped popcorn is another favorite. Sandwiches fillings such as tuna, low-fat cottage cheese, and chicken (without its skin). For something different, try some shredded vegetables with a low-fat salad dressing that adds taste not excess calories.
Carrots, celery sticks, cherry tomatoes, pepper rings, and cucumber slices may be eaten in side salad, or as a low calorie snack between meals.
An ancient food, yoghurt has bad many great claims made about its healing properties. It is a valuable source of nutrients and it has the extra bonus of being an excellent infection fighter. Yoghurt is also very easy to make.
Whatever its healing properties, yoghurt is a nutritional boon. It is a good source of milk nutrients, such as protein, calcium, potassium and riboflavin. Yoghurt is recommended by many medical practitioners to postmenopausal women because it is such a rich source of calcium, which creates bone density, and helps to prevent the brittle-bone disease osteoporosis.
Research conducted at the Long island Jewish Medical Center, New York, has substantiated the claim that yoghurt is an effective treatment for vaginal yeast infections such as thrush. A group of women with a history of chronic yeast infections agreed to eat 225 grams ( 8 ounces) of ‘live’ yoghurt containing the Lactobacillus acidophilus culture each day for six months. As a result, they suffered far fewer yeast infections than a control group who did not eat yoghurt.
Research by Dr. George M. Halpern at the University of California School of Medicine at Davis found that yoghurt may also boost the immune system. People who ate two 225 gram pots o ‘live’ yoghurt containing Lactobacillus bulgaricus each day for four months had significantly higher blood level of gamma-interferon, one of the body’s infecition-fighting substances. Further studies by Dr. Halpern found that consuming regular doses of yoghurt also cut the chances of catching a cold by about 25 percent, and reduced the symptoms of hay fever by a similar amount. Yoghurt is also thought to increase the activity of NK (natural killer) cells in the body, which attack viruses.
Does only ‘live’ yoghurt work?
It was previously believed that only yoghurt which contained live cultures of Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus acidophilus and streptococcus thermophilus had disease-fighting powers. But research by Dr. Joseph A Scimeca at Kraft General Foods in the United States has shown that even yoghurt that has had the majority of its live cultures killed by heating or freezing will still boost the immune system.
A common infection, thrush is caused by the yeast Candida albicans. Although it is always present in the body, certain conditions and doses of antibiotics, can cause the yeast to proliferate and produce the infection. Thrush usually affects the vagina but may also affect the mouth, throat and anal area. Vaginal thrush produces a thick white or yellow discharge and intense irritation; oral thrush causes white patches in the mouth and anal thrush is associated with a rash and irritation.
MAKING YOUR OWN YOGHURT
- Yoghurt is cheap and very easy to make. All you need is a saucepan, a thermometer, a bowl or a vacuum flask, 570 of milk (any sort will do) and a tablespoon of ‘live’ plain yoghurt.
- Pour the milk into a saucepan and heat to boiling point. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the milk to cool to 49*C. Add 1 tablespoon of live plain yoghurt to the milk as a ‘starter’ and mix thoroughly.
- Pour the mixture into a bowl and cover it with non-PVC cling film. Alternatively, pour the yoghurt mixture into a vacuum flask and then screw down the stopper.
- If you are using a bowl, wrap it in a towel and put it in a warm place. Leave the mixture undisturbed until it thickens, usually after eight hours. Be careful not to let the mixture incubate for too long as it may start to separate.
- Pour into pots and eat immediately or refrigerate. Yoghurt will keep for up to five days. Save 1-2 tablespoons of your yoghurt as a ‘starter’ for the next batch. You may have to buy a fresh ‘starter’ after making a few batches.
If you want a yoghurt with a creamier texture or a fresh tasty dessert, follow these suggestions.
To make a thick Greek-style yoghurt, line a large colander or sieve with gauze or muslin. Pour boiling water through the gauze to scald it. Place the colander or sieve over a bowl, pour in the yoghurt and let it drip overnight .
Add honey, chopped fruit, or unsweetened cooked fruit puree for sweetness or flavor after the yoghurt has been made.
Frozen yoghurt made with low-fat milk provides a less fattening dessert than ice cream.
IDEAS FOR USING YOGHURT
- Yoghurt is delicious eaten on its own, but combining it with other foods can provide a variety of nutritious snacks or meals. Choose low-fat varieties.
- Add yoghurt to soups or casseroles to thicken and add creaminess. When cooking with yoghurt, use a low heat high temperatures can make the mixture curdle.
- Use yoghurt as a tasty topping for muesli or fruit desserts, potato salad, baked potatoes and cold pasta dishes.
- Add lemon rind and paprika to yoghurt to make a sauce for kebabs.
- Mix fresh herbs and garlic with yoghurt to transform it into a delicious dip or dressing for salads.
- Use yoghurt instead of cream in cake fillings and toppings.
Heart disease accounts for about one third of all adult deaths, but dietary changes would help prevent it.
- Eat more fiber
It can be found in whole grain cereals and breads, fresh fruit and vegetables, dried beans, peas, and lentils. Fiber reduces the amount of fat and cholesterol you absorb while digesting fatty foods.
- Eat less saturated fats.
Cut down on fatty foods, choosing lean meats and polyunsaturated vegetable oil such as olive oil. Eat more fish and poultry, and switch to skimmed milk and low-fat dairy products.
- Cut down on fats and sugar.
Avoid fats and highly refined sugary foods, such as ice cream, cookies, cakes, and many processed products.
- Keep your weight down.
Obesity is known to increase your risk of coronary heart disease.
- Eat only four eggs a week.
They are high in cholesterol.
- Reduce your salt intake.
It may raise your blood pressure, which in turn increases your risk of developing coronary heart disease.
EATING FOR A HEALTHY DIGESTIVE SYSTEM:
The benefits fiber:
Lack of fiber in the diet is the most common reason for constipation. Fiber consists of those parts of a plant which pass directly through your intestine without being digested and absorbed. It adds bulk to your feces, thus encouraging efficient bowel function. Increases your fiber consumption by eating more fruit, raw and green leafy vegetables, whole grain bread and cereals, and dried beans which will both prevent and treat constipation. An inadequate intake of fiber-rich foods is thought to contribute to many other digestive disorders.
COPING WITH IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME:
Irritable bowel syndrome is one of the most common, but least well understood, digestive disorders. It is more common in women and usually begins early in adult life. Normally, the contents of the intestine are pushed along by regular, rhythmical waves of bowel wall contraction, known as peristalsis. In this syndrome, irregular, uncoordinated peristalsis causes discomfort and disrupts the passage of faces through the rectum.
- Abdominal cramps and distension.
- A change in bowel habits either diarrhea or constipation.
- Attacks of nausea and flatulence.
- A need to open the bowels several times a day.
- Avoid foods and drinks which make your symptoms worse.
- Learn some relaxation exercises to combat stress.
- Increase your intake of fiber.
- If you smoke, stop.
Maintaining your water balance is vital:
Water is an important part of your diet. About 60 percent of your body is made up of water and many bodily processes require water to function normally. During the passage of waste products along the intestine, toward the rectum, water is drawn in from the surrounding blood vessels, softening the feces and making them easier to pass.
There is a continuous loss of water from your body in urine and sweat, as moisture in the air you breathe out, and, in small amounts, in the feces.
This lost water is replaced by drinking and eating. Many foods, like fruit and vegetables, contain water. Water is also formed inside the body by the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
- Eat slowly and make sure you chew your food properly.
- Relax at meal times- do not try to eat on the move.
- Allow yourself at least half an hour’s rest after a meal.
- Always avoid eating a large meal late at night.
- Do not drink too many carbonated drinks, including fizzy water. They introduce gas into the digestive tract.
- When beginning a high-fiber diet, build up your fiber intake gradually to avoid any discomfort or flatulence
Are you eating for good health?
The food you eat influences your health, so making the right decisions about your eating behavior and about what and how much you eat, are in your best interests. Answering the following questions will enable you to assess just how healthy your diet really is and discover which areas could be altered to improve your health.’
How many proper meals a day do you eat on average?
Are you overweight?
- Not at all.
- Just a little.
- Two or three.
- More than three.
If you are overweight you should reduce your weight by eating less fat and more fiber and exercising more. People who are overweight tend to die earlier than those who are of average weight. They are also more prone to coronary heart disease, stroke, hernias, some cancers, diabetes, arthritis, and high blood pressure.
It is better to eat two or three moderate-size meals during the day, rather than one large feast. Your body’s metabolism works more efficiently with a regular supply of nutrients. If you eat too many large meals, or one big meal a day, you are more likely to become obese, and to suffer from indigestion and peptic ulcers.
How often do you eat red or fatty meats?
- Twice a week, or less.
- Three to four times a week.
- Almost every day.
Red and fatty meats (including processed meats such as sausages and hamburgers) contain large amounts of saturated fat, so you should not eat them more than twice a week. Introduce as many alternative sources of protein as possible into your diet, for example from fish and poultry. Also , aim to have at least one completely meat-free day a week, by preparing nutritious dishes containing a mixture of grains.
How many snacks do you eat during the day between meals?
- One or two.
- Three or more.
Although snacking is a bad habit that you should try to avoid, what you eat between meals is more important than whether or not you snack. Sweets, cookies, potato chips, chocolates, and cakes are high in calories, refined sugar, and fats. So, if your do snack choose a piece of fresh fruit or a raw vegetable which will provide you with vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
How often do you eat fresh fruit and vegetables?
- Twice a day, or more.
- Almost every day.
- Less than four times a week.
Eating vegetables at least twice day is good for you. They provide minerals and essential vitamins, particularly if eaten raw or lightly cooked. They also boost your fiber intake, without adding many calories. Of course, to balance your diet, you will also need to eat foods that are sources of energy, protein, and fat.
How often do you eat butter, cream, or whole milk?
- Twice a week, or less.
- Most days.
- More than once a day.
Only eat whole milk products occasionally. They are very high in saturated fats. These can increase your risk of heart disease. They are high in calories too, which can cause weight problems. It is better to replace butter with polyunsaturated margarine, cream with low-fat yogurt, and whole milk with skimmed.
How many cups of tea, coffee, or cola do you drink a day?
- Two or less.
- Three or four.
- More than five.
People’s sensitivity to caffeine varies, but more than five cups of strong coffee will usually cause some unpleasant side effects, such as irritability, sleeping difficulties, and tremors. Reduce your caffeine intake by drinking water, diluted fruit juices, or decaffeinated products.
Vital for health
Experts believe that carbohydrates should make up approximately 55 percent of a healthy diet. Starch is the optimum source for energy and should always be eaten in preference to sugars. Even when dieting starch should play a major role in your diet.
Many of my patients come to me for help with their diets. Most of these people have been overweight, gassy and bloated after meals. Food combining can provide the perfect solution. When you food combine, fat is able to burn away properly; so you are not left with undigested food particles lurking throughout your body. The main thing to remember is that foods fat into different groups, and it is important not to eat certain groups at the same time as this will hinder good digestion.
When done properly, food combining will:

Without food combining, you:
- Make complete digestion impossible

The problem is that some foods are digested more quickly than others; some require different digestive enzymes, and others need different conditions in the stomach for proper absorption. For example, proteins need acid digestive juices, while carbohydrates need alkaline juices for their digestion.

- A diet high in fat (particularly saturated fat) and high in salt is associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease.
- It is estimated that, on average, a third of cancers could be prevented by changes in diet. A diet which is high in fibre and whole grain cereal and low in fat has the potential to prevent a number of cancers, including colon, stomach and breast cancer.

This is because foods high in sugar and additives lack chromium which is removed in the refining process. Chromium is needed for controlling blood sugar levels; when these levels are out of control it can trigger these behavioural problems.
- A diet that is low in the essential nutrient calcium (needed to keep your bones strong) increases the risk of bones becoming weak or brittle a condition known as osteoporosis.
- A diet low in nutrients puts enormous strain on the liver. The liver is essential for the proper digestion and absorption of life-sustaining vitamins and minerals. For optimum health you need your liver to be in peak condition. The liver cannot cope with large amounts of saturated fat and alcohol and this can lead to liver and kidney problems, such as kidney disease and cirrhosis (a life-threatening condition where the cells of the liver die).
