The condition is termed as Metrorrhagia also known as the dysfunctional uterine bleeding .. Basically, this condition is characterized by bleeding episodes (mainly spotting but can lead to severe bleeding) outside the menstrual phase. Metrorrhagia is considered a symptom of a possible health problem but shouldn’t be handled as a serious health problem right away. One should not panic. Some of the main cause are----------- • Endometrial hyperplasia. This condition is said to be a result of abnormal levels of estrogen and decreased levels of progesterone. This abnormality in hormonal levels would then prompt excessive endometrial cells. . Cervicitis. This is known as infection of the cervix. Bleeding during the infection would indicate prompt attention as this may progress to a chronic problem. • Abortion or miscarriage. This is a common cause of vaginal bleeding. There are cases where after abortion, fetal parts are left that can cause for vaginal infection and bleeding. • Infection. Sexually transmitted infection/s is a probable cause of metrorrhagia. Syphilis is known to cause vaginal bleeding. Those who have Lyme disease are prone to metrorrhagia as they become susceptible to infections. • Hormonal imbalance. There are underlying conditions such as hyperthyroidism/hypothyroidism that cause hormonal imbalance. • Coagulation problems. Women who have an underlying coagulation (blood clotting) problem such as those prone to bleeding are highly susceptible to metrorrhagia. • Use of contraception. The use of devices that can traumatize the vaginal or uterine lining can cause bleeding. IUD is a common device to cause metrorrhagia. I wonder why your Gynaecologist could not guide you properly.Although in your case it seems like Endometrial Hyperplasia along with Cervicitis but a physical examination is surely required to confirm diagnosis.

Lymphogranuloma Venereum - What Causes it?

D.E.H.M
Sexologist, Faridabad
Lymphogranuloma Venereum - What Causes it?

Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is a STD caused by the three different types of the “Chlamydia trachomatis” bacterium. LGV is generally a disease of the lymphatic system. It is characterized by small, asymptomatic skin lesions along the pelvis or groin region. It has been noticed that men are more prone to this than women.

What are the symptoms of lymphogranuloma venereum?
The symptoms may start within a few days or months after coming in contact with the bacteria. Some of the common symptoms are:
1. Pain during bowel movement
2. The growth of small painless sores in the genital area
3. Your skin might swell and turn red.
4. There can be drainage from the lymph nodes in the groin.
5. Blood and puss may pass from the rectum as well

What are the possible complications related to lymphogranuloma venereum?
1) The patient may have brain inflammation although this is very rare
2) The patient may suffer from infection in joints, eyes, heart, and liver
3) The rectum may get narrower and scary
4) There may be long-term swelling and inflammation of the genitals

How can you diagnose lymphogranuloma venereum?
1. Generally, doctors suspect lymphogranuloma venereum when the patient is suffering from genital ulcers, swollen lymph nodes and proctitis (inflammation of the rectum and anus).
2. Rectal specimens, genital lesions, and lymph node specimens are taken to test for Chlamydia trachomatis. This is detected by culture, nucleic acid detection, and direct immunofluorescence tests.
What are the treatments available for lymphogranuloma venereum?

People with LGV must be treated with antibiotics and drainage of the bulbous growths may also be necessary for symptomatic relief. Generally, two antibiotics are used to treat such patients:
1. Doxycycline, may be used to treat patients who are not pregnant.
2. Erythromycin is used in other cases and especially for women who are pregnant.

HIV positive patients and HIV-negative patients are treated in the same way. However, HIV patients may have to continue the treatment for a longer period of time due to the compromised immune system. The patients have to abstain from sexual activity till the completion of the antibiotic dose. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

This abnormality in hormonal levels would then prompt excessive endometrial cells. • Uterine cancer. This is considered a common cause of the metrorrhagia. Increasing age is related to uterine cancer, making postmenopausal women as victims of the uterine cancer. Tumors such as those found in ovarian cysts can result to abnormal off-menstrual bleeding. • Ruptured polyps. There are cases where a woman is unaware that she has cervical polyps. Somehow, after sexual contact, it will be identified. Postcoital bleeding should not be taken lightly, as this may indicate for presence of polyps in the cervix or endometrium. • Cervical dysplasia. This condition is a pre-cancer stage that involves vaginal spotting as a symptom. This may be indicative that cancer development is in progress. • Cervicitis. This is known as infection of the cervix. Bleeding during the infection would indicate prompt attention as this may progress to a chronic problem. • Abortion or miscarriage. The use of devices that can traumatize the vaginal or uterine lining can cause bleeding. IUD is a common device to cause metrorrhagia. Treatment depends upon the cause of Uterine bleeding and for that a thorough physical examination is required. So my advise is to immediately consult a gynaecologist so as to diagnose the underlying cause at the earliest and treatment given accordingly.

No it is not possible. There is a slim chance if it was done in the middle part of menstrual cycle. Though anal sex alone does not lead to pregnancy, pregnancy can still occur with anal sex or other forms of sexual activity if the penis is near the vagina and its sperm is deposited near the vagina's entrance and travels along the vagina's lubricating fluids.

7 Tips for a Healthy Heart

Diploma in Nutrition and Health Education

7 Tips for a Healthy Heart

If you are concerned about your heart’s health, it is important for you to make some dietary modifications. Simple changes in your everyday diet may offer benefits, which help in preventing future heart problems. If you suffer from high blood pressure or high cholesterol or have atrial fibrillation.

Here are some tips regarding the best diet for protecting your heart:

  1. Believe in the food hype: Having healthy meals is certainly beneficial and makes a big difference to your heart health. Consuming meals which contain vegetables, grains, low fat dairy and lean meat will allow you to live a longer and healthier life.
  2. Avoid crash diets: A crash diet may be effective, if you want to fit in a dress within one month. However, for improving your heart health, undertaking different fad diets is not useful. Meals in which a certain type of nutrients such as carbohydrates or fats are ruled out are not beneficial as well. You should have a sensible approach towards your diet and focus on food products such as vegetables, whole grains and lean meat.
  3. Do not overeat: Overeating will lead to weight gain and commonly, many people get heart attack after taking a big meal.
  4. Eat less salt: You should consume less amount of salt in your diet and do not eat more than one teaspoon of salt a day. Avoid any food item which contains high amounts of sodium. Salt is responsible for increasing blood pressure.
  5. Limit your intake of alcohol and caffeine: In case you suffer from atrial fibrillation, you should avoid caffeine and any other stimulant as they tend to trigger the symptoms. You must drink moderately as consuming more than one drink a day increases your risks of having heart problems.
  6. Choose meat wisely: You should avoid red meat, which contains large amount of saturated fats as these are not good for the heart. You should choose the leanest cuts of meats and trim all fat from it. You should opt for cuts such as flank, rump roast, tenderloin and sirloin. Pork tenderloin, chicken and turkey breast are other alternatives.
  7. Add fish to your diet: Fish is essential for improving your heart health. Try to avoid having deep fried fish and choose grilled fish or roasted fish, which are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Consume fishes like tuna, salmon, trout and sardines.

You should also add whole grains to your diet. They are effective in controlling blood sugar and lower the chances of diabetes. Hence, the risks of heart diseases are less if you do not have diabetes. Whole grains also help with weight loss, which is beneficial for the heart. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.
