1.You may be having anxiety or stress. Avoid stress. 2.You need 7-8 hours of sound sleep to remain healthy. 3.Go for regular exercise, Take part in games and sports, 4.Do yoga, meditation and deep breathing exercise like pranayama to calm your mind, control your emotion, relieve anxiety and improve concentration. 5.Adhere to a specific sleep time and regular schedule 6.Take light dinner. 7.Avoid taking tea/coffee at bed time. Have a glass of warm milk at bed time . 8. Don’t go to sleep immediately after dinner. Take a small walk after dinner and if possible take hot water bath before sleep. Read a light magazine or interesting book before going to bed 9. Avoid late night. 10. Don’t sleep in day time 11. Don’t take sleeping pill 12. If no relief consult doctor.

I had swelling in knees sometimes at toes also what does it indicates and what is solution for the same.

This could be due to OA knee &/Or obesity. Physiotherapy along with medicines will help. Do knee exercises. It may have to be further investigated Rule out diabetes & vit.D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with a soft bedding on it. Any way take multivitamins & other antioxidants along with. IBUPROFEN 200mg OD & SOS x 5days CALDIKID PLUS (mankind) 1 tab ODx10days You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Do ask for detailed treatment plan.. Don't ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana -- Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day

Hi I 'm 33 years old male from last 3-4 months initial had been facing issue related to muscular pain in legs + upper/middle back pain (spine)- also experienced pain when trying to move/raise leg specifically in morning, slowly and slowly with time, medicines (pain-killers for muscular pain etc.) and few back exercises, it went away- however few issues still remain and have increased as such over time :- 1.Whenever I go to washroom and sit down (without any support as such) continuously for 1-2 mins or more. , I start feeling pressure on the toes and extreme numbness/tingling sort of appears which lasts for 3-4 mins. After I get up from that position -as soon as I get up, I feel pain on little bit below the left side of the knee (of the right leg) and pressure on the middle chest-position (food pipe) - earlier ,when I used to get up from the position , the pain occurred on the middle back side but after few back exercises+ medicines ,it switched to almost the knee portion and it occurs on a daily basis. I had gone for all types of tests blood sugar, TSH,TLC, DLC,SGOT, SGPT,AEC, CBC,cholesterol etc. All fine but seems RBC count is increasing over the last 2 tests I had undergone in the last 8 weeks or so 1st test count was 5.7 million/cumm 2nd test it showing 6.0 million/cumm haemoglobin increased from 14.3 gm% to 15.1% (though within normal limits as per report) MCH and MCV slightly lower values than normal 2.I feel a lot of wrinkles appearing along with numbness on both my hands - 2-3 months before, when I used to keep the legs straight onto table or bed while sitting in the chair (table/bed at slightly higher position than the chair) and watching something/working with laptop etc. , numbness on legs and hands used to appear and last till I get up and walk around for 4-5 mins. Now for last 10-15 days, I used to suddenly have a lot of wrinkles/some type of numbness along with dryness on fingers of both the hands , palms become reddish at that moment with a large no of wrinkles appearing though I can work but still uncomfortable until they are gone after 10-15 mins or so . 3.Still pain appears on extreme lower back position specifically when I sit for 30-1 hr. In car/office etc. So is it all related to spine or is something related to blood cells which is causing all this trouble for last 3-4 months ? Could you please guide me on these issues and let me know the resolution for the same - any tests, specific type of exercises etc.

6 Ways To Improve Bone Health!

Bones are similar to a porous framework which is filled with minerals that make it hard and strong. With age, there is gradual degradation and the mineralized portion is lost, thereby leading to thinning of the bone. The word osteoporosis literally translates to porous bones, which is due to the gradual demineralisation. In addition to the natural ageing process, there are other diseases that can accelerate the demineralization process.

Women are more prone to demineralisation, and after the age of 40, they should take extra precaution to slow down the onset of the condition. The following are some ways to improve bone health and halt osteoporosis in the long run-

  1. Diet: Ensure that your diet has sufficient amounts of vitamin D and calcium. Though calcium is the essential mineral for bone formation, vitamin D is required for the absorption of calcium, and therefore both these elements play a vital role in maintaining the quality of the bones in our body. Most people require about 1,000 mg of calcium and about 500 units of vitamin D for optimal bone health. This requirement goes up slightly in postmenopausal women.

  2. Sun Exposure: In most people, exposure to the sun allows the body to make vitamin D, but careful sun protection prevents this from happening. Also, with age, the body’s ability to form intrinsic vitamin D also declines. The body, therefore, relies on supplements. Most dairy products are good sources of calcium. In addition, spinach, salmon, turnips, and broccoli are some calcium-rich foods. Supplements of calcium carbonate or calcium citrate can be taken if your diet is lacking in calcium. Vitamin D also should be included in the supplementation. The treatment for osteoporosis is incomplete without these two supplements.

  3. Exercise With Weights: The constructive tension that exercise puts on the body helps in bone building, whatever the age may be, which prevents the onset of osteoporosis. Any exercise which improves muscle mass strengthens the bones, and puts stress on the bones is advisable. Since the fractured area due to osteoporosis mainly includes the spine, lower back exercises, yoga, tai chi, and abdominal exercises all work wonders. Pick any of these and do them for 30 minutes three times a week.

  4. Quit Smoking: Continuing to smoke while taking osteoporosis medications is completely useless. Nicotine negates all the effects which defeat the purpose of taking the medication and is as good as taking no medication at all. So if you want the bone thinning to stop, stop smoking.

  5. Alcohol Consumption: While a drink or two per week is permissible, more than this can harm the bones significantly.

  6. Constant Health Watch: Talk to a doctor about how other routine medications (if any) can affect your bone health. Also, identify how frequently you should check your bone mineral density and stick to the schedule.

Bone health and osteoporosis can be managed with some conscious efforts. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Orthopaedics.

Doctor, I am having osteoarthritis, and I am having severe pain in my knee, my local Dr. Has prescribed me some medicines, but still I am suffering from severe pain, please can you suggest me something for relief, as I am already having ultracet tab, as a pain killer, & dynapar plus (spray) further I don't want to consume any painkillers, any other way to get rid of pain?

I actually need to see what grade of arthritis is it, because in advanced stages, no medicine will work and it is not advisable to take pain killers for a long time even though tab ultracet is quite safe in this aspect. If someone is suffering from scoliosis, then it could be possible that scoliosis be genetic, I mean it can be transfer from mother or father to their child?

Hello thanks for query, scoliosis is a disorder in which there is a sideways curve of the spine, scoliosis can run in families. A child who has a parent, brother, or sister with scoliosis should have regular check ups by the family doctor.

Please get your thyroid profile and a fbs ppbs test done. These are blood tests and are to be taken in empty stomach. Without these reports it is not possible to understand why you are losing weight so get these tests done soon and get back to us with the results.

Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment where a limb or the entire body is immersed in warm water followed by the immediate immersion of the limb or body in ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation.

Dr i'm diabetic and 45 yeas old. For past three months I have pain in my shoulders but not bone ache. My vains are paining and I cannot use my hands as before while taking bath i'm not able to scrub my back as easy as I was.

It could be due to cervical spondylosis this is quite a common condition rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Use no pillow under the head. Any way take ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days do neck & back (spine) exercises contact me again if need be. Use of cervical collar will give you relief. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take you will need other supportive medicines also.

My father has undergone c2-c7 decompressive laminectomy surgery on 2010, now again he is suffering with same problem of nerves tigthness & unable to walk. Now doctors again recomded for surgery, weahther it is adviceable for surgery any risk is invovled in surgery.

Hi, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc and with no other associated constitutional symptoms like evening rise in temperature, loss of weight, excessive sweating at night etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation.
