Sir I have doing brush twice a day. But bad smell is coming from my mouth. What is the reason.

Advanced Aesthetics, BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Hi, there are various reasons of bad breath like impurities in blood, inefficient digestive system, dry mouth (lack of saliva production), gum disease, cavities, plaque and tartar formation around teeth and gums, kind of diet, improper brushing / cleaning of mouth etc. I would advise you to get a thorough physical and dental examination to rule out the cause of bad breath and to solve it permanently. Regards

Mouth ulcers are due to vitamin deficiency or bad digestion. So take vitamin supplements like becosules tablets till complete recovery. Local ointment application will be also useful. Avoid oilly n spicy food completely. Eat healthy and balanced diet.

My Uncle aged 51 Years has bad smell from mouth. His 3 back Teeth also pain a lot 1 has been removed. Dr. Says the Teeth will be removed naturally. Please suggest something for pain as he can't eat properly and for bad smell frm his mouth. You can't even sit next to him. Thanks a lot for the help.

MDS - Periodontics, BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
You shouldn't wait for the teeth to fall. If its infected and cannot be saved it has to be removed. Teeth do not fall off naturally. They get mobile or fall off in case of a disease. Losing teeth is not physiology. Its a pathology. Nature is meant for u to use your teeth for life. For the bad smell there can be multiple reason. Inside the mouth it can be due to those hurting teeth which has infection. Or deposits on ur teeth or caries. There can also be certain medical conditiins causing bad smell. He needs to be reviewed by a dentist for the solution..

Actually I have a daughter of 1 and half years her teeth is coming now and from growing of the teeth she is getting a problem of gastric and she beating her milk or did latrine after 2 minutes of drinking?

MDS Pedodontics
Dentist, Mangalore
During Teething( when tooth is coming out) its common to have irritation in the gumpads.. Children usually put their fingers or other household things into their mouth, which can cause gastric irritation if its not clean.. Allow d child to bite on hard n clean vegetable or fruit( preferably cold) it helps the teeth to come out soon..

Don’t smoke or use smokeless tobacco. Tobacco stains teeth and significantly increases the risk of gum disease and oral cancer. If you smoke or use chewing tobacco, consider quitting. Counsel your kids not to start.

5 Foods that Ruin Your TEETH Without Your Knowledge, Every Day!

5 foods you didn't know were ruining your teeth

Brushing is not the only way to keep your teeth free from damage. To have perfectly healthy and sparkly teeth, you should avoid certain foods as well, especially those high in sugar and acid content.

Fruits rich in sucrose (such as cherries, mangoes and pears) are like food to the bacteria in your mouth. These bacteria give rise to plaque build-up; and produce lactic acid, which causes the erosion of your tooth enamel.

As for foods containing acid (like meat, cashew nuts and peanuts), their acidic content is chiefly responsible for tooth decay. In fact, these foods eat away at your enamel and cause your teeth to chip and break.

Which are the foods that spell danger for your teeth?

1. Apples: sadly, an apple a day doesn't keep the dentist away. Apples have high acidic content and are very harsh on your enamel. Remember to rinse your mouth thoroughly with water just after having apples.

2. Pickles: pickles are either made of sugar or vinegar and can be sweet and sour, depending on what's used. While the vegetables and fruits used in these pickles may do you good, it's the brine that brings about tooth decay. Make sure to brush your teeth after an hour of having pickles to prevent any sort of damage.

3. Bread: processed white bread that you have at breakfast every morning is loaded with sugar. It's quite sticky as well and easily gets lodged between your teeth, giving rise to cavities.

4. Popcorn: working in the same way as bread, popcorn can get easily stuck in the lines between your teeth, leading to a rise in the level of bacteria in your mouth. You can indulge yourself in a bit of popcorn as long as you floss and brush after an hour or two of eating it.

5. Diet sodas: just because sodas contain no added sugar doesn't mean they are healthy for your teeth. The acidity of diet sodas is very high, making it one of the worst things out there for your teeth. The only thing you can do is to cut down your consumption of diet sodas.

Hello, I am 34 y old male and I have a dry mouth for last 4 months. When I drink water after 30 minute I need to water. What should I do

BDS, Non-Resident J.R. in Dept. of Orthodontics, Certified oral implantologist, Advanced Aesthetics, Digital Smile Designer
Dentist, Jammu
There are many causes of dry mouth. Dry mouth most commonly occurs as a side effect of medications that cause decrease saliva production, including blood pressure medications, antihistamines, antidepressants, diuretics, non steroidal anti-inflammatory, and many others. Other causes of dry mouth are radiation treatments to treat cancerous tumors of the head and neck, salivary gland diseases, diabetes, hormonal imbalance, mouth breathing, sleep apnea, and autoimmune disorders such as sjgren' s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. Eating disorders, such as bulimia and anorexia, are other risk factors for developing xerostomia. Salivary production can be decreased if a major salivary duct becomes blocked, such as from a stone or infection. Dry mouth will often occur during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to dehydration and hormonal changes. Other causative factors include stress, anxiety, depression, and dehydration. Please tell me your cause and then we can proceed for the treatment. Meanwhile, restricting caffeine intake and letting ice melt in the mouth will help the mouth remain as moist as possible. Other remedies include medications that help increase salivary flow such as pilocarpine (salagen) and cevimeline (evoxac). Artificial saliva substitutes are alsoa good help for you.

I have bleeding gums. It gives a bad smell when I speak. A doctor told I'm brushing hard and no problem with my gums. Now I'm using my fingers and some herbal powder with salt for brushing.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with surgical, gum strengthening procedure. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash after every meals. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

My kid is 2 years old, she had fallen down now the teeth is paining and she is feeling fever can you suggest the remedy for that problem. Some of my relative given me the solution like just take antibiotic and fever syrups for three days it will be solved. And those teeth are going to be black now.

MDS Prosthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Dehradun
Dear Lybrate user, Please visit your dentist at the earliest. The child needs to be examined immediately for injury and infection. Taking medicines on your own is not a healthy practice. If the teeth have turned black, you need immediate appointment with a dentist.

Salivary glands shrink with age producing less saliva,a natural antimicrobial that helps prevent decay, hence chew a sugarfree gum regularly to stimulate production of saliva.

We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning, root canal treatment & capping. Until then apply clove oil on the decayed tooth. Rinse frequently with mouth wash.
