I've a very bad memory issue. I can't even recall a word that I read just before few seconds. I really worried about my future, since i've completed graduation and soon going to do job. Also I'm preparing for competitive exams. What's the use if I prepared everything and can't recall anything. Please help me out in this regard.

Dear lybrate user, this happens when u r too anxious about exams or u r not focusing well. Study when ur mind is fresh, rehearsing is important. After reading a stanza think over it and picturize d concept in ur mind. Dont just go on reading go to d roots, to d concept. Draw notes. Do yoga and meditation daily Take good sleep Take balanced diet. Those were some tips to memorise, follow those well and consult privately for homoeopathic treatment.

Hello Doctor, I am 23 years Old and I am a ca final student not able to give my exams due to this mental illness From past 16 months I am suffering from bad anxiety and depression but from past week my thoughts getting changed everyday earlier I was getting that everyone is talking about me or wants to kill me now I am getting that I want to kill others or I want to do some violative act or want to kill or hurt myself. Well yesterday I went to the psychiatrist and he has diagnosed me with OCD and prescribed me Paxidep CR 12.5 once in a day, Clonazepam 0.50 Mg 1 and half tablet a day and risperidone 2 mg Half medicine in the night I have start taking other medicines except risperidone as it is a anti psychotic Now please can you tell me what symptoms I am going through and should I take risperidone.

Hello Doctor, I am 23 years Old and I am a ca final student not able to give my exams due to this mental illness From...
Hi, Thanks for writing in, welcome to the forum. Let us look at your scenario systematically. First, what is the likely diagnosis? It is difficult to say with the limited information available, but if one were to conclude with this information, I would agree with the diagnosis that was assigned to you (OCD). Your doctor is not using risperidone as an antipsychotic here, but as an augmenting agent. The dose of risperidone is on the lower side and that further confirms his intentions. The use of risperidone when there is unsatisfactory improvement with an SSRI is well known and proven beyond doubt. But the question here is whether we can just have improvement with an appropriate dose of paxidep alone or not. The only way to get to know that is to try it without the risperidone with appropriate dose adjustments from time to time. A call regarding risperidone can be taken after a few weeks of treatment along these lines. Please understand that all of the above suggestions are for your information only and I have no intention to question or interfere with your doctor's line of treatment. Also, since I have not seen you, I am assuming that the diagnosis of OCD is accurate and you have previously not taken medicines for the same or previously did not have any psychiatric ailments. A number of psychiatric terms, diagnoses and medication classes are deceptively similar to words used in general english. For example the word obsession as used in english and as used in psychiatry are completely different. Similarly, a medicine that is called an antidepressant or an antipsychotic is not simply a medicine to be given in depression and psychosis only, but depending upon the dose and other medicines being used alongside, can have vastly different effects and can be used in many different conditions. For example, a medicine such as propranolol, depending upon the dose and formulation can be used in the treatment of migraine, BP, anxiety, heart disease, intra-abdominal bleeds, aggression and so on. So stay away from a simplistic interpretation of what a medicine is for and clarify with the doctor. Take care!

This is a compulsive behavior and comes from a nervous disposition where fear plays a very important role. This fear may have its roots from childhood depending on how long and how intense the problem is. It is intense is clear and so do check with your parents about your developmental history to locate where exactly the fear originated. Then equipped with this meet with a counselor and if that person recommends you meet with a doctor you will need to do so too. The primary goal is to help you handle the fear, and help you express your fear in appropriate ways. You can in the meantime use a simple measure to prevent the problem but not necessarily to solve it: wear woolen gloves and they will not provide you any grip to pull out the hair. You are in control of your hand: it does not go to the moustache on its own. Take one day at a time and reward yourself every day you succeed.

I am 22 years old I have problem, my mind and body is not concentrating in one thing. So what should I do to improve concentration and reason for this symptom?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Stress could be the reason for whi9chy you could meet with a counselor. In the meantime do some of these recommendations very faithfully: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem-solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning, at least, five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position, you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There is some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

Dear lybrate-user, alcohol is not the only solution for anxiety and to face winter. There are more options for anxiety - may be a relaxation exercise or yoga or cognitive behaviour therapy or anxiolytic drug for a short time. Think of each alternative with its advantages and disadvantages. Better you write them down. The same exercise for warming up in winter. Many options and each one's advantages and disadvantages. After this exercise, if you decide to stop using alcohol, if you can not practice it, please consult online.

You eat things from these 10 food groups: •Green leafy vegetables (like spinach and salad greens): At least six servings a week •Other vegetables: At least one a day •Nuts: Five servings a week •Berries: Two or more servings a week •Beans: At least three servings a week •Whole grains: Three or more servings a day •Fish: Once a week •Poultry (like chicken or turkey): Two times a week •Olive oil: Use it as your main cooking oil. •Wine: One glass a day You avoid: •Red meat: Less than four servings a week •Butter and margarine: Less than a tablespoon daily •Cheese: Less than one serving a week •Pastries and sweets: Less than five servings a week •Fried or fast food: Less than one serving a week.

Dear, I don't see the risk of amnesia in you at this age. Have you met with any accident or trauma? are you diagnosed with anxiety disorder or depression? busy and anxious people do forget many things, that does not mean they have amnesia. Therefore, usually, busy people keep everything in writing or appoint a personal assistant to help them out. Stress is also another factor behind forgetting. People also forget things which they feel unimportant. Therefore, I think, you do not have anything to worry. Still, if you insist, I can run a series of memory related tests to assess your memory. First screening test will be through mobile. Let me know if you are willing. Take care.

Hi antibiotics cannot cause mental problems. Be positive and think positively. Hi I will prescribe some harmless but effective flower remedy available in homoeopathy shops. Try to buy original medicines. Mix 3 drops of pine + 3 drops of gentian + 3 drops of willow + 3 drops of scleranthus. Mix these with 100 ml water and drink it every morning and night.

1.Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2.Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3.Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5. Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications or prescription for medicines consult me on this site to ask me directly and not in open questions session It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all.

Depression is cured. But now you are suffering with depressive thoughts. It is a psychological feeling of impotency. If you can recover yourself. Otherwise better to consult psychologist. Psychological counselling is helpful to change the thought process. You need behavioural modification therapy and life style management. Better to maintain friendly relation with your wife. Do not think too much about sex. Give priority for foreplay. Slowly you will achieve it. It is better to play main role of your wife. Encourage her she will cooperate to you. Do not use any medicine. Once you take it may be addicted to you. Without medicine you cannt do anything. Better to attend to psychological counselling sessions in delhi. Do not think too much about this problem. Do not maintain aloneness. It is a psychological feeling. You will come out of the problem. Be share your personal feelings and problems with your close friends and family members. Be sociable all the time and be happy. Ok all the best.

Strategies for Remembering 1. Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2. Find a way to leverage your visual memory. You'll be surprised by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3. Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts ("leaves") should be logical.. 4. Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. 5. When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6. Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a "morning person" or "evening person" at least one Study. suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study—afternoon appearing to be the best. 7. Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night after you've studied but the day, you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Brown sugar addiction comes under SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND ADDICTION. Deaddiction treatment is best suited for such addictions. Medically assisted drug detoxification or alcohol detoxification alone is ineffective as a treatment for addiction. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) recommends detoxification followed by both medication (where applicable) and behavioral therapy, followed by relapse prevention.
