My baby tended to look to the left and her head has become flat on left. Now she only wants to sleep on his right side and cries while I sleep her on her back. She is also uncomfortable in lap. Will it cause problems for her when she grows up. If yes what to do to correct the problem.

Let the baby sleep which ever way she is comfortable. Need not force to sleep in a particular position. It won't effect in any way later on. The shape of the head will also get corrected by itself as the baby grows.

Is it possible in case of lactating mother that she is producing milk but doesn't get single drop on pump? If yes what's the reason behind that?

Hydrocele in Children - Can it Be Treated?

Hydrocele in Children - Can it Be Treated?

Sometimes, the groin and scrotum swell due to the buildup of water like fluid in one or both the testicles. This is known as hydrocele. This condition is not at all painful, but can be uncomfortable at times. In newborn babies, there is an opening between the abdomen and the scrotum; it naturally closes with the passage of time, therefore it’s generally nothing to worry about.

Symptoms of hydrocele:

  1. Scrotum can get enlarged at times

  2. Swelling and redness are common in hydrocele

  3. Also, pressure can be felt at the base of your child’s penis

  4. Pain doesn’t normally occur but in some cases, might occur as your child gets older

How does in occur in babies?

When you are in the last stage of your pregnancy, the baby’s testicles descend from its abdomen to the scrotum. So the fluid in the sac stays within the scrotum and the opening closes naturally after some time.

Can it be treated?

This condition is not usually hazardous to health and is treated usually, if there is immense pain. It can also cut out the blood supply; in this case, it has to be treated as soon as possible. If your child experiences such symptoms, you should take him to a doctor for a physical examination. During this examination, the doctor will shine light near the scrotum.

If it appears as a solid mass, then the assumption is that there is no watery fluid; hence, hydrocele has not occurred. There is a procedure in which the hydrocele is burst open with a small needle, but sometimes, it might relapse. In such a case, surgery is the only reliable option. These symptoms can also persist if your child is diagnosed with hernia. Hence, in such a situation, a surgery would solve both the conditions. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an urologist and ask a free question.

Head normal temp can not be defined. It may be warm on touch which is normal so sweating for some babies. If you suspect fever by touching head, measure temp by thermometer which is right way to assess fever.

Hello, I have 3 years Kid, just wanted to check with you about what is the best nutrition for him. Also please advice on best heath drink.

Hello, I have 3 years Kid, just wanted to check with you about what is the best nutrition for him. Also please advice...
Hello lybrate-user, Brain development in humans takes place at the age of 2 to 5 yrs, after this even though you keep on providing and adding nutrients in diet for brain development will not pay way for it. Basically the main key is DHA. Best is to give your kid natural sources like milk, paneer, chenna, fruits and vegetables, pulses, eggs and fish (if non-vegetarian). Also another thing should be kept in mind the kid's food habits grow from this stage of life. So if now you make sure you are providing you kid a health diet then possibility is this that your kid will have healthy food choises later in future. Now question arises where can you fin DHA, we come across many advertisements about DHA health drinks, am not sure about their fulfilment, but milk (cow milk a lil diluted), eggs (best boiled & poached), fish protein (rohu, bhetki, pomfet, katla, talapia), fruits (mango, papaya, chiku, kiwis, apple, grapes, pomegrate, bananas), and at last but not the least coconut water will surely guarantee its fulfilment! I hope this will be helpful to you. Thank you. Have a nice day!

I am breastfeeding mom bt I think my breast milk is not enough for my baby what to do?

MD Pediatrics
Pediatrician, Vadodara
When the baby is breastfeeding and after few days something around 15 days to be minimum if the baby is gaining good or adequate weight gain then be rest assured. Also if the baby passes 6-7 times urine per day sleeps after taking feeds then you don't have to worry. Kindly speak with your pediatrician to know more. In the initial months of life 15 to 20 grams per day weight gain is good enough after that your doctor will tell you what is the expected weight gain required for the baby.

High fever is usually due to viral infection. It takes 3 to 4 days to settle down. Give paracetamol suspension 15mg per kg whenever there is fever which can be repeated once in 4 to 6 hours.
