Dear lybrate-user, I appreciate your move of smoking. When you leave any of the substance immediately after a long term use, you get withdrawal symptoms. Irritability, aggression, sleep disturbance, low mood are some of the common symptoms. These will go with time. Duration depends on the amount of nicotine you were taking. You may consult your doctor for nicotine skin patches or other nicotine replacement methods. Hope this will help. Regards, Vibha.

As you have mentioned your mother have depressive features. I assume that you might be having little clear picture of what depressive symptoms are. Those symptoms might be leading to interpersonal issues between your parents. I will suggest you to see a psychologist concerning these issues. Feel free to consult. Regards.

First of all, I am sorry for you loss. As other professionals said, grief after the loss of someone close to you is common. It heals with time. But here in your case. The duration is being quite long. Sometime we need to vent it out. Whatever is there deep inside our heart. The thing that is unconsiously stopping us to come out of the sadness. I know it takes alot to be in that phase. I advice you to please consult a mental health professional. Along with him/her. You can work with your problem. Its just a phase of life. I know you will surely get out of it.

M 20 years old. M in a relationship from v long time. Before my bf used to smoke weed n drink a lot. I used to cry a lot for the same. It's been 2 months he left everything. Now from 3 days he has again started smoking weed. N behaves even worse. I cry I plead in front of him. But he gets irritated. Doesn't have time for me. He says he loves m. But he has become so stubborn behaves so stubborn. Even if I beg him nothing affects him. Wot should I do.

Dear lybrate-user, I can see you are concern for your love one. But always crying and begging not gonna work for people who have addiction for any kond of drugs. I appreciate your friend's effort also that he tried to quite it. Relationship is about supporting each other. Try to know the root or the reason why he started again consuming cannabis. Cannabis or any addiction can take time to cure. Support him in every way possibe. Try to look in to the problem from his prespective also. And most of that. Stay strong. I know you will do better for both of you.

Hello! I'm a 19 year old guy and have started to smoke from the last 8 months. I spend a lot of money in cigarettes and therefore I want to quit! What shall I do to stop smoking?

M.A psychology
Psychologist, Lucknow
Dear lybrate-user, its good that you realised that addiction is way to monetry loss also. And at this young age these addictions are common. First try yourself to quit it. But not suddenly. As your body will crave for nicotine as it will need its dosage. So better slowly lessen your intake. If you are taking 10cigs a day. Reduce the no. To 6-7. When ever you go to buy the cig. Think once what can be the other things you can do apart from this.

Dear lybrate-user, I can understand how you must be feeling after your lose, but the thing that happend in past can not be changed now. I am sure you must have tried your best to find it. Its okie to feel sad for sometime. But if this sadness will continue it will affect your work and life in future. The money gone can not be back, but you can earn more money by staying fit. Give yourself a onther, but postive view to the problem. If possible contact your nearby psychologist. Hope you get well soon.
