General Physician,
I have headache always and I could nt sleep even when I feel sleepy and that leads to spoil my day. Wat it could be ?...
A young male of age 28 Years having headache is amazing. Try to find out the cause and remove it e.g. Irregular imbalanced diet and sleep habits, any stressful and mentally disturbing worries and /or any addiction must be eliminated. Try regular light exercises. Still if you insist some medications can be prescribed. But in my opinion if it is cluster headache or tension headache, you must consult and have a good counseling session with a physician. Regards.

Chest Pain - Can Homeopathy Help You Treat it?

Chest pain is a common problem that most people experience. Chest pain can signal anything from a muscle cramp to even an impending heart attack. You should never ignore symptoms of chest pain as it can signal a serious underlying disorder. The details about chest pain are not described here as it is beyond the scope of this article. The focus is on various homeopathic remedies to treat symptoms of chest pain.

Why homeopathy?
Homeopathy is an alternative system of medicine that was started in the year 1796, by Samuel Hahnemann. It is based on the premise that the substance that causes a disorder, if introduced in the right quantity in the body, will cure the same disease. Compared to mainstream medicine, homeopathy products are not synthetic and are free from any side effect.
Homeopathic remedies for chest pain:

The homeopathic remedies that are given below not only treat pain effectively, but also get rid of the actual cause of the pain. The best thing about these remedies is that they are completely free from any side effect, whatsoever. The various homeopathic remedies for chest pain are:

  1. Rhus Tox: This remedy is effective in treating pain that spreads to the shoulders from the chest; these symptoms tend to worsen in damp and cold weather.
  2. Arnica Mont: If you experience chest pain along with soreness in the body, this remedy is prescribed.
  3. Ranunculus B: In case of intercostal rheumatism wherein you experience pain in the muscle between the ribs, this remedy is usually recommended by the practitioner.
  4. Kali carb: Kali carb is used to treat stitching pain in the chest that worsens during the early hours of the morning.
  5. Rumex C: This remedy is used to treat pain that develops in the left lung, followed by coughing.
  6. Bryonia: For a stabbing or a burning chest pain that worsens when you move, Bryonia is considered to be the appropriate remedy.
  7. Phosphorus: This remedy is recommended when you experience heavy coughing and chest pain caused by pneumonia or tuberculosis.
  8. Carbo-veg: Carbo-veg is used to treat chest pain resulting from acidity, gas and indigestion.
  9. Robinia: This remedy is used to treat symptoms of chest pain that originates from behind the sternum (breastbone) as a result of acidity.

Joint Pain - How Panchkarma Therapies Can Help You?

Joint Pain - How Panchkarma Therapies Can Help You?

Joint pain is considered to be one of the first few signs of aging. According to the science of Ayurveda, joint pain is triggered mainly by an accumulation of toxins in the body. These toxins can create an imbalance in the doshas which in turn can cause pain and inflammation on the joints. Along with joint pain, a person is likely to experience a loss of flexibility, weakness, tenderness and enlargement of the joints.

Unlike some popular forms of medication that focus on relieving the pain, Ayurveda addresses the root cause of the issue. Panchkarma aims at cleansing the body of toxins and clearing blockages in the body’s digestive and circulatory system. This helps the vatta dosha flow easily through the body and reduces pain associated with arthritis etc. Panchkarma can be defined as a collection of five ayurvedic techniques. These are:

  1. Vasti or Medicated Enema: Vasti aims at removing toxins and waste products from the body through the colon. In doing this, it cleanses the digestive channels and improves circulation of air or the vatta dosha in the body. With better circulation, joint pain is effectively reduced. An enema also nourishes the body and gives it the strength to rebuild tissues while boosting the immune system.
  2. Abhyanga or Full Body Massage: This technique helps I the removal of toxins from deep tissues within the body. It pacifies the vatta and nourishes the body while simultaneously reducing stress and enabling better quality sleep. A full body massage also helps calm the body both physically and mentally.
  3. Potli or Poultice Massage: As the name suggests, a potli involves massaging the body with medicated herbs tied together in a tiny bundle that has been warmed with medicated oils. This potli is then used to massage the entire body. This technique helps relax the muscles of the body and soothes the aggravated vatta dosha. It is very effective when it comes to providing relief from joint pains caused by arthritis, spondylitis, muscle cramps etc.
  4. Pizhichil or Rich Oil Massage: A rich oil massage involves subjecting the body to streams of lukewarm oil that has medicinal properties while simultaneously softly massaging the body. This type of massage helps relieve tension and stress and is a very effective remedy against joint pains. It is highly recommended in the case of rheumatic diseases.
  5. Svedana or Steam Bath: A steam bath helps cleanse the body both physically and mentally by aiding in the removal of toxins through sweat and calming the mind. It also helps soften the muscles and tissues and dilates the channels in the body.

Knee Replacement Surgery - Pain and Recovery

Knee Replacement Surgery - Pain and Recovery

Most of us may not be aware, but the knee is the largest joint in the human body and contributes the maximum to a person’s physical movement from one place to another. The knees play a significant role in a variety of movements including squatting, supporting the weight, running, kneeling, sitting, etc.

Whether it is a severe accident, osteoarthritis that set in with age, or other reasons, the result could be stiff, painful knees. The first line of treatment would be exercise, physiotherapy, and medications. However, if these do not work, then surgical treatment is the choice. Though usually it is reserved for people over the age of 50, there could be exceptions.

Given the number of functions it is involved in, when a serious procedure like knee replacement is being considered, the pain that the person would go through and the recovery time are two important parameters to address. It is best that the patient has a detailed discussion with the doctor and gets all doubts clarified. This will help both the patient and the doctor have realistic and practical expectations about what to expect after the surgery.

So, when pain and stiffness make knee replacement inevitable, prepare for it. The following sequence outlines what happens right from surgery to recovery.

  1. Under general anesthesia, the damaged portion of the knee is removed, and a prosthesis (metal or plastic) is used to replace the removed portion.

  2. Hospital stay can range from 3 to 5 days.

  3. In about a month, the patient will have remarkable recovery, with almost no pain.

  4. Though not advisable, most patients would be able to stand and do basic movement on the day of surgery.

  5. Begin walking with the support of parallel bars and continue using cane/walker/crutches for the first few days to avoid overload on the knees.

  6. With proper support, walking is possible in 3 to 5 days. Continue using a cane for the next few weeks to strengthen the knee.

  7. Schedule a postoperative visit in the 4th to 6th week after surgery.

  8. Draw up an exercise routine with your physiotherapist.

  9. Ice pack can be applied to control swelling.

  10. Driving should be possible, once you are off pain medications, as these can make you drowsy.

  11. Blood clot in the surgical site causing a bruise will disappear in a couple of weeks.

  12. Knee replacement is almost magical as in the long run (10 years postoperatively), there is a good 98% chances of success.

Having said this, it is important to remember each person responds differently to the procedure and therefore treatment/rehabilitation is completely personalized.
