My daughter is 2 and half months now. She is. Passing stools from last two weeks in a watery way. And it happens as soon as I feed her. Coming along with a fart. She is only on breast feeding. She s not sleeping in the day time after this. Am not eating anything from outside. Only diet from home. Kindly guide.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
Some babies pass stools soon after feeding. It is called as exaggerated gastrocolic reflex. If the hydration is normal you can ignore. Babies will not develop diarrhoea if they are only on breastmilk.

They could be allergic or have low immunity. Healthy diet is essential for improving the immunity. Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds, which will provide your body with the nutrients. Avoid allergans eg- dust, smoke, pollution. Hope this helps u.

She is breast feeding now and 6 months have passed she is 32c size of breast What happens if she stops breast feeding her child and stores tht milk in her breast only.

MBBS, MD
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
Six months on breast milk is insufficient for growing child. In almost 75% case. So we recommend six hrly breast feeds. Milk stored in breast it self is never sore or unhygienic.

What is link between calcium deficiency and new born child? Describe about calcium deficiency in a new born child?
First of all why do think a newborn is deficient in calcium which does not happen normally. Babies exhibit several symptoms while suffering from calcium deficiency, which include: Insomnia Muscle Cramps Muscle aches Jitteriness Tremors Twitchiness Jerking movements of limbs Lowered heart rate Seizures, due to a reduction in oxygen supply to the brain Convulsions Low calcium levels can cause low blood pressure in your baby Tongue-thrusting, tongue and lip twitching, eye fluttering, etc.

My son's age is 5. He has dust allergy normally he starts to cough a lot but in india doctor used to give Allegra and it used to work. Last 5 months back shifted to London. For the last 15 days onwards, he is constantly coughing but very less during the night time but the coughing increases after having any food or milk. The doctors are saying the chest is clear and has given ventilin evohaler.

MD - Pulmonary, DTCD
Pulmonologist, Faridabad
As the chest is clear and ventilin evohaler is not showing benifit, you can try allegra surup again. As the cough is after feed, every care should be taken that child is not aspirating during feed, which can occur if feed taken in hurry or in faulty posture.

Is Your Child Suffering From Rickets? 3 Ways To Deal With It!

MBBS, MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Jaipur
Is Your Child Suffering From Rickets? 3 Ways To Deal With It!

A nutritional disorder, the problem of rickets occurs if your child suffers from a deficiency of calcium, phosphate or Vitamin D. It causes softened and damaged bones, skeletal deformities, impaired development of the bone's growth plate (a spot of growing tissue found near the end of a long bone in adolescents and children) and stunted growth.

Here are few very simple ways you can prevent your child from getting it:

1. Having Vitamin D and calcium rich foods - One of the best ways to prevent this nutritional disorder from affecting your child is by making sure he or she have foods that are high in Vitamin D and calcium. Egg yolks, fish oil or fatty fish like salmon and mackerel are some of the Vitamin D foods that your child can have to strengthen his bones. Even foods that have Vitamin D added to it such as cereals, orange juice, milk and infant formula can also be given to your child. Sources of calcium can be soyabeans, nuts, broccoli, cabbage, cheese and yoghurt.

2. Going out in the sun - Considered to be an excellent source of Vitamin D, getting your child exposed to sunlight is another excellent way of getting most of this nutrient, as well as preventing him or her from developing rickets. Although the exposure time may vary from individual to individual, about 10-15 minutes of sun exposure without sunscreen can help.

3. Having Vitamin D supplements - Even the consumption of Vitamin D supplements can reduce your child's risk of getting rickets. Since mother's milk contains less than the recommended Vitamin D amount, infants too need to be put on Vitamin D supplements of 400 IU each day. For teenagers and young children, the recommended dosage is 600 IU of Vitamin D every day. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a pediatrician.
