Decayed Missing Filled Teeth (DMFT index)

Dmft is a simple index tool for your dentist to follow and it is very easy to understand by the common patients too.
It is basically a summary of your oral health in a quick way.
It is to observe the number of teeth that are either decayed that is carious or having any periodontal or perapical pathology leading to the discomfort.

To observe how many teeth are missing.
To observe how many teeth are filled or restored.
This will give you an idea about the basic condition of your oral health
It is simple to get checked so visit your dentist today and ask for it.

Right now I’ve done filling in my left upper 2nd & 3rd last teeth and doctor said to me it’s needed to do ‘root canal’ so, my question is how many days/months we can hold and after do it this treatment? Because doctor said to me it’s really needed.

Thanks for the query As you mentioned you got fillings done recently and if you are comfortable and fine and don't have any painkiller than no need for RCT. But if you still have pain or discomfort than better go for RCT. Sometime after filling teeth might not trouble for longer period. So my advice to you is if it pains than go for RCT.

Saving your Child's teeth Series : 3

Most of the children have decay today of their milk teeth. Sometimes, it is a very painful experience for the child and traumatic for the parents to see their child go through that pain and discomfort at that age. Do remember if your child's milk tooth or teeth are decayed - it will result in 2 problems later on:
a. Irregular teeth - which would require braces treatment later - possibly with extraction of few permanent teeth.
b. Decay on the permanent teeth - which erupt between 6 to 14 years of age.

So saving milk teeth is very important. Never breast feed or milk feed your child during passage to sleep or during sleep - AFTER 18 MONTHS of age.

In case of decay always get the same treated at the early stage than when the decay has destroyed the tooth badly. Always better to have a dental check up by 1st BIRTHDAY of the child.

Please help for bad breath. I brush properly but I have persistent cough through out the year. In the morning I gargle with hot water to get rid of cough. But bad breath still persist.

Dentist, Bangalore
Hi lybrate-user, Bad breath is the most common problem now a days. Get scaling and polishing done once and also every time after eating some thing take a dental floss and remove the food particles impacted in between the teeth. Also check out whether you have any deep cavities becoz sometimes food gets impacted in deep cavities may also causes bad breath. Brush your teeth twice daily and use a mouth wash for gargling If still your problem persists check you have any digestion problem.

Hi, for the past 3-4 months I've had a white/yellowish coating on my tongue that doesn't go away even after brushing twice a day and scraping it with a tongue scraper multiple times a day. I even used Betadine gargles for 3 days and took Fluconazole for a week, but it didn't help. It keeps resurfacing and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I've been traveling for a shoot for the past few months in villages and haven't been eating properly, so have lost weight and my immunity has probably been affected by that as well as I had a cough that lasted almost 20 days. Would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Hi, for the past 3-4 months I've had a white/yellowish coating on my tongue that doesn't go away even after brushing ...
Black hairy or furry tongue or yellow furry tongue: This is caused by dead skin and food buildup, and occurs commonly when the papillae become enlarged, swollen, or rough. When this buildup is paired with bacteria or yeast, it can cause the tongue to look yellow or black and hairy.White tongue is the result of an overgrowth and swelling of the fingerlike projections (papillae) on the surface of your tongue. The appearance of a white coating is caused by debris, bacteria and dead cells getting lodged between the enlarged and sometimes inflamed papillae.

I need to transplant two artificial teeth. Could you please intimate the required cost for doing the same.

I need to transplant two artificial teeth. Could you please intimate the required cost for doing the same.
I presume by transplantation you mean Dental Implants. They come in a variety of brands, shapes and sizes. A normal Israeli Dental Implant will cost you somewhere between 28,000-38,000 INR (add 4000-8000 INR more for the Crown) per tooth. The European and American Dental Implants will range between 45,000-70,000 INR) per implant. Crowns (caps!) cost separately depending upon their material and warranty.
