Causes of knee pain may be falls, fractures or conditions like Osteoarthritis causing degeneration of bones in knee joint.
Symptoms associated with knee pain may be difficulty in movement, swelling of knee joint, difficulty to stand up after sitting and stiffness in knee joint.
Investigations helpful for diagnosis are blood tests, X ray and other radiological tests.
In Ayurveda, Sandhivata causes knee pain.
Treatment aims to reduce symptoms and reduce weight of the body to decrease work load of knee joint which bears the body weight always.
Patients are advised diet plans and simple exercises along with Ayurvedic medicines including oils.
Why applying oils is recommended?
Applying oils increases lubrication in the joints helps for movement, also reduces dryness created by Vata in joints.
Other therapies like Abhyanga, Kizhi and Janu Basti also are highly effective in knee pain cases.
I have pain balm, why my doctor tells me to apply oil for my pain?
This is a common question ayurveda doctors hear. Basically, pain is caused due to imbalance of vata dosha in the body, so to decrease the increased vata in the body, oil is said to be effective.
Vata is having cold and dry properties, in the body also it creates such a situation. So the taila or the oil has in it naturally the oilyness which moisturize and nourish the body especially in joint pain. Lubrication created by the oil helps the body become flexible too.
So it is advisable to apply oil than applying general balms for every pain.
The word pathya itself means that which is beneficial for the body.
Pathya includes beneficial diet and lifestyle changes including improving physique and psyche.
Eg, in cases of knee joint pain, losing excess body weight and avoiding excessive weight lifting is advised. This is a lifestyle change, whereas in acidity cases, intake of hot, sour, salty, spicy food is prohibited, which is a dietary change.
Not only Ayurveda, whatever advices regarding the health of the patient are given in any medical science which proves to be beneficial for the patient is pathya in a broader sense.
So, take pathyas as positive advice for getting faster relief from the diseases rather than thinking them to be restrictions in food only.
During the first trimester, you may feel nausea, dizziness, mental and physical fatigue.
Second trimester may accompany burning sensation, flatulence and back pain.
Third trimester will bring some more tension and pain to muscles sometimes.
For all ailments, maha dhanwantaram tab twice a day after food is good.
Bala kseera kasaya is also good until the third trimester.
Above all, positive attitude and mindset will bring desired results.
Mantras like sudarsana mantra are likely to benefit a lot even to decrease stress levels.
Diet should be rich in iron, calcium, folic acid.
Green leafy vegetables, milk, ghee, curd helps a lot.
Greetings Dr. This question is for my daughter in law, 39, 68 kgs. Who slipped on watery floor and fell down with one leg forward and one leg backward and was diagnosed as ACL tear issue. ortho advised surgery but Ayurvedic doctors advised oil massage and some medicines. Pain is under control, able to walk but with care, able to climb stairs once or twice a day slowly. Please Advise for better mobility and trouble free management and life. Thanks.

Maintain healthy weight and lifestyle, adopt meditation and yoga along with the diet rich in green leafy vegetables, fiber-rich fruits.
Care more your body especially drinking more water to help kidneys and eyes, breathe fresh air in pollution free environment at least two days weekly. Can go for jogging daily or a half an hour walk.
