Hysterectomy Surgery - Know the After Affects!

What is a hysterectomy?

This is a surgery that is used to remove the ovaries or even the uterus. This surgery is usually conducted in order to deal with the extreme conditions that may be caused by the severe onset of various conditions related to the reproductive system of women. Read on to find out why this surgery carried out and what are the after effects?

Causes: This surgery can be carried out for a variety of reasons. One of the main reason is the manifestation of uterine fibroids that can cause severe pain and bleeding. These fibroids will have to be removed surgically and in case they have spread, the uterus will have to be removed entirely. Also, if the condition has spread to the ovaries, it may be imperative to remove the ovaries as well. Furthermore, if the patient is suffering from endometriosis, where the tissue has spread too much and cannot be contained merely by medication or other forms of treatment, then the doctor will have to conduct a hysterectomy surgery in order to remove the affected areas of the reproductive area. Also, other conditions for which this surgery may be required include adenomyosis, chronic pain in the pelvic area, cancer of the uterus, cervical cancer and uterine prolapse.

Procedure: A hysterectomy is performed under anesthesia, and the doctor makes a five to seven inch incision in the abdomen for an open surgery. The doctor will then continue to remove the uterus through this incision. Also, usually, the patient will have to spend about three to four days in the hospital following this surgery. A vaginal hysterectomy may also be conducted for certain cases, depending on the type and severity of the condition that has led to this form of treatment. For this kind of surgery, the incisions will be made in the vaginal area.

After effects: Starting from hormonal imbalances to early menopause, this surgery can leave significant after effects in its trail. The patients who have been through this surgery will be asked to abstain from heavy physical work that involves lifting heavy objects and bending. Also, the doctor will recommend abstinence from sex. One will have to avoid these things for a period of at least six weeks after the surgery. In many cases, the patient may also go through heavy menstrual bleeding.

Doctor visits: In case the bleeding and hot flashes are excessive, then the patient will have to consult a doctor and take further appointments so that the condition may not reoccur. Also, the doctor will usually prescribe supplements like vitamins, which must be taken on a regular basis after the surgery to avoid any complications at a later date.

if you have fungal itch, then home remedies wont work to cure it, for fungal itch I will prescribe a schedule of anti fungal cream and tabs which have to be strictly followed or the fungii may develop resistance and come back later once cured. Hence never self treat fungal itches with any self prescribed medicines or it may lead to resistance and lifelong itching problem. For temporary relief of itching, try these self-care measures: apply an anti-itch cream or lotion to the affected area as prescribed by me after I evaluate your skin condition. Avoid scratching whenever possible. Apply cool, wet compresses, then dry the area take a lukewarm bath atleast once in a day. Wear smooth-textured, loose cotton clothing. Prevent perspiration in the affected region, lots of fresh air will ease up the affected area do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

My skin at the back and front of the hands irritates at various places early in the morning, if i had spicy food or pickle in the evening. The skin has become thick on these spots, mostly at the points at joints or places where there is friction with other things. This problem is persisting for last 15 years.

Fellowship in dermatosurgery, MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy, MBBS
Dermatologist, Mumbai
It seems to be a problem due to constant itching and scratching leading to a condition called lichen simplex chronicus. The underlying cause is skin hypersensitivity. It needs to be treated with emollients and topical medications.

Hi lybrate-user, you already answered your query, yes perspiration and sun exposure is causing the redness and skin irritation. Here are few tips to help you personally. 1. Try to take bath as you get off from duty. 2. Eat lot of fruits and salad, this will fulfill your need for vitamins and nourishment of skin. 3. You can even use olive oil at bed time to sooth the skin when you are off. 4. Keep hydrated as you work in field your skin needs more water. 5. Try to wear 100% cotton cloths whenever on field. Still the problem persist feel free to ask more. Thanks.

Doctor I have oily skin so I have many pimples on my face and forehead. What should I do?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. There are four main factors which causes acne: Oil production Dead skin cells Clogged pores Bacteria Factors that may worsen the acne: Androgen hormones, certain medications (drugs containing corticosteroids, androgens or lithium can worsen acne), dietary factors, including dairy products and carbohydrate-rich foods — such as bread, bagels and chips — may trigger acne and Stress can make acne worse. Management: Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 20 days.

I suggest you go for laser hair reduction. With hair the darkness also reduces and then you can use skin lightening creams.
