PCOS- Causes and Symptoms

PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) is a common disease of the endocrine system among women who have attained the reproductive age. Women with this condition generally have ovaries larger in size than the usual, containing small pockets of fluids, also termed follicles. These 'follicles' develop in each of the ovaries as diagnosed with the help of an ultrasound exam. Abnormal or extended menstrual cycles, unusual growth of hair and obesity are some of the common accompanying conditions associated with PCOS. This disorder can interfere with a woman's menstrual cycles, thus making pregnancy difficult. More so, this condition can also impact the way you look and if left untreated for long, can lead to underlying disorders such as diabetes and other cardio vascular diseases.

Causes of PCOS:

  1. Excessive Insulin secretion: Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreas, which allows the body cells to utilize the sugar; the most important energy store of your body. If you suffer from insulin resistance, your body's ability to utilize the insulin gets affected adversely. This forces the pancreas to secrete more insulin in order to keep up with the body's energy supply. This excess insulin might result in an increase in the production of androgen, which in turn, might interfere with the ovulation ability of the ovaries.
  2. Low- level inflammation: Inflammation is the process by which your body's white blood cells fight infections. Studies reveal that women suffering from PCOS have a low level inflammation which acts as a catalyst in the production of androgens.
  3. Can be hereditary: If you have someone in your family suffering from this syndrome, you might automatically be at a higher risk of developing this disorder.

Symptoms accompanying PCOS:

  1. Abnormal menstrual is the most commonly observed symptom. Women suffering from PCOS may have less than nine periods in an entire year and in some cases, even none. 
  2. Excess secretion of male hormone, which is related to excess androgen production may result in symptoms, such as abnormal body and facial hair, acne and baldness, which is identical to that in men.
  3. Unexplained increase in weight and difficulty losing it as well.
  4. Another fairly noticeable symptom is depression.
  5. Infertility

Please follow the below recommendation for your condition: Diet, exercise, and behavioral modification should be included in all obesity management approaches for body mass index (BMI) of 25 kg/m 2 or higher. Other tools, such as pharmacotherapy for BMI of 27 kg/m 2 or higher with comorbidity or BMI over 30 kg/m2 and bariatric surgery for BMI of 35 kg/m2 with comorbidity or BMI over 40 kg/m 2, should be used as adjuncts to behavioral modification to reduce food intake and increase physical activity when this is possible. Many obese people are advised to follow a juice diet or the juice fast for a period of a week or so, so that they can shed the excess extra pounds faster. Health and nutrition experts advise people to consume fresh fruit or vegetable juice for obesity.

My mom she suffering from White Jaundice & medicine given is Omez, Advil, tab hepapanz, liv52. But she is getting very bad smell of water & cnt consume it. please help Age of the patient: 65 Years, Patient's gender: Female More details about the presenting complaint: Bad smell of water and she can not drink water & as per report blood level is low. And she is very weak now. Kindly suggest what to eat if she eat roti than unable to digest it becomes heavy for her. Her health is becoming weaker and weaker. Hello, to increase the intake of water you can give it as lemon water, put sabja seeds, mint leaves and little lemon, jeera powder and give this will change the taste of water and she will like it. Since her haemoglobin is low she can have dates, anjeer, jaggery, poha, bajra as kanji, watermelon. Instead of roti she can have khichadi, dal rice, daliya with curd. Banana, chickoo, mango, sitaphal are good for regenerating liver cells. All the best!

Weight gain is muscle gain and not fat gain. In your condition your energy requirement is very high so whatever you eat is used as a source of energy and you do not make muscle. To gain muscles you will have to eat at least 6 meals (high calorie) in a day at a regular interval with a proper ratio of proteins and carbohydrates. Proteins will help you gain body mass while carbohydrates will help you give energy. Protein foods are eggs, fish, chicken, milk and milk products, meat and dals. Carbohydrate foods are roti and rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes. You have to eat vegetables and fruits and use healthy and good fats for cooking like ghee, cold pressed mustrad or til oil. You will also have to do some weight training exercise to help you build mass into the body. Also drink enough water to keep you hydrated.

start doing surya namaskar daily in morning after that do Prithvi mudra for 20 minutes to gain weight, these 2 activities will give you amazing results, start eating cows milk with your every meal. keep your intestine clean by drinking atleast 3 to 4 liters water everyday, but make sure you dont drink water with your meals or after your meals, give a gap of 90 minutes and eat jaggery after your meals. eat 2 bananas with hot cows milk and put shakkar and 1 table spoon cow ghee in it, if you eat this for 3 months continuous you will gain weight upto 10 kgs naturally.

The result youll feel full longer and get a boost in energy and that will help you burn more belly fat.

At age 50,one must drink on an average one Drink /Day.Th consumption of this drink should be very slow ending anywhere between 15-45 Minutes One drink is equal to one of the following:  250 ML can or bottle of regular beer  100 ML can or bottle of malt liquor  60 ML glass of red or white wine 30 ML glass of hard liquor (spirits) like gin, vodka, or whiskey. Although tolerance effect of consuming alcohol remains almost same in age group 50-65 year if factors remain sam but loneliness, boredom, anxiety, or depression, In fact, depression in older adults leads to decreased tolerance but increased diverion towards alcohol just causing health issues.

Abdominal muscles play a very important role in supporting our spine from front. There is a muscle called transverse abdominal muscle which is different from the six pack muscles. This lower abdominal muscle can be strengthened in simple ways.

1. Active sitting
When watching tv or waiting for appointments, at bus stops, train station etc do these simple exercises. Sit up straight. Now draw your belly button in towards your chest but do not hold your breath. Count till five and relax. Repeat this 10 to 15 times.

2. Static abdominal exercise
When laying down flat draw your tummy muscles in and feel the arch in your back flatten. Do not hold breath. Just count till five and relax. Repeat 10-15 times.

3. Cycle in air
When laying down flat (on bed or yoga mat) lift both your legs up in air (your legs should be at 90 degrees. Now try to cycle in air for 10 rounds. Relax and repeat 5 times.

4. Cat and camel pose
Get on your hands and knees. Draw in your tummy muscles and hunch your back without holding your breath. (camel pose) hold five seconds.
Relax and get a curve in low back (cat pose). Wait for five seconds. Repeat this cat and camel pose 10-15 times.

To have dried soyabeen dal and grined it & make powder. To have 1 glass full cream milk and mix 1 teaspoon powder in it. You can use this in milk shake also. This is very helpful to gaining weight.

As per parents constitution we will develop different body figure. If you r different from paraents then you can modified by increasing the duration of sleep, quantity of milk, egg, ice cream, banana, regular exercise etc.
