Hepatitis B: What Happens

Many adults who get hepatitis B have mild symptoms for a short time and then get better on their own. But some people are not able to clear the virus from the body, which causes a long-term infection. Nearly 90% of infants who get the virus will carry it for life. Over time, hepatitis B can lead to serious problems, such as liver damage, liver failure, and liver cancer.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello, How much is your blood pressure. Get your blood pressure checked daily and make a proper B.P. chart. Lifestyle changes can help you control and prevent high blood pressure, even if you're taking blood pressure medication. Eat healthy foods. Consume more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat. Decrease the salt in your diet. So, avoid eating processed foods, such as canned soups or frozen dinners which contains extra salt in it. Keeping a healthy weight, or losing weight if you're overweight or obese, can help you control your high blood pressure and lower your risk of related health problems. Increase physical activity which can help lowering your blood pressure, manage stress, reduce your risk of several health problems. Get indulged in regular exercising (if your doctor allows you). Limit alcohol. Even if you're healthy, alcohol can raise your blood pressure. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation. Don't smoke. Tobacco injures blood vessel walls and speeds up the process of hardening of the arteries. Reduce stress as much as possible. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation, deep breathing or meditation. Getting regular physical activity and plenty of sleep can help, too. Monitor your blood pressure at home. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Essentia Aurea/ thrice daily which is a cardio-tonic which helps in maintaining blood pressure, improves muscle tone of the heart and narrowing of blood vessels.

How Can You Boost Your Immune System?

MD - Microbiology, House Job Certificate ( SKIN & STD) , MBBS
General Physician, Gurgaon
How Can You Boost Your Immune System?

The immune system of the body essentially plays two important roles. Firstly, it protects the body from bacteria, viruses and other foreign organisms, thus preventing the onset of infections and diseases. Secondly, it ensures that body cells are functioning properly and are not degenerating. Thus, the immune system of the body is quite effective and is responsible for your overall health.

There are times when the immune system becomes weak and is thus unable to fight foreign organisms invading the body. A direct indication that your immune system is weak is when you catch the seasonal cold or flu. In such a case, you have to take certain steps to give a boost to your immune system, such as-

  1. Live healthy- Living healthy does not only include eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly. Make sure that you get enough sleep on a daily basis and avoid smoking along with consumption of alcohol. It is also essential that you maintain your weight and keep a tab on your blood pressure.

  2. Maintain good hygiene- Hygienic habits such as washing hands before every meal and after using the toilet go a long way when it comes to boosting the immune system.

  3. Reduce sugar intake- As per research, it becomes more difficult for white blood cells to fight bacteria when the sugar level of the body is very high, which is why the immune system gets surpassed, and you are more susceptible to infections.

  4. Consume healthy fats- Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids play an important role in boosting the immune system. These healthy fats help the immune system to make prostaglandins, which effectively destroy germs and viruses that have invaded the body.

  5. Avoid the consumption of toxic food- As far as possible, make sure that you are consuming organic food. This is because food grown on a commercial scale is full of toxic chemicals from the pesticides, insecticides, preservatives and artificial colours added to it. The toxic chemicals have a grave impact on the immune system of the body, which can lead to severe complications in the long run.

Although, you want your immune system to be strong and effective, make sure that it is not highly overactive. A highly overactive immune system can also lead to many health complications, such as the onset of autoimmune conditions. All in all, make sure that you are leading a healthy and balanced lifestyle. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

What causes mood irritation, headache, lack of concentration and frightened feeling?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You have just been through a spurt of the production of the male sex hormone testosterone. During this time three things could happen to you: you will become sexually active, you will become aggressive and rebellious, and you will have acne and pimple problems all this because of the action of this hormone. During this time certain physical characteristics could become highlighted and may embarrass and trouble you. Also because you are transitioning from childhood to adulthood you may think falsely that it is from other factors. Sounds to me like you are into an anger related depression. If you have not been on medication and you want to remain so, you will have to work very hard to recover from this condition. You must first of all seek the help of a counselor, ideally. If that person thinks that you need to meet with a doctor you will need to do so and cooperate right through. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good nights sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Dont wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love: find someone to love and to love you back, if you are not already married. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive everyday and learn to be contended with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

I had urine infection since last 1 month. In my microscopic examination test it was found that leucocyte/pus cells are 2-3 Hpf. And now I feel a burning sensation during urine and had pain on urine. So can I take neeri syrup for this or not. If not then plss suggest me other medicines.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
lybrate-user, I have gone through the query, and appreciate your concern. Since you have urinary tract infection (UTI), there is a need for a specific antibiotic that can take care of the infecting bacteria. Plus there is need for an alkaliser to reduce acidity of the urine so that burning sensation is reduced. As regards Neeri Syrup, you can take it as an additional therapy. But firs please take the specific antibiotic. Thanks.

What You Need To Know About Uterine Prolapse

Crest Affiliated Course in Advanced Reproductive Techniques, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Ghaziabad
What You Need To Know About Uterine Prolapse

The condition of uterine prolapse takes place when the floor muscles (and sometimes, ligaments) of the pelvis region gets stretched overly and then gradually weakens, thus becoming unable to provide adequate support to the uterus. This often leads to the protrusion or the slipping down of the uterus out of the vaginal opening. Though it can affect women of any age, it usually happens to women after menopause, especially those who have already had deliveries out of the vagina.

Causes
The weakening of the muscles in the pelvic region is the chief cause that leads to uterine prolapse. Other causes include:

  1. Natural estrogen loss, especially after menopause
  2. Gravity effects
  3. Supportive tissues of pregnancy and childbirth being damaged
  4. Constant straining over time
  5. Excessive smoking
  6. Improper weight - obesity or being overweight

Symptoms:

There are a number of varieties of uterine prolapse, of varying severity. In case of moderate to severe uterine prolapse, the symptoms tend to be more pronounced and include a number of prominent symptoms.

  1. Protruding tissue from the vagina
  2. Problems in bowel regulation
  3. Increased lower back pains
  4. Increased urinary problems, such as leakage or increased retention
  5. Looseness in the vagina, which may affect your sex life

Usually, these are symptoms which become pronounced in the morning and eventually worsens through the course of the day.

Risk Factors:
The major risk factors that may increase the risk of being afflicted by uterine prolapse are:

  1. Multiple pregnancies
  2. Increasing age
  3. Past problems relating to the pelvis - including surgeries or accidents
  4. General weakness in tissues
  5. Frequently lifting heavy weights

Additionally, there are a number of conditions, such as chronic constipation, obesity or other pulmonary diseases, that may apply excess strain on tissues and muscles of the pelvic region, that accentuates your chances of being afflicted by uterine prolapse.

B.Sc. - Dietitics / Nutrition, Nutrition Certification,Registered Dietitian

1. Use mild shampoo to wash hair (you can make your own shampoo using reetha and shikakai at home). 2. Stop using conditioners. Use natural conditioners like egg, yougurt and lemon. 3. Massage your scalp with a mix of oils like olive, coconut, sesame, castor oil at night. 4. Apply raw amla juice on hair thrice a week. 5. Rub your scalp with the juice of white onion. 6. Use a paste of bhringraj on hair. 7. You can use some good hair packs like - fenugreek and yogurt, egg and green tea. 8. You can rinse your hair with organic apple cider vinegar after washing your hair to maintain pH balance of your hair. 9. Hair health depends on the amount of protein in your diet. Foods like chicken, eggs, fish, nuts, dry fruits gives you the required nutrients to keep your skin and hair healthy. So consume plenty of them. Eat things rich in vitamin C like amla and oranges.

I am a diabetic since last 2 years. I am very worried. I tried ayurvedic medication but nothing worked. Prescribe some medicine for normal daily life.

MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
You need to get your fasting blood glucose and hba1c checked first, along with your lipid profile. There are a lot of anti-diabetic medicines available in the market and choice of medicine varies from person to person. So get your tests done and visit your physician at the earliest. Life lstyle modification has a great role to play too. Avoid all starchy and sweet things, fatty foods to be avoided too. Quit smoking and alchohol. Exercise daily for at least 40 minutes.
