I have an ear pain problem from last year. I consulted by many doctors. But no medicine worked give me solution sir.

I have an ear pain problem from last year. I consulted by many doctors. But no medicine worked give me solution sir.
If you have consulted many doctors, I will assume that you must have visited an ent specialist as well and your ears are clean and the ear drum is normal (otherwise the ent specialist would have pointed that out). So assuming this, your case may be a case of reffered otalgia where pain originates from some other part of the body and feels as if from ear, which is because of shared nerve supply. Most commonly the pain arises from the jaw joint/ the nasopharynx / throat. So please get evaluated for these. Treatment can be started once the diagnosis is established.

I am 16 year old male and I have tonsils from last two years. It is not giving me pain but it is too big that I feel very ugly to see in my neck. Please tell me what I should do?

MBBS, DGO (cal)
General Physician,
Why don't you consult an ENT or at least a doctor in your area? If yes why you not followed their advices? If you would, you won't have this problem. Don't hatch on your problem any longer and go to a good qualified doctor immediately. Keeping infected tonsils is not at all good. It may gives rise to serious problem of your heart or kidney and cause permanent damage.

Hello I am 22 year old guy from india, I am smoking from 4 years, my right tonsil is swollen and I was feeling pain, I took some antibiotics after consulting a doctor, now there is no pain, but its still swollen, please reply if its cancer ?

MD - Radiation Oncology, MBBS
Oncologist,
Dear Lybrate User, It's unlikely to be a cancer. However if it continues to be there for a long time or if it grows in size then a biopsy from the tonsil can help to confirm or refute if it's a cancer.

Causes of Swimmer's Ear

MBBS, MS - ENT ( Gold Medalist Honors )
ENT Specialist, Gurgaon
Causes of Swimmer's Ear

Swimmer's ear is a medical condition, which involves inflammation, irritation or infection of the ear. It may affect the outer ear and also the ear canal. Swimmer's ear is called Otitis externa in medical terms. The condition may be acute to chronic in nature.

Causes: Swimmer's ear is an infection that's usually caused by bacteria commonly found in water and soil. Infections caused by a fungus or a virus are less common. This condition is more common in teenagers and young adults. It may occur due to a middle ear infection or because of a respiratory infection such as cold.
Swimmer's ear can occur as a result of swimming in unclean or contaminated water. These waters contain pseudomonas and other harmful bacteria, which can lead to such ear infections. The infections are rarely caused by fungus.

Swimmer's ear may also result due to other reasons. They can be:

  1. Scratching the inside or outside of the ear.
  2. Having something stuck in the ear. When you clean ear wax with cotton swabs or small objects, damage may occur. Using headphone or ear plugs for a long period of time may also cause swimmer's ear.
  3. Allergic reaction to some object or anything placed in the ear may also cause Swimmer's ear. These may be hair products or jewelry.
  4. Some chronic skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis may also lead to this infection.

Risk factors:
There are several factors, which may enhance the risk of getting swimmer's ear. They are as follows:

  1. Swimming in water, which has got elevated levels of bacteria. This includes lakes and ponds.
  2. People having narrow ear canals are at a more risk of swimmer's ear.
  3. Aggressive cleaning and scratching of the ear canal.

Symptoms:
The symptoms which indicate swimmer's ear are:

  1. Itching of the ear canal. This becomes intense as the condition progresses.
  2. Redness on the inside parts of the ear, which get more extensive in later stages.
  3. Discomfort which worsens by pulling on the outer ear or pushing on the tragus of the front part of the ear.
  4. Drainage of a fluid which is clear and odorless. As the condition worsens, there is excessive drainage of fluid along with the discharge of pus.
  5. A fullness feeling in the ear and a partial blockage of the ear canal because of swelling and fluids.
  6. In advanced stages, fever and swelling of lymph nodes in the neck is indicated. Hearing impairment may occur.

Swimmer's ear is a health condition, which involves the ear. The ear gets inflamed because of a certain bacterial infection. Although it is not a very severe condition, in some cases it can do significant harm.

Decreased hearing on one side or both sides: Proper microscopic examination of ear is required. Also edscopic exam of ear may add some findings. Tunning fork test, Pure tone Audiometry, Impedence audiometry etc will help to come to diagnosis. Deafness can be due to edema, wax or fixation of ear bones of hearing or subluxation of it, may be due to hole in drum or may be due to nerve deafness. You may require surgery.

My daughter (26) sufferring from thyroid goitter. According to INMAS doctors it is a case of surgery. Whether it can be cured by medicines and surgery could be avoided. There are about 5 cysts in thyroid area.

Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Secunderabad
Swelling of thyroid gland can be due to many reasons. Swelling of thyroid is generally referred as goitre.Enlargement of thyroid gland can occur normally. It is called physiological. Goitre. However certain investigations are required 1. Ultra sound of neck 2 Blood test for T3,T4,and TSH 3. FNAC is required for definitive diagnosis. If Ultra sound shows nodule, then USG guided FNAC and before that Tc Scan is required.
