I lost somebody closed last year since then I am feeling depression. So what am I do? Please help me.
Death of a close one is a always painful and difficult to overcome. Generally it take 6 months to one year in recovery but it varies from individual to individual. We always need to put an end to the grief and pain for our own wellbeing. If still you are unable to overcome the pain, that simply means the process of greif (talking out and tears) is yet to be completed. I would suggest you to talk to a friend, who understand your relation with the one who is no more or else take professional help of a psychologist. He/she will help you talk out, accept the situation and finally making easy closure of this painful event in your life.

Hello, I have pcod and I usually have irregular periods. I had my last period around 29th January and before that around 27th December. I did’t get any period after that. I had oral sex with my boyfriend on 5th march he rubbed his genitalia on my vagina and used his finger that may or may not have his ejaculation. He was wearing a condom. I took an ipill 3-4 hours after intercourse. I got sore breasts, cramps and dry vagina the next day. The sore breasts disappeared. But I still get cramps and dry vagina with a very little discharge. I haven’t got any period uptil now. Is there any chance that I’m pregnant? Should I take regestrone to get my periods?

Hello lybrate-user, as you have already taken ipill- after intercourse - pregnancy is not possible. So I would suggest you not to take any medicines and wait for a week. For your PCOD you should take Homoeopathy medicines which will help you to normalize your Hormones and ovarian cyst. Many times we have observed that girls who suffer from PCOD - either have history of some sort of disappointment in there life or there is conflict between there workspace or those girls are carrying a feeling of why I am girl and because I am girl I have to follow so much restrictions. They are not loving themselves. So try to love and respect yourselves, don't hate your feminity. For further details you can book online consultation. Bye take care and good night. You can have online consultation for further details.

Alcohol With Energy Drinks - Why It Should Never Be Mixed?

MBBS, MBA - Health Care Administration
General Physician, Gurgaon
Alcohol With Energy Drinks - Why It Should Never Be Mixed?

Have you ever noticed bar and clubs promoting energy drinks? You may have also bought energy drinks and alcohol, and tried mixing them. But what you don't probably know is consuming energy drinks with alcohol can be much riskier than drinking only alcohol. Since, very few people drink alcohol neat, a small shot of alcohol is usually mixed with juices, colas or more recently energy drinks to make a cocktail.

While it is well-known fact that the sugar in these mixers is responsible for increasing the effect of alcohol on the body and weight gain associated with drinking, when energy drinks are mixed with alcohol, it can have an even more lethal effect on our bodies.

Studies show that this mix causes the brain to react in a similar way to how it behaves when in contact with cocaine. It can also cause permanent brain damage. This is because it stimulates the release of a protein cell known as FosB. This protein has the ability to permanently change the chemical connections inside the brain.

Some of the short-term effects of combining alcohol with energy drinks are:

  1. Digestive troubles
  2. Nausea
  3. Loss of appetite
  4. Depression
  5. Hallucinations
  6. Erratic sleep patterns
  7. Violent behavior

Many of these effects can be a result of alcohol consumption as well and hence, it may not be attributed to the energy drinks being used as mixers. Regular consumption of such cocktails can increase your body’s tolerance of this combination and make a person drink more. This can lead to long-term effects such as:

  1. Malnutrition
  2. Respiratory problems
  3. Tooth decay and abcesses
  4. Psychosis
  5. Liver damage
  6. Kidney troubles
  7. Heart palpitations

Consuming alcohol tends to make a person feel sleepy and tired. However, when this alcohol is mixed with energy drinks, the caffeine in the energy drinks keep the person feeling energized and masks the effect of alcohol. This leads to a condition known as being ‘wide-awake drunk’. In such a situation, the person begins to underestimate how much alcohol he or she is consuming. This creates a false sense of security and hampers with their judgement, balance and coordination. It also increases the risk of behaving erratically and getting into dangerous situations.

In addition to caffeine, energy drinks also have a high sugar content. A small can of energy drink can contain up to 30 grams of sugar. This is equivalent to about half the ideal amount of sugar one should consume in a day. The effect of consuming so much sugar is a fluctuation in blood sugar levels. If this fluctuation persists for a long time, it could lead to conditions such as diabetes and insulin resistance. Thus, along with understanding the ill effects of alcohol, it is also necessary to keep the effects of mixers in mind while concocting cocktails for your next weekend bash. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

Migraine headache is characterised by unilateral pulsating headache associated with nause/vomiting and photophobia / phonophobia. There are triggers for migraine like sun exposure, certain foods or smell, lack of sleep, excess caffeine etc. The triggers are variable for different patients. Migraine attacks can be managed by simple painkillers like paracetamol but in resistant cases drugs like Sumatriptan may be needed. For frequent episodes of migraine preventive medications are to be taken by prescription. There are various medicines available for this and if control is not achieved with one medicine another drug is to be added. Don't take painkillers daily for migraine headaches, it's better to take the preventive medicines.
