My question to pulmonologist. I am 64 yrs old man. I seem to have asthma, but not sure. I am struggling for easy breathing. I want to undergo an accurate test to know whether I am suffering from asthma. In pft, air is blown fast, but I doubt, whether the pft test detects asthma correctly. Please advise me.

Pulmonologist, Faridabad
Pft is quit reliable. Yes pt might be having asthma, but normal pft, impedance oscilography and body plethesography are more advance, not available easily.

I am 62 year old, I have asthma due to dry cough, acidity, now have developed sever joint pain, at home some time I forget medicine, is it going to damage my lungs more, please advice.

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Mumbai
Namaskaar lybrate-user. First of all .makarpash or chyavanprash should be strictly avoided in dry cough and asthma. One more thing you do not get asthma due to dry cough. You may have asthma ,which may be causing dry cough. If you have long standing acidity (heartburn and acid regurgitatio ie acidic material coming in mouth) ,it too can cause dry cough. Your joint problem need attention ,your weight is little more and may be you are inactive, think of proper treatment for joints Do not worry about lung damage, all you need is good medicines and Praanaayaam, Start praanaayaam as early as possible.

Causes of nonallergic asthma

  • Fear

  • Stress
  • Excessive consumption of processed food
  • High salt intake
  • Low intake of omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants
  • Genetic factors

  • Breathlessness
  • Pressure in the chest
  • Cough

Simple techniques

Natural home remedy using honey

 Fill a saucer with honey
Hold it beneath the nose and inhale
This helps to ease the breathing

Natural home remedy using fenugreek seeds, ginger and honey

Take 2 tbsp of fenugreek seeds
Mix in 1 l of water
Let it simmer for 30 min
 Strain the liquid
Crush ginger to make 2 tsp of ginger paste

Add ginger juice to the strained liquid

 Mix well
Drink 1 glass of the mixture every morning

Natural home remedy using Indian gooseberry powder and honey

I have asthma I will barely sleep some nights how can I cure my breathing problem. I use betnesol tablets from my childhood to control it but I heard that it is cause side effects. Because I am turned into skinny personality day by day.

General Physician,
Hi, sorry to hear that you are suffering from asthama, which can be pretty disturbing. You should be having childhood onset asthma. It usually phases out at puberty. But since you are having the problems still, opt for natural ways to bring the problem down: avoid allergen or weather if thats the cause opt for yoga /breathing excercises include diet with more carrots, papaya, coffee, apple, eggs, cereal, avacado. This should bring the dependence on drugs.

General Physician, Cuttack
1. The incubation period (the period between the bite and appearence of symptoms) may vary from 10-90 days. Some times it can develop as early as within 4 days. Since in your case the bite took place 2 years before you have to worry now.

Hi. My age is 25. I had a dog bite on 27th March. I consulted a doctor on 28th and he prescribed to take ARV (Medicine name: RABIPUR) course (0/3/7/28 day). I took the first dose on 28th and my next course is on 31st. After surfing the internet, I am confused whether I should take the 4th dose on 28th day or 14th day from the first dose. Thanks in advance.

General Physician, Cuttack
Total five doses of rabipur vaccine has to be taken on 0 (day of dog bite- 1st dose), 3rd day of dog bite, 7th day of dog bite, 14th day of dog bite and 5th dose on 28th day of dog bite.

Is there any side-effects of using inhaler by a 5 years old child in case of child asthma?

MBBS, MD Pulmonary Medicine
Pulmonologist, Pondicherry
Do not worry about inhaler side effects. Not using inhaler will do more harm than worrying about its side effects. Your child's health is in your hands. Use the medication as advised by your doctor.

There is only one medicine for you and that is exercise with healthy diet. You are in the prime age of your life so forget about medicines, choose exercise and balanced diet for health. Proper sleep is another aspect. Medicines can help in removing disease and not in attaining health, for that diet full of proteins, vitamins, fibres, minerals is required with less oil and low salt n spices.

Is par curable? my son (5year old) has mild asthma but allergic rhinites all the year. Doctors of allopathy said if it is not cured asthma will not go. They have given mometasone nasal spray and montec lc for one month. The problem is that after the course of montec lc is completed ar comes back despite the constant use of mometasone. What should I do? I have tried Ayurveda medicine (prescription medicine) without effect.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS

You need to continue medications as advised by your doctor and review on a monthly basis. Do not stop the medicines on your own else the symptoms would relapse. We generally titrate the medicines very slowly over a period of few months to keep the child asymptomatic.
