I have a small lump in my left breast since 2 years. Also a serous discharge is coming out from nipple while pressing. No dimpling and pain. Is it a carcinoma or fibroadenoma? The amount of discharge is hardly one drop. Whether it s a carcinoma? Need a surgery?

FMAS, MS
General Surgeon, Gandhinagar
Respected lybrate-user hi it doesn't seem carcinoma. Surgery if pain more size or bothering you more thanks regards.

Mr. sachin was suffering from stage 2 Head and neck cancer. He had undergone surgery in october month. After that radiation and chemotherapy is completed. You can use stack of icecream sticks tied together with rubber band and place in the mouth. And repeat this several times in a day. You can start with the number of spoons he is comfortable with and then gradually increase the number. There are mouth opening prosthesis available. You can ask him to inflate balloons to break adhesions in the mouth.

Ways To Treat Cervical Cancer!

Ways To Treat Cervical Cancer!

Cervical cancer occurs when abnormal cells on the cervix grow out of control. The cervix is the lower part of the uterus that opens into the vagina. Cervical Cancer is one of the most common ailments that women suffer from, making it only more important to be taken seriously and treated immediately.

Most cervical cancer is caused by a virus called human papillomavirus, or HPV. You can get HPV by having sexual contact with someone who has it. There are many types of the HPV virus. Not all types of HPV cause cervical cancer. Some of them cause genital warts, but other types may not cause any symptoms.

Most adults have been infected with HPV at some time. An infection may go away on its own. But sometimes it can lead to cervical cancer. That's why it's important for women to have regular screening. A screening can find changes in cervical cells before they turn into cancer. If you treat these cell changes, you may prevent cervical cancer.

Symptoms of Cervical Cancer may include:

  1. Bleeding from the vagina that is not normal, such as bleeding between menstrual periods, after sex, or after menopause.
  2. Persistent abnormal discharge.

Cervical cancer is the easiest gynecologic cancer to prevent, with regular screening tests and follow-up. Two screening tests can help prevent cervical cancer or find it early:

  1. The Pap test (or Pap smear) looks for precancers, cell changes on the cervix that might become cervical cancer if they are not treated appropriately.
  2. The HPV test looks for the virus (human papillomavirus) that can cause these cell changes.

When to Get Screened

You should start getting regular Pap tests at age 21. The Pap test, which screens for cervical cancer, is one of the most reliable and effective cancer screening tests available. The Pap test is the best way to find cervical cell changes that can lead to cervical cancer. Regular Pap tests almost always show these cell changes before they turn into cancer. It's important to follow up with your doctor after any abnormal Pap test result so you can treat abnormal cell changes. This may help prevent cervical cancer.

Treatment-

In spite of being a fatal ailment, over the years various treatments have evolved that deal with this problem effectively. Some of them are:

1. SurgeryOne of the effective and oft availed treatment to cure cervical cancer is surgery. Depending on the stage on which the disease is detected, doctors may suggest for a hysterectomy or removing the pelvic nymph nodes.

2. Chemotherapy: This has emerged as the most sought after way of treating any form of cancer. The abnormal growth of cells that triggers cancer in the first place is deterred in this method by administering drugs to destroy them. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist and ask a free question.

MBBS, MD, Fellowship in Intergrative medicine
Integrated Medicine Specialist, Kochi
Hi Scanning using the PET scan and certain blood tests can tell you if there is cancer in the body. But it depends on the type of cancer whether it is in any organ or in the blood Sorry to hear your dad and dads brother death. A detailed history both medical and diet history is required to tell more precisely. Also blood work is also needed. Eating clean with no processed foods, no dairy Plant based food, exercise, adequate vitamin d, proper sleep, no tobacco, no alcohol ,high fibre diet can prevent cancer.

Hi, I appreciate you seeking help. To be on a safer side, its advisable that you get this clinically examined by a gynaec oncologist right away and not delay any further. Imaging, either through mammography or mri subsequently followed by a biopsy is always the gold standard for accurate diagnosis of breast cancer. I wish you all the very best. Do take care.

Cervical Cancer - Causes and Testing for Diagnosis

Cervical Cancer - Causes and Testing for Diagnosis

What causes cervical Cancer?

Genital Human papilloma virus (HPV) is a very common virus in both men and women that can lead to the development of genital warts, abnormal cervical cells or cervical cancer.

This virus can cause normal cells on your cervix (Know more about Cervix Infection) to turn abnormal. Over many years, abnormal cells can turn into cancer if they are not found and treated by your doctor. It can take 10 to 15 years (or more) for cells to change from normal to abnormal, and then into cancer. Abnormal cells are sometimes called 'pre cancer ' because they are not normal, but they are not yet cancer.

You cannot see or feel HPV or these cell changes on your cervix. Screening tests help us to look for these changes or for abnormal cells (Learn more about sexually transmitted diseases)

How is HPV spread?

HPV is transmitted during genital skin to-skin sexual contact. This includes vaginal or anal sex and possibly oral sex.A person can get HPV even if years have passed since he or she had sex. They will never know it because HPV usually has no signs and symptoms.

In most cases, HPV goes away within two years, without causing any health problems. It is thought that the immune system  fights off HPV infection naturally

What screening tests exist for HPV- related diseases?

Cervical Cancer: Cervical cancer can be detected with routine Cervical cancer screening (Pap test) and follow-up of abnormal results. The Pap test can find abnormal cells on the cervix so that they can be removed before cancer develops.    Abnormal cells often become normal over time, but can sometimes turn into cancer. These cells can usually be treated, depending on their severity and on the woman's age, past medical history, and other test results.

An HPV DNA test, which can find certain HPV types on a woman's cervix, may also be used with a Pap test in certain cases (called co-testing). The HPV-DNA test is done to determine if you are infected with one of the high-risk types or if your doctor finds certain type of abnormal Pap test result.

Even women who were vaccinated when they were younger need regular cervical cancer screening because the vaccines do not protect against all cervical cancer strains.

Is there a treatment for HPV or related problems?

HPV vaccination could prevent most cancers and other diseases caused by HPV. There is no treatment for the virus itself, but there are treatments for the problems that HPV can cause:

Visible genital warts may remain the same, grow more in number, or go away on their own. The warts can be treated when they appear.

Abnormal cervical cells (found on a Pap test) often become normal over time, but they can sometimes turn into cancer. If they remain abnormal, these cells can usually be treated to prevent cervical cancer from developing. This may depend on the severity of the cell changes, the woman's age , past medical history, and other test results. It is critical to follow up with testing and treatment, as recommended by a doctor.

Post detection of ovarian cancer the doctors , depending on your cancer stage can recommend the treatment more- surgery, medical treatment, radiation therapy or chemotherapy.

My relative was highly indulged in chewing tobacco and liquor consumption. Now he is diagnosed with lungs cancer fourth stage. Post biopsy his condition is getting even critical. He is not able to breathe without oxygen mask. Doctors say this is because of biopsy post effects. Please advice how long can he survive. Doctors say he is not strong enough to bear chemotherapy. Is he very critical.

MD - Pulmonary Medicine, MBBS
Pulmonologist, Gurgaon
Usually lung cancer fourth stage is very critical and such patients have a very poor survival rate. But still you need to tell me about the type of lung cancer, prognosis depends on that. We might suggest him a low dose chemo. But in all conditions his outcome won't be very great.

I am 56 years old I am having prostate problem I cant say since how long sometimes I have to frequently go for urine with 1 hour interwal 4-5 times please advise remedy.

Felllow in Endourology, MCh Urology, MRCS, MS, MBBS
Urologist,
I am 56 years old I am having prostate problem I cant say since how long sometimes I have to frequently go for urine ...
Dear, I am sorry to know about your problem. Your symptoms can be caused by enlarged prostate with overactive bladder, urinary retention with overflow, urinary infection, bladder or ureteric stones, tumour of prostate or bladder and some other rare conditions. So it is important to diagnose correctly and start the treatment. I would advise you to get the following tests done: ultrasonogram abdomen with post void residual urine, uroflowmetry, urine microscopy and serum prostate specific antigen (psa) after ruling out urinary infection. It is also important to get your prostate palpated by a urologist to rule out a tumour in prostate. There are good drugs to control the symptoms caused by prostate enlargement and overactive bladder. However, without evaluating with the above basic tests it is not appropriate to start a treatment blindly. Please get back to me with the above report. I will be in a better position to guide you further. Wish you good health
