I have bad breath. I tried doing many things but can not understand why it happens & how to stop.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
•Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too.

I am a retired person. I had five surgeries on account of failed surgery of hernia. My present weight is 65 kg which I want to reduce it to 55-56 Kgs. Hi lybrate-user, please read on to get some simple diet remedies to loose weight. 1. Castor Seed Oil - Throughout history, castor oil has been used for a wide variety of stomach health concerns, as it can coat the stomach in a thin lining, thus preventing inflammation and encouraging proper digestion. You can prepare a castor seed oil pack and place it on the stomach to soothe the painful symptoms of a hernia. 2. Aloe Vera Juice - As a natural anti-inflammatory compound and soothing agent, aloe vera is often recommended for people who are struggling with the pain of a hernia. Aloe vera can be consumed every morning in juice form, or even eaten prior to every meal for best results, and a much lower chance of developing a hernia. 3. Ice pack - When you suffer a hernia, there can often be inflammation, redness, and pain in the abdomen or groin. While this may not be the most comfortable remedy, applying an ice pack directly to the affected area can cause contraction and reduce inflammation in the body, often relieving the pain and bloating associated with it. 4. Ginger Root - When it comes to reducing abdominal pain and soothing inflammatory conditions, few things are as effective as ginger root. You can consume this remedy in liquid form through concentrated ginger juice, or you can eat raw ginger to give your stomach a healthy boost and reduce much of the pain of this condition. It can specifically protect the stomach and esophagus from the build-up of gastric juices, which can happen in the case of a hernia. 5. Alter Your Diet - Certain foods should be specifically avoided if you wish to prevent or treat a hernia. Spicy foods, acidic foods, and those that are difficult to digest should be avoided if you are at high risk for a hernia or already have one. These foods can further inflame the stomach lining and make it more difficult for the healing process. 6. Black Pepper Powder - Black pepper powder is useful for more than simply flavoring food. It has been associated with soothing stomach issues and reducing inflammation of the gut. It can also help to suppress acid reflux and stimulate healing in those parts of the body cavity that may have been compromised when the organ began to push through the cavity wall. 7. Relieve Stress - A major factor behind the formation of hernias is stress and anxiety. Excess stress hormones in the body can weaken the body’s organ systems and put more strain on your metabolism as a whole. Stomach issues and acid reflux can be affected by stress, which can exacerbate or increase your risk of hernias. Great stress reduction activities include meditation, yoga, acupuncture, and massage, as well as the use of essential oils and aromatherapy. 8 Cut Back on Exercise - Since one of the main causes of hernias is strenuous exercise or overexertion while lifting weights, if you have experienced a hernia in the past or commonly engage in heavy exercise, cut back and perform easier workouts while in recovery, or as a preventative measure. The strain involved in exercise is similar to straining during bowel movements, which can also cause hernias, so ensure that you drink enough fluids and eat enough fiber to ensure smooth bowel movements. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. There is no fixed schedule for taking anti-diabetes medications. Schedule can be altered based on the need of a specific patient. Most important is the blood glucose control achieved by the patient. Ideally with treatment fasting blood glucose should be < 100 mg, Pp 160 to 170 mg & HbA1c% < 7. If your father has been able to maintain his glucose levels in the above mentioned fashion, then treatment is working well. Along with the drugs, diet control and exercise are equally important. Thanks.

I want to use an energy drink so that I can workout more then my usual limit. My usual limit is 30 minutes barely. Which energy drink should I use?

BHMS
Homeopath, Secunderabad
Firstly get a routine medical check up with a doctor (and do some basic tests to assess your fitness level ). Go slow with exercise and do not exert more at a time. Add yoga and pranayam which help in enhancing your strength and stamina naturally. Eat healthy food (read about balanced diet ). Have lots of fruits which will give you the needed energy naturally. Please revert after that with all the details for further clarification/ information.

Digestive Enzymes- Sprouted seeds, legumes.

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Udupi
Digestive Enzymes- Sprouted seeds, legumes.

Digestive enzymes can help provide relief from heartburn, acid reflux, sluggish bowels and diarrhoea. A body in balance doesn't need supplemental enzymes because it produces them on its own.

Supplemental enzymes do help some people better access nutrients from the food they eat, especially if they suffer from digestive distress. Instead of reaching for a pill, consider your lifestyle habits and diet as a way to naturally increase the production of the digestive enzymes in your body.

Digestive enzymes may be in their most readily available form when you eat them in foods that are in their raw state. Raw food dieters claim that the digestive enzymes in vegetables and fruit are diminished when these foods are heated to 118 degrees Fahrenheit. However, your stomach acids often break down these enzymes immediately, even when you eat raw food.

But, increasing your intake of raw foods - particularly fruits and vegetables - can help cleanse your system and improve digestion, because they contain large amounts of fibre, antioxidants and phytonutrients. A healthy gut produces appropriate amounts and appropriate types of digestive enzymes.

Supplement your normal diet with foods that also offer large amounts of digestive enzymes.

Sprouted seeds and legumes, soaked nuts, papaya, pineapple, mango and kiwi all serve as a significant source of digestive enzymes. Avocado, raw honey, coconut oil and raw dairy products are other quality sources.

You will need surgery for either one or both jaws depending on how complex it is. Surgery alone may not sort out the issue as the teeth will also need braces to correct the position before or after surgery for correct treatment. Cost depends on the doctor, hospital and equipment /plates screws used. A private consultation would be appropriate for this. X rays need to be seen.
