I am 53 years old I have acute pain in my right lower border of ribcage I am having chronic bronchitis. I have some sort of mild pain in my right shoulder joint since from last week.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. This pain in rib cage can be a reflection of your bronchitis condition. Your shoulder pain can be due to degeneration setting in joint. You can start with: 1) physical therapy for shoulder in presence of a good physiotherapist initially 2) you can take short course of anti-inflammatory medications as per your suitability 3) ice packs for 4-5 days ( 10-15 min every 2-3 hours) if it does not help, then please let me know and we might get some x rays done for you. This back pain is due to no back exercise. Due to this muscle get stiff. When suddenly you get move fast that time this stiff muscle get break and pain start. In ayurved there is mentioned one procedure kati basti. Do this for five days with medicated oil if you want to do it you should do it under doctor observation. So consult ayurvedic doctor near you. Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Hello, you have to avoid fast food, fried food. Your diet must contain salad at least 1 full dish n need to eat fruit maximum. Take water at least five liter a day will help to detoxify body and loose weight avoid water after meal least 1 hour. Walk least 5 km will help you.

Have you ever felt pain in your great toe or may be ankle/foot/knee/heel/wrist/elbow which was intially in one joint and over the time involved other joints too. Then you might be having increased uric acid levels. Diet is important in such patients.

Consume food less in purine content like cornflakes, white bread, pasta, flour, milk and its products, eggs, lettuce, tomatoes, green veggies and fruit juices.

Strict no to all high purine foods like meats, seafood, beas, peas, lentils, spinach, cauliflower, mushrooms, beer and other alcoholic beverages.

. Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day. Do the cat/cow stretch. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart.

Dear lybrate-user, namaskar, this is what we call. Lifestyle disease, quite common amongst the youngsters who work on computers for long hours. You must sit with right posture while working (proper height of the screen, desk as well as your chair with correct back support.) you should interrupt your working for 10 minutes after every 1-1.5 hrs. Also in between close your eyes for few minutes and learn exercises for the back and eyes by a physiotherapist and decrease the brightness of your screen. Take care.

I am 58 years old. Till my age of 40 I used to play badminton for around one to one and half hour daily. Now I am suffering from knee pain. Dr.diagnosed the same as Astio --arthritis's. If I walk for more than 2-3 KM I am getting severe pain in my knees. Please advise me the course of treatment.

Osteoarthritis is a mild disorder of the knee whihc increases with age. You can continue to maintain a normal life and extend the health of your knee by regular exercise, weight loss as well as some mild medication. I would advise you to meet a rheumatologist in your city for further treatment.

Leg pain- for leg pain, please follow the below advise: keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise. Ankle stretch calves get a custom made insole. Hams stretching. Sports taping. Hot fomentation.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. The remedy for knee pain is: - intensive physical therapy with focus on strengthening of quadriceps and stretching of other group of muscles - gentle anti inflammatory medications like tab etoshine or tab paracetamol can be taken in small doses for 5-7 days - adequate calcium and vitamin d supplementation as per requirement - ice packs at home for 3-4 times in a day and see how it goes for around 2 weeks time. If your condition does not improve, then we will have to get certain investigations done. Well for your finger pains, my advise will be activity modification, anti inflammatory medications, calcium and vitamin d supplementation for 2-3 weeks and then let me know.
