Take it easy. Don't think of suicide. There is a way out. If possible start learning RAJYOG (taught by BRAHMAKUARIS). That will change your attitude towards events coming in ones life. As you know CHANGE is constant. The situation will change. Change your thinking pattern. Dealing with Stress Stress may be broadly defined as comprising of 3 components, namely a “known situation, interpretation of a situation and the physical and mental reaction to that interpretation of the situation”. Stress is a situation: There cannot be a stress without a situation. One cannot be stressed about some event occurring in USA without knowing the person or the situation. The situation requires familiarity with the particular sensory object (known situation). Stress is an interpretation of a situation: Without interpretation, stress is not possible. The same situation can be interpreted differently by different people. A stimulus may be stressful to one but not to another. Stress is a physical and mental response to the interpretation of the situation: Stress manifests because of a chemical imbalance resulting due to sympathetic overactivity, which manifests as mental and or physical symptoms. Stress, therefore, is the body’s physical and mental response to the interpretation of a situation. Management of stress, therefore, involves either changing the situation, changing the interpretation of the situation or making the body resistant to physical and mental changes in the situation. Practicing Patanjali’s eight limbs of yoga via living a yogic lifestyle, adhering to the various Dos and Do not’s in life as taught in various religious teachings, and learning to meditate help our body to resist these sympathetic–activating changes and handle the stressful situation. These involve proper diet, exercise, meditation and relaxation exercises. Changing the interpretation of a situation involves counseling. Cognitive behavior therapy used in counseling is one such example. Change in interpretation requires deeper understanding of the problem and removal of the obstacles. This can be done by using Ganesha’s principles of stress management, Rosenburg’s Principle of Non–Violent Communication, or the principles of counseling from Bhagwad Gita. Change of the situation is the final resort for solving the problem, even though this may not be always possible. For example, in a dispute between husband and wife, divorce should be the last choice, after all counseling efforts have failed to resolve the issue.

I started smoking in 2010 & i smoke quite a bit much than normal ( means avg. 10 cigarette per day ) so i just want to ask how many months or years it will take to come back to normal life / healthy life as i never smoked if i quit today. Also is there any medication available to quit ? please reply me

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Delhi
Yes. If u stop cigaratte u will be like before only in few weeks. For that u need to set a quit date. Dont be too much enthusiastic and keep the quit date as per ur convenience. It is not necessary that the quit date should be very close to the day u decide to quit smoking. Lower down ur cigaratte slowly, initially lower down the number per day than when it comes to 2-3 cigarates per day, u can increase the interval period between two cigarattes. Finally u will be able to quit. For craving u need to be highly motivated and still if u feel for cigaratte go for nicotene gums which is awailable in market. Take care

I am suffering from anxiety and getting treatment as well. All of sudden from past week I have been hearing these humming 6 to 7 time a day. I am freaking out. I hope it's not psychosis. Want some positive answer.

Hi I will prescribe some harmless but effective flower remedy available in homoeopathy shops. Try to buy original medicines. Mix 5 drops of impatiens + 4 drops of scleranthus + 4 drops of white chestnut + 5 drops of mimulus. Mix these with 100 ml water and drink it every night. Before sleeping.

Hi! You are suffering from mood swings. Various causes are related to mood swings. You also seem to suffer from depression and that is the reason you tend to stay aloof from everyone. If you really want to overcome this problem and lead a normal life you need to volunteer to undergo treatment from a Professional Psychologist or a Psychiatrist who could help you overcome this problem. If you are interested to undergo treatment for the same you can even contact me through online consultation. Take care. Be relaxed. With regards

There is a psychiatrist who told me to take etilaam 0.5 twice a day as I'm suffering from generalized S.A. But I don't want to take this medicine regularly because of negative reviews as these medicines are very addictive, occurs memory loss problem too. So my query is that can I take etizolam medicine whenever it is required (like in interviews and group discussion ).is it safe to take this medicine before going to stressful situation? Thanks in advance.

It is advisable to take the medicine as prescribed by your treating doctor as the treating doctor has assessed your condition face to face. But, also try considering non pharmacological means like some counseling sessions which would help you control your anxiety on long run, which would further enhance your confidence levels. Your doubts are genuine as the medicine has addiction potential when used more than 4 weeks. So,again discuss the same issue with your treating doctor.

I am 27 years old female. I am very short temper. So tell me how to control myself.

Dear Lybrate user, Anger and aggression are emotions. Anger comes when you become irritated. Irritation happens when you don't like something, or when something is repeated. As anger is an emotion, it should be vent out. You should be able to throw anger out instead of controlling it. But more perfect will be, know the frustrating situations and stop being emotional. If practiced properly, you will not get irritated at those circumstances at all. Those techniques are much easier to understand. Take care.

My father is facing quite a lot problem in speaking and swallowing (solids and semi solids) His words are not clear and the jawline muscles are contracting when he is chewing. Is it similar to parkinson. We have consulted a neuro but there no relief. The medication has been taken for almost 2 years now. Is parkinson curable?
