What is the Difference Between Sprains and Strains?

A sprain refers to a break or a tear in any of the ligaments of your body. A ligament is a band consisting of tissues that connect the bones at any given joint in our body.

A strain on the other hand refers to a tear or a break in the entire muscle itself or a tendon (the band of tissues that connect the muscle to the bones).

Occurrence: Sprains usually take place due to unforeseen incidents like falls, accidents, and such other things that forces the body part to go out of its normal position. The most common types of sprains that people suffer from are ankle sprains which affect about 25,000 people every day on a worldwide basis.Strains usually happen when you twist a whole muscle or a tendon. This condition most commonly occurs in cases of sportspersons who are engaged in contact sports like hockey, football, rugby, and such others.

Symptoms :The identification signs of sprains and strains are mostly very similar, which are listed below:

  1. Pain and discomfort in the joints
  2. Visible swelling or inflammation seen on the joints
  3. Bruising of the affected area
  4. Tenderness and softness of the affected joint

The overall intensity of the above mentioned symptoms might differ basis on the severity of the condition that is directly proportional to the nature of injury that you have faced. Some pains are so light that it may not affect your daily routine at all, whereas some pains are so intense, that you might not be able to move your affected joint at all.

Treatment: Some of the common methods to cure a sprain or a strain are listed below:

  1. Rest the area which is affected
  2. Apply ice bags or cold compress to soothe the pain
  3. Compress the affected joint using a compression tape
  4. Place the affected joint on an elevated area to speed up the healing process

Hello i'm 30 years old mother of two kids. At night I feel restless in my legs. There is no pain but something that cause restless in legs. Every time if I stretched my legs I feel better for few minutes. After that it goes on till I slept. What is it. Please help.

8 Warm Up Exercises You Must Do!

The point of doing a work out is to put your body through the motions and phases before you hit an intense spot of persistent action before cooling down. This helps in giving your body a well-balanced work out. But what many of us do not know is that a good workout schedule will also involve well-paced warm up sessions with exercises that will warm up the body and its various areas as well as the muscles so that the intensity does not hit the body suddenly and result in some sort of injury or undue fatigue.

So get it right with these eight warm up exercises that you aren't doing, but totally should!

  1. Dynamic: Follow a dynamic routine and mix it up a little with various kinds of movements that will work the different areas of the body. Start with squats and move on to lunges before you do a few skips to warm up!
  2. Jump: Try the jumping rope the next time you hit the gym and watch your heart rate go up just enough to get you all warm and loose, ready for that heavy duty work out. You can start with five minutes of this motion before moving on to your first set.
  3. Dance: Did you know that switching on your favourite music and shuffling your feet before you start to gyrate a little can actually get you in the right frame of mind for a work out? So next time, warm up with a little dancing!
  4. Balance: Warm up with a balancing act or two. Stand on one leg and do deadlifts with a dumb bell. Repeat the same motion for both arms. This helps in imitating the actual work out that you will be indulging in, which helps in warming up the relevant areas.
  5. Stretches: Try doing stretches and jumping jacks for stability and to work your core strength before you hit the gym equipment. This will bring about better blood circulation and help you get your heart ready for the work out.
  6. Swing: Use swinging movements with your arms and legs with circles and marches to help loosen up the muscles.
  7. Walk: Do the animal walk with crab walks, frog jumps, bunny hops, inch worm motions and much more to unleash your energy.
  8. Medicine Balls: Grab some medicine balls and do a few moves like the rotational twist, the front body push, the reverse eight and many more to get your body pumped up.

Hi Go for proper exercise on regular basis. Reduce body weight as much as you can. Use cold compression around pain area. Consult after 3 days.

Hi How the pain start. Go for hit compression around tha pain area for 10 min. After that you go for stretching with in limit.
