Too much cholesterol in the blood can lead to cardiovascular disease. What you eat has a direct impact on your cholesterol level. In fact, a diet rich in fiber and other cholesterol-lowering foods may help lower cholesterol as much as statin medication for some people. Working with a registered dietitian and doctor is the key to develop and maintain a successful health program to manage it. I will inform you on how to make diet, lifestyle changes, make you understand instructions for taking medication because it won't work if you don't take it as directed. Consult privately for a holistic dietary therapy to solve your problems.

I am 49 years old and I have bp fluctuation problem and fat what should I do according you. I am taking ayurvedic+unani mix mdcn.

I am a registered dietitian and doctor who will help you in losing your weight. Let me know your food intake details. The best diet is one which is healthy and well balanced with foods from all the food groups, and one which is varied and that you can stick to weight loss on some diets can be dramatic in the short term, but there's more of a chance of rebound weight gain. Set yourself a realistic target and aim to lose between (0.5-1.0kg) a week I being a registered dietitian strongly accommodate the patients own preferences without the patient feeling that they are on a diet not compromising the weight management goals. Don't fall for self dieting or fad diets availiable online they have harmful effects in the long run, if you lose a lot of weight very quickly, you may not lose as much fat as you would with a more modest rate of weight loss. Instead, you might lose water weight or even lean muscle tissue, since it's hard to burn that many fat calories in a short period. I will need to carry out detailed assessment in your case, after assessing your personal challenges to weight loss, I will recommend a strategy to gradually change habits and attitudes that have sabotaged your past efforts. Reply back for private consultation for a holistic dietary therapy which includes diet, simple workouts and few medications.

Dear Lybrateuser, -Start with walking then do brisk walking for about 10 days if you can't jog, gradually increase your pace & then time after a week, when you are comfortable with with brisk walking for 30-40 min then try slow jogging -do warm up & stretching for 10 min before the main exercise, also cool down for 5-10 min after exercise -try to reduce your weight by dieting, eat more of fibrous foods like fruits & vegetables, beans, nuts, avoid fried, processed & junk foods -do yoga for 10-20 min as it will also help in reducing weight & building stamina -consult a dietitian on forum for dietary requirements as per your constitution.

if all reports are normal it may due to gastritis...you can do tests ECHO. Start with easily digested foods such as gelatin, crackers and toast. When you can keep these down, try cereal, rice, fruit, and salty or high-protein, high-carbohydrate foods. Avoid fatty or spicy foods. Wait to eat solid foods until about six hours after the last time you vomited

Cholesterol level should be measured at least once every five years in everyone over age 20. The screening test that is usually performed is a blood test called a lipid profile. Experts recommend that men ages 35 and older and women ages 45 and older be more frequently screened for lipid disorders. The lipoprotein profile includes: Total cholesetrol LDL (low-density lipoprotein CHOLESETROL also called "bad"CHOLESTETROL HDL (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, also called "good" cholesterol) TRIGLYCERIDES (fats carried in the BLOOD from the food we eat. Excess calories, alcohol, or sugar in the body are converted into TRIGLYCERIDES and stored in fat cells throughout the body. High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. GARLIC,. Cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines . Cap. HOME REMEDIES FOR HIGH TRIGLYCERIDES/ CHOLESTEROL-
The best home remedy to cure a person with high cholesterol is to have at least 8-10 glasses of water per day.
Immerse 2 tablespoons of coriander seeds in a glass of water. Boil the concoction and allow it to cool. Strain the water and have it three times a day.
Take 10 pieces of cinnamon sticks and put them in a pot containing 5 teacups of water. Boil the water and then add a tablespoon of honey to it. Drink this concoction when it’s warm.
In a glassful of milk, add a piece of garlic and boil it. Allow it to cool before drinking. Consume this for a few days. Not only would it reduce cholesterol, but also take care of the cardiac pains.
Alternatively, a person who has problems of high cholesterol can also have 2-3 cloves of garlic per day.
Mix 10-12 tablespoons of apple juice and 5-6 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Intake this mixture once a day.
Consuming raw onions or onion juice is also beneficial in reducing the high cholesterol.
Regular exercising is very necessary to keep the cholesterol levels under control.
In green leafy salads, mix a small amount of olive oil. It proves beneficial lessening the high cholesterol levels as well as for the proper functioning of the heart and the body.
Persons suffering from high cholesterol should have foods rich in fiber such as raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, broccoli, green beans, etc.
Consume lots of almonds and walnuts. These are helpful in reducing the cholesterol levels.
Chewing sweet neem is also beneficial in lowering the high cholesterol levels.
Having fenugreek seeds and sprouts helps to reduce the high cholesterol levels.
Persons suffering from high cholesterol levels should have a small bowl of curd everyday. Curd acts favorably in reducing the cholesterol levels.
Another effective natural remedy to treat high cholesterol levels would be to have foods rich in lecithin such as egg yolk, vegetable oils, whole grain cereals, soybeans and un-pasteurized milk.
It is advisable to have food prepared from sunflower seeds instead of butter and saturated oil. This is highly beneficial in regulating the cholesterol levels.

How can the chest pains distinguish as heart problems or not in case of a middle aged man who is a smoker?

MBBS, MD-General Medicine, DM - Cardiology
Cardiologist, Secunderabad
How can the chest pains distinguish as heart problems or not in case of a middle aged man who is a smoker?
Chest pain that is central, not localised, radiating to arms and neck, associated with sweating, aggravated by activity and relieved by rest is typical of cardiac pain. Usually that is constricting or sqeezing or heavy pressure like feeling. Chest pain which is not central, licalised to left or rifht side, not radiating, pricking or aching type, aggravates while breathing is usually of non cardiac origin.

Sir, I am 21 years old but my lungs and heart pain many times a day. I smoke and I don't know how to quit it.
Everyone by now know about ill effects of smoke or pollution which is worse than cigarette smoke, we are exposed and we cannot escape the bad effects while living in Delhi. Why do you want to increase your risk to heart and lungs both ,as low oxygen levels in the air can trigger a heart attack. Give it up through your will power only.
