I have been feeling low and sad earlier in previous months from time to time due to some issues but dt I tried to ignore and frgt and get along well. Bt since past 2-3 months its like a constant thing now. I am numb and neither do feel sad or happy. If something gd happens m fine and if I have an issue or a fight or an argument m like numb. Like I don't even get angry nor anything and don't even want to discuss or say anything abt it. I was a social person but now m not. I don't want to meet or see any1. I don't wanna talk or even listen to any1. It irritates me a lot when someone is trying to explain me or is trying to make me understand abt my life. I feel like I should either walk away or bang d phone, to me its useless and just want to end it. I don't remember when was d last tym I laughed its been a month I guess. Nothing delights me not even music which was my all tym fav. I want to stay in my room n just sleep. I have 104/63 bp and 95 pulse normally. I feel tired and hopeless and sick. I don't know whether is it depression or not. But m no more What I was. Need help badly.

Dear user. I can understand. Depressive disorder or depression is a neuro chemical disorder. Suicidal tendency is one main symptom of depression. You must be able to distinguish between mental disease and mental disorder. Your problem is a mental disorder. Not a mental disease. These mental disorders are usually treated with a combination of medicines and other means like awareness, meditation, Psychotherapy techniques, life style changes etc. Take care.

Social phobia is a psychological problem. Medicine will not helpful for this aspect. It is better to consult psychologist. Psychological counselling will helpful to come out of this problem. Because of one problem simultaneously other factors also developed. Muttering it is not related to schizophrenia in your aspect. Do not think too much about psychological disorders. Take life style modification and cognitive behaviour modification therapy. It is good to you. It is not caused for any side affects. For social phobia you need to do some work. Do not sit alone and do not think aloneness. Be share your internal feelings and problems to your close friends and family members. Be sociable all the time and be happy. Do not use continuously medicine it is not good for your mental health. It has some side effects. Better to stop the medicine. Change your behaviour you will come from your problems. It is better to consult a good qualified psychologist in lucknow. Be happy all the time. Ok all the best.

You seem to be very conscious of yourself and hold yourself back. Many people have social anxiety and with conscious efforts have successfully overcome their limitations. First stop being too critical about yourself. Start to take small steps towards befriending other students around you, you may begin with just smiling at them, then wishing them. Just do this for few days. Slowly and gradually you can begin talking starting with few sentences, maintaining eye-contact is very important. Every time you have made an effort towards knowing a person, give yourself a thumps up. It may appear difficult and intimidating at first but gradually you will start enjoying others company. Isolating yourself will never solve the problem and will make you feel very lonely. If you need further help then consult a counsellor in person to explore the elements behind your shyness. All the best. Take care.

General Physician,
YOu try these tips to study . 10 Study Tips to Improve Your Learning Study Tip 1: Underlining Underlining is one of the simplest and best known study tips. It’s easy to highlight the most significant parts of what you’re reading. One key sentence per paragraph and a few important phrases here and there. You can only retain a certain amount so it’s best to retain the most important information. Study Tip 2: Make your own note and taking notes is one of the most widespread study skills out there. Essentially the aim of note-taking is to summarise lectures or articles in your own words so you can easily remember the ideas. Study Tip 3: Mind mapping A good Mind map can save you many hours of study and further consolidate your knowledge for your exams. Mind Maps are an extremely versatile tools. They can be used for brainstorming, outlining essays or study topics and for general exam preparation, ExamTime offers the ability to create Mind Maps quickly and easily which makes them the ideal tool when it comes to exams. Study Tip 4: Flash cards:- Using these are a particularly effective method of learning when trying to assimilate different facts, dates, formulas or vocabulary. Subjects such as History, Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Geography or any language are made much easier if you incorporate Flashcards in to your study. Study Tip 5: Case Studies Sometimes it can be difficult to grasp the implications of some theories. This is where studying case studies can be a big help. Case studies can help you visualise a theory and place it in a more familiar and realistic context. This is especially useful in business or law subjects. Study Tip 6: Quizzes are an excellent way to review study notes in the weeks and days before an exam. Quizzes can show where your strengths and weaknesses are, so it allows you to focus your efforts more precisely. Moreover, if you share your Study Quiz with your classmates and test each other as much as possible you can discover even more details and areas you may have overlooked. So before any exam, make sure you create and share a bunch of different Quizzes with your Friends. Study Tip 7: Brainstorming This is another study technique that is ideal for studying with friends and/or classmates. Brainstorming is a great way to expand every possible idea out of any topic. Just get a bunch of friends together and shoot the breeze, there are no wrong answers when brainstorming – just talk and capture the ideas, you can review afterward. Study Tip 8: Mnemonic Rules Mnemonics are especially useful when memorising lists and sets. Mnemonics rules basically work by associating certain concepts with other concepts that are more familiar to us. There are many different ways to make mnemonics and these can be individual to the person. Study Tip 9: ORGANISE your study One of the most effective study skills is also one of the most often overlooked; this is organising your study. Creating a TIME TABLE gives you goals and a time in which to achieve them. Having a study timetable as you study is greatly motivational Study Tip 10: Drawing Many people find it easier to recall images rather than text that is why they are better able to memorise concepts if they associate them with pictures or drawings.

Alcohol and Mental health :How alcohol affects the brain and the varying mental health side effects that can result from excessive drinking

Masters in Clinical Psychology
Psychologist, Lucknow
Alcohol and Mental health :How alcohol affects the brain and the varying mental health side effects that can result f...

1. Alcohol alters your brain chemistry

The relaxed feeling you can get when you have that first drink is due to the chemical changes alcohol has caused in your brain. For many of us, a drink can help us feel more confident and less anxious. That's because it's starting to depress the part of the brain we associate with inhibition.

But, as you drink more, more of the brain starts to be affected. It doesn't matter what mood you're in to start with, when high levels of alcohol are involved, instead of pleasurable effects increasing, it's possible that a negative emotional response will take over. You could become angry, aggressive, anxious or depressed.

2. Alcohol can actually increase anxiety and stress rather than reduce it

Unfortunately reaching for a drink won't always have the effect you're after.
While a glass of wine after a hard day might help you relax, in the long run, it can contribute to feelings of depression and anxiety and make stress harder to deal with. This is because regular, heavy drinking interferes with neurotransmitters in our brains that are needed for good mental health.

When we drink, we narrow our perception of a situation and don't always respond to all the cues around us. If we're prone to anxiety and notice something that could be interpreted as threatening in the environment, we'll hone in on that and miss the other less threatening or neutral information. For example, we might focus on our partner talking to someone we're jealous of, rather than notice all the other people they've been chatting to that evening.

3. Alcohol depression = a vicious cycle

If you drink heavily and regularly you're likely to develop some symptoms of depression. It's that good old brain chemistry at work again. Regular drinking lowers the levels of serotonin in your brain - a chemical that helps to regulate your mood.

Drinking heavily can also affect your relationships with your partner, family, and friends. It can impact on your performance at work. These issues can also contribute to depression. If you use drink to try and improve your mood or mask your depression, you may be starting a vicious cycle.

4. Alcohol is linked to suicide, self-harm, and psychosis

Alcohol can make people lose their inhibitions and behave impulsively, so it can lead to actions they might not otherwise have taken - including self-harm and suicide. Extreme levels of drinking (such as more than 30 units per day for several weeks) can occasionally cause 'psychosis'. It's a severe mental illness where hallucinations and delusions of persecution develop. Psychotic symptoms can also occur when very heavy drinkers suddenly stop drinking and develop a condition known as 'delirium tremens' - symptoms include body tremors and confusion.

5. Alcohol can damage your memory

Soon after drinking alcohol, your brain processes slow down and your memory can be impaired. After large quantities of alcohol, the brain can stop recording into the 'memory store'. That's why you can wake up the next day with a 'blank' about what you said or did and even where you were. This short-term memory failure or 'black out' doesn’t mean that brain cells have been damaged, but frequent heavy sessions can damage the brain because of alcohol's effect on brain chemistry and processes.

Drinking heavily over a long period of time can also have long-term effects on memory. Even on days when you don't drink any alcohol, recalling what you did yesterday, or even where you have been earlier that day, become difficult.

Hi, Get your check up done. No need to cry, everything is treatable. Increased weight and obesity can lead to low testosterone levels.[Changing your dietary patterns can make a big difference not only to your testosterone levels but to your risk for heart disease and diabetes. Start changing your diet by cutting out processed, packaged, and prepared foods. Eating “whole” foods means cutting out excess sugars, fats, preservatives, etc. Try to incorporate: More fruits and vegetables More fish and skinless poultry while limiting red meat More complex carbohydrates, including whole grains, lentils, beans, and vegetables More nuts and seeds Omega-3 fats are healthy fats found in a variety of foods. These include those found in eggs, algae, fish and mussels, but also plant oils like flaxseed, hemp and walnut oil. Healthy fats actually help to build a healthier body. Lots of water is essential to any healthy diet. In addition to hydrating you, water can also stop you from feeling hungry. Start a strength-training routine. If you have never lifted weights, used resistance bands or used weight machines, hire a personal trainer or physical therapist to teach you the proper form and procedure. If you are very weak, start with resistance bands. This gentle form of strength-training allows you to use a rubber strap to train weak muscles before lifting actual weights. Do this 2 to 3 times per week for the first 3 to 4 weeks. If you have a joint or back problem, you may want to graduate to stronger bands and stick to this form of strength training. You can increase your testosterone levels by up to 20 percent by lifting weights 3 times per week for 11 weeks. Strength training in the evenings can increase testosterone levels in the evening. These effects tend to be brief and smaller the better shape you are in. They can still help. All the best.

Dear lybrate user, welcome to lybrate. You must be able to understand concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. If the task is boring, it is natural that that person will sleep or feel sleepy. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly. Please search internet for" effective learning" techniques. Take care.

Defence services have stringent physical requirement and is physically demanding even for technical jobs like engineers. Defence job also requires family flexibility as you have to keep shifting the entire service period. Dear doctor we have a patient of schizophrenia having auditory hallucinations and is under medication from Aiims Delhi. I have come to know through a scholarly article that increasing estrogen hormone especially estradiol b17 can reduce symptoms substantially. You are requested to advise medicine and the method of increasing the hormone. We will be highly obliged and thankful to you.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Well schizophrenia is a serious psychiatric illness which has lead to lot of research in the treatment. Many vitamin supplements, hormonal therapies and natural ingredients have been tried and have shown positive results but they are only in the preliminary stage. Regarding using oestrogen supplements, the results have not produced similar results in clinical practice and oestrogen supplements have many side effects to tolerate with it too. My kind advice to you is to stop surfing Internet which can mislead you. Believe your psychiatrist who can help you. Important point to note is that schizophrenia as of now is a disorder which can only kept under control and not cured and we have come across many clients with refractory auditory hallucinations even after multiple treatments. Well schizophrenia is a very complex disorder which can be very challenging at times due to the permanent neuronal changes they produce. Few tips to reduce auditory hallucinations are keeping ourself engaged, avoiding being alone and reading books and hearing to favourite music etc. Hope I was helpful. Thank you.

Dear, Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Smoking can affect your mouth, throat, lungs, heart, stomach and brain in many ways. Cancer is one among the potential diseases smoking can cause. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. Nicotine chewing gums too help as an alternative for cigarettes. But still you will need will power. You may consult a physician or deaddiction therapist or a rehabilitation facility for further advice. You can also opt for online deaddiction therapy. Take care.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS

Stammering can be made lesser only and only by Speech therapy. So you should take the help of a speech therapist. Also, I'd suggest you to visit a Psychologist as confidence plays a great role in dealing with this problem. I'd suggest you to speak very slowly, word by word. People may make fun of this but believe me, slowly you'll get better at it. Hope your query is answered. Feel free to ask if you have any doubts. Wishing you good health.
