My problem is my talk. I do not perfectly tell the sentences and my tongue was struggled. please help me.

M.S. Counselling and Psychotherapy
Psychologist, Bangalore
Write down small sentences and read it aloud when alone at home. Keep doing this at least for a month. Also read a few paragraphs from books, magazines and news paper, aloud while alone. It will give you some practice to talk consistently and your language skills will also improve. Try reciting sanskrit shlokas which will train your tongue. You may also consult a speech therapist.

Hi sir/madam. I am 18 years old boy. I am having puberphonia. My voice us not yet deepen, still I don't get a deeper manly, low pitch, masculine voice. Still my voice is at high pitch only. All my friend and boys who r younger to me got deeper low pitch voice. But I am still not. I had already consulted three ENT specialist in my area and they also told PUBERPHONIA and they prescribed me to take SPEECH THERAPY. With their consultation I went to speech therapist for two weeks of speech therapy. But I felt there is no changes in my voice. After speech therapy also my voice is like as before. Kindly prescribe me a speech therapist specialist. Pls sir because I faced lot of problem with this voice. Pls help me sir.

Master of Speech Language Pathology
Speech Therapist, Bangalore
Dear lybrate-user, yes for puberphonia you need to consult a speech pathologist. It is not prescribed by any one. Correcting puberphonia needs consistent practice of some techniques and frequent monitoring by speech therapist. St will help you attain a low pitch voice, maintain it, and also keep the health of your throat and vocal folds. I am not really sure what kind of exercises carried out. I would be able to help you in a better way if you could consult me privately where you can share the voice samples too. Thank you.

Hello, my voice is very low that Every time I talk to someone, I have to repeat my words twice or thrice, what should I should I've to do to get loud and clear voice.

Master of science in audiology, Bachalor in audiology and speech
Speech Therapist, Delhi
Hello Mr. lybrate-user, first it should be diagnosed. There are many reasons to get reduced loudness. Generally our voice loudness and voice depends on length ,mass and tension of vocal cord which is situated in throat. Another thing you have mentioned about clearity, if all the articulator like tongue, teeth etc are fine. You should not have problems in clearity. If any abnormalities are there in articulator structure and function speech can be unclear. Try using open mouth approach when you talk. Or otherwise you can contact speech therapist. Further any queries feel free to connect us.

What is the remedy of stammering problem. Please tell me as soon as possible. Thankyou.

Stammering generally develops in the course of growing up. And is linked somewhat to your self confidence. Try speaking by looking into the mirror. Speak slowly. Create a script before speaking. Exercise deep breathing and say encouraging words to yourself - i'm good, I have qualities. I'm good at doing this believe in yourself.

I often stammer during speaking. What are the reasons behind it and what arr the treatments.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry, MBA (Healthcare)
Psychiatrist, Davanagere
Hi there, stammering is a complex condition which affects individuals in different ways. Therefore it isn't possible to make a general recommendation about the best treatments - different approaches help different people. Speech and language therapy can be available free under the nhs or you can see a therapist privately or take part in a low cost intensive course run by qualified therapists. Where do I start? we do suggest that you try to see a qualified speech and language therapist, at least in the first instance. A therapist who has experience of working with people who stammer will be able to offer you a range of different techniques. From these you can choose the techniques that you find most helpful (this might change over time) and the therapist will support you in the choice that you make. By contrast, people who offer alternative approaches tend to have just one technique which they offer to everyone, and this may not be right for you. Tried? try again. Even if you had therapy when you were younger, and felt that you weren't helped, it is still worth trying again, because therapy may have changed, and you may have changed. Remember - it is worth persevering. It can take time to find the approach that is right for you, but many adults make huge improvements to their speech. You can also get help to feel better about your speech just as it is - for some people, self-acceptance can be just as important as fluent speech. Usually, the two approaches go hand in hand. With any form of therapy, it's no doubt best, having made the decision to try it, to give it your best shot, rather than do it half-heartedly. If, in the end, it doesn't work for you, you can at least be assured that it wasn't for want of trying. All it means is that, at this point of time in your life, it is not the right approach for you. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise! a cure for stammering? we don't provide information about approaches which claim to cure stammering. This isn't because we're defeatist about stammering, but because we believe that the approaches which are most helpful in the long-term require on-going practice of technique to be become effective. For more thoughts on this, and for some general recommendations about questions to ask before paying for private therapy, see is there a cure for stammering? where can I find a qualified speech and language therapist? there are three ways in which you can see a qualified speech and language therapist: under the nhs, by taking part in a course at city lit in london, an adult education centre with a specialist speech and language therapy department, or privately. Finding a qualified speech and language therapist. Other courses and approaches beyond working with a qualified speech and language therapist, there is a wide range of alternative therapies and courses available for adults who stammer. Sometimes it takes determination to find something that is right for you - and it can be difficult to distinguish genuine from spurious help. Alternative approaches clearly help some people, but because stammering is such an individual condition, they are not right for everyone. We suggest you read our article is there a cure for stammering? especially before committing yourself to spending a large amount of money. Two courses run by non-speech therapists and based on'costal breathing' are the mcguire programme and the starfish project. The stammering self-empowerment programme, set by paul brocklehurst phd, runs intensive courses and evening courses, mostly in macclesfield and manchester. The kings speakers in london is a public speaking group particularly for people who stammer, aimed at improving one's communication and leadership skills. Other public speaking groups round the country also welcome people who stammer. Other occasional workshops are shown on our events page. Courses aimed particularly at the workplace include those offered by talkcoach, and some of the courses offered by city lit in london. Electronic fluency devices electronic devices are available on the market which are intended to help people who stammer produce more fluent speech. They mostly use'altered auditory feedback' playing back speech into one's ear with a delay and often at a different pitch. More on electronic fluency devices. Self-help and confidence building the sharing and discussing of a problem with others who stammer can often prove helpful. There may be a self-help group in your area, or there are opportunities for support and discussion over the internet or by telephone. You can come to events such as bsa conferences and open days. There is also a lot of reading matter on stammering available. I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day.

Hello sir / madam from many days in am secreting saliva too much while speaking its just spraying a bit much how can I control?

MDS
Dentist, Lucknow
Many a times increased salivation can be due to the local irritants present on the teeth. Pls get ur teeth cleaned first. Then look for any spacing in ur front teeth, if possible get it filled or orthodontically treated. Chlorhexidine m/w also helps in some patients after scaling process to maintain oral hygiene. Pls let me know if u are relieved by the above mentioned ways.

My 3 years old daughter doesn't speak much. She says words to explain what she wants but she doesn't talk fluently. She is good with her motor skill, body balance. She even tries to trick me. I'm a single parent. My ex husband was violent with me in front of my daughter till she was around 2 years old. Is it possible that violence that my daughter has witnessed has effected her growth or language skill in someway. Also I work long hours each day, I hardly give my daughter 3-4 hrs a day. She is mostly with her maid. Should I seek some psychological treatment for my daughter?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Yes, the divorce and all the violence she has witnessed will have a bearing on this child. Being a girl child, she will also miss her father quite a bit now, and more later. It does not help that you don?t have much time to give her too. These years are most important to her and any way you can spend more time with her will diminish the total impact to a reasonable level, at least. Believe me, this is an investment with good dividends: otherwise you are looking at paying a great price for her and yourself, later. At this age she must talk incessantly, so this break up is certainly impacting her. She is angry and probably very sad. Divorce is always bad for the adults and worse for the kids. You have a responsibility to help her tide over the effects of this huge void in her life. You cannot obviously be father and mother to her, so a male figure around her will somewhat compensate this loss. You could go to a child psychologist both for assessment and some therapy. Don?t try to delay helping her on any front because it is easier to set things right as a preventive measure than as a curative one. She is already in a disturbed state but further negligence will lead to serious situations that at a later time even curative efforts may only nudge the issues and make it very difficult to do real justice.

I'm 23 years old male. I'm unable to pronounce the letters r, re,RU, ir pls help me to find the solutions pls.

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
One of the main reasons for difficulty to pronounce is fear and anxiety. Reduce your speed of speech for now, thus the pronouncing difficulty would decrease and fluency of your speech would become better. When fluency of speech reaches normal, then you gradually increase speed of speech, thus the overall speech can become as original. Because stress and anxiety increases difficulty of speech, you should also do transcendental meditation. How meditation affects health? it has been scientifically proved that meditation not only helps the mind but also body because controlled mind and purification of consciousness leads to better lifestyle and improved habits of food, sleep etc which in turn leads to better overall health. Most diseases have their roots in uncontrolled mind and impure consciousness. So do transcendental meditation by finding and reading iskcon books, either from internet and/or from your nearest iskcon center. Hope this helps,

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Ask a voice coach for breathing and vocal exercises to make your voice more resonant and relaxed. See a speech pathologist or physician for persistent problems such as vocal fatigue or hoarseness. Learn to warm up and rest your voice before and after intense use, such as teaching or coaching. Take care.

I am 19. My voice is heavy and rough .what should I do. I think its a reason of drinking milk daily from years. Help me to get a good voice.

MBBS
General Physician, Malappuram
The third stage of male puberty occurs around age 13 or 14, but frequently as early as 11 or late as 16. Pubic hair begins to grow darker and fuller, and the penis now begins to grow in length. The testicles continue growing, erections become commonplace and the boy gains in height at a rate of over 3 inches (7.6 centimeters) a year. The voice may begin "breaking" or "cracking." This is when the boy's voice suddenly and uncontrollably changes pitch mid-word or sentence, due to the growth of the larynx and the lengthening of the vocal cords. Stage four of male puberty commonly takes place when a boy is around 14 or 15 years old. Hair begins showing up in the armpits and on the face, and pubic hair begins to grow coarse. The boy's voice will even out and become deeper. The stage-four boy can use this deeper voice to yell forcefully at the mirror when he sees his new acne, due to his ever-more-oily skin. He begins to grow taller and even faster, at about 4 inches (10.2 centimeters) a year. The penis now grows thicker and continues to lengthen.

From last 3 4 days am practicing 3 times a day which I never use to do My vocal become hoarse People suggest me that this is natural, voval is making it's position But am afraid for my vocals. I do not wanna break my practice by taking rest I reduced it (if possible) Please suggest.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Guwahati
Vocal practice has beneficial effect if done regularly for a specific time period & in a stable manner. Over practicing may strain your voice & lead to the subsequent ill affects. So rather than sometimes over practicing & sometimes under practicing, continue your practice daily for the same duration of time, in a calm & relaxed state of mind, enjoying your practice at the same time. Also take care of your throat & consult an ENT specialist if the hoarseness persist or continue to increase, who will also advice you regarding how to take proper care of your throat.
