My voice is very bad , harsh and very low and my breathe power is very low please help me suggest me easy ways to overcome it fastly and I want that my voice becomes sweet and soft.

MBBS
General Physician, Cuttack
Hoarseness of voice could be due to chronic laryngitis or polyp in vocal cord. Get your throat examined by ent specialist and follow the advice and treatment. Do warm saline gargling 2-3 times daily. Give voice rest. Take throat lozenges. Avoid smoking, if you smoke.

Overcame Stammering problem please Advise? I am 20 Years Oldd. Problem As 1 Year Old To Continues, please Answer in Telugu Translation plzzz advice.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS

Stammering can be made lesser only and only by speech therapy. So you should take the help of a speech therapist. Also, i'd suggest you to visit a psychologist as confidence plays a great role in dealing with this problem. I'd suggest you to speak very slowly, word by word. People may make fun of this but believe me, slowly you'll get better at it. Hope your query is answered. Feel free to ask if you have any doubts. Wishing you good health.

I am facing problem from 3-4 years of stammering problem. I am a student. I can't read properly.

M.Sc - Applied Psychology, MS - Counselling and Psychotherapy
Psychologist,
Hello lybrate user, I believe every person who stutters is slightly different. From the top, we would all look same but if you dive deeper you would know everyone is different with respect to syllables on which they stutter, frequency, places they might stutter, may stutter while talking to specific people etc. So you need to analyse your stuttering with respect to above points so you can work to reduce it with greater efficiency. Here are the things which is useful: 1. Breathing: this has been already stressed enough by other people. Notice your breathing pattern when you stammer. You will notice that you breath shallow while stammering and try to complete sentence as soon as possible which leads to more stuttering. Taking control of your breathing can do wonders. Breath deep and talk slowly. 2. Substitution: when you make note of syllables/words on which you stammer, you can substitute those with their synonyms on which you don't stutter. Another trick is inserting things like'umm'you know'i feel' etc when you feel that you are about to stammer. 3. Mirror technique: this helped me a lot. Shut the door, stand alone in front of a mirror, start reading any small article/chapter loudly for around 20 mins from a magazine/ newspaper which you haven't read before. When you are done with reading that, look in the mirror and try to talk about it loudly. Try it for 30 days and see if you can feel the difference. 4. Acceptance: accept the fact that there are millions like you. Don't try to hide it or run away from it. Accept it as a part of you and try to live with it. Thank you. Try to consult any speech therapist too.

Hi Tanya, Thanks for writing in. Welcome to the forum. From what you are saying, there appears to be a very strong component of social anxiety. This can be handled with psychotherapy, medicines or both depending upon the exacts nature and severity of the symptoms. Public speaking courses and speech therapy are also likely to help with respect to the specific issue of stammering in public places. But with regard to the several other aspects of this problem, speaking to a mental health expert is a good idea. Take care!

My son 3.3 years old but he is not able to speak clearly. He can say mamma, Papa but not any other word. Kindly suggest me.

MRCT, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Mumbai
Check his hearing-if that is ok expose him to other kids of his age and then speech will automatically develop-sometimes nature has its own ways he will start talking soon -may b sentences with 2-3 words together first and then long sentences.

Dont scold him more often for it. Its a developmental process and if after a year he continues then consult a speech therapist nearby. Make him read.

Dear lybrate-user, if this is her personality trait and she is not having any trouble with such a personality trait, it is better to leave her alone. Introversion is a blessing. You may talk to her regarding this and motivate her. Take care.
